It's not only matching the devices that I like but the fact that all phones since iPhone 3G that I have owned have been black or Grey.

The 10th Anniversary US $1500 Phone from Apple needs to be special and different.

Also the Space Grey Phone looks similar to the Jet Black one I used. Wish it was not so black in color.

It’s your phone.

All that effort to remove scratches every month for something that is not as important as keeping your phone mint. Remember, polishing takes away something off your phone!!

Weigh the facts very well. Is it reallt worth it? Go with the grey and just leave it alone.

Will make my decision after talking to the store. If I can have a 3M transparent film around the frame then I will surely get the silver model and a Dbrands skin for the back.

If I can't get a transparent film for the frame then I will have to settle for the space Gray model. Another black / grey phone to use.

Skins can also introduce things that will prompt you to change them ocassionaly. There are also elements that can get stuck under the skin that when applied, can leave permanent marks on the silver. The band will be subjected to frequent touching (even with a case) so it can peel! Believe me, this happened to me many times!

Also, stop with the “I’ve been using black/space grey/space black” gadgets all my life and I just want something different” mentality. It will bite you at the end, take my word for it. Go with what you’ve always picked.

Anyone know Apple's clause for scratches on the silver model under Apple Care warranty and replacements?

They don’t cover scratches under regular warranty. Think about it, if everyone else brings in their scratched silver AppleWatches for replacement, Apple might as well discontinue the product...never gonna happen. Applecare+ covers accidental damage (or your small scratches that go along with the damage) at a cost.

Sorry to sound like your parent but stop complicating your life with this.

Here’s something visual to help you, I hope:

Silver:
1. Will match my AppleWatch
2. Looks more noticeable and prettier than the black
3. I want something different

Black/Grey:
1. Really? Will you be flashing them together?
2. Small scratching is you enemy...needs to be pampered regurlarly
3. In your quest to have something different, other problems are introduced making you regret your selection

I am wondering why Apple doesnt put demo phones in stores before preorders, so people who are investing $1500 on a phone can make a better decision.

In Hong Kong we are not allowed to return or cancel orders like in the US. We don't even get 1 day return policy.

Space gray will show more fingerprints on the glass, and scratches on the SS band will be permanent due to the PVD coating. While the silver will show very minimal finger grease and the scratches in the SS band can be easily buffed out.

Seriously?:

1. Are you gonna be throwing your phone around, get it banged up and complain the black band scratched?
2. Enough with the fingerprint complaints already. Can’t you wipe your phone?
3. Buffing out the silver band on the X (or the AppleWatch) is removing a coating of it every single time! Excess polish creme can also affect the glass front and back of the watch if not being careful. And all that extra effort to maintain a mint look on your phone. The black band doesn’t require this much attention.

So you ordered the grey model?

I have ordered both but not yet decided which to use.

4 more days and we will soon find out which phone scratches easily, shows more fingerprints and looks less appealing.

So Space Gray and Silver both can get scratched, but PVD coating on Space Gray prevents/protects scratches more than the Silver, which has no such protection. If the same method that scratches the Space Gray scratches the Silver, the silver would look worse since it has no protection at all.

Sounds like Space Gray will be better for daily use. Having to change films every other month, or anything like a hassle.

Apple's marketing strength is so strong that they can make us pre order a phone for $1500 without actually testing it. Other companies have demo units at stores for US to test before preorders.

We still go ahead and that makes Apple stronger the other companies.

They have also earned great a reputation over the years.

The silver can be fixed, the space grey cannot be fixed, once you scratch it that it is, you will see that scratch forever.

I don't see what you mean when you say it can be "fixed". I have scratches on my current Silver iPhone and I can't just "fix" it.

What is mean't by that is that you can use polish that will remove scratches on the band around the phone. You cannot fix dents, but you can use the polish and remove most scratches and make the sides look new again. This is not a difficult process. On the space grey, once the band around the phone gets a scratch it is permanent just like scratching the side of your iphone 6,7,8 etc.

I think you have to weigh what you prefer, a phone that easily get scratches that you could polish (depending on the severity of it)... or a phone that is more impervious to scratches because of a protective coating. I think under normal conditions, I would prefer to have a phone that generally doesn't get scratches thanks to the added protection it has.

Which silver iPhone? IPhone the first generation or the iPhone 4/4s/5 Or iPhone 6/6s/7?

Not the same frames on all models.

iPhone 6. I thought I had the Space Gray, but realized after taking it out of the case that I haven't done in years, it's silver. The edges have both minor scratches and dents.

I feel those who are getting the phones on launch day will either be glad or disappointed with their choice.

for me I think this year I am choosing the silver. I have an apple watch which matches and the phone looks a little better in silver. I have a space grey coming as well on launch but probably not keeping that one. The phone will be in case most of time so honestly it doesn't matter much.

Which case will you be using?

Are people really worried that they will polish the shiny steel away? The polish removes microns of the finish. I think it would take a very very very long time to do permanent damage to the finish by polishing. I have a stainless steel watch that has a near mirror finish. I have polished every couple of months for nearly the last 20 years....still looks like new. I can safely say that nobody will be keeping their iPhone X in daily use for the next 20 years.
