Binged Shōgun over the weekend, after recently reading the book.
It was good. Though not fantastic, so in a way I was slightly disappointed.
This is not because they had omitted and/or changed (quite) a lot from the book, that's to be expected (although - without spoiling too much - the main love story from the book was more or less axed, making the climax a bit
weird in the series); it was just more a slight/vague "feeling" I had that this could've been better.
Two specific, but minor annoyances, though:
* Cosmo Jarvis - playing John Blackthorne - made an acting decision to sound overly dramatic whenever he spoke (sounding like an English anime character).
* The outdoor exterior shots - especially in and around Ajiro that was clearly not shot in Japan and looked much more like the Canadian coastline (where it was actually shot, so not 100% unnatural).
Still looking forward to the next season though (even if it's a bit weird that they'll follow the historic events, but with Clavell's made up names for all the characters).
