1000 Meisterwerke (1000 Masterpieces) was a West German art series. It followed the highly successful British series 100 Great Paintings. From 1981 through 1994, the West German broadcaster WDR produced the series (originally aired from 1980 and named 100 Meisterwerke aus den großen Museen der Welt; "100 Masterworks from the Great Museums of the World"), which was broadcast by ARD, ORF and BR. In each of the 10-minute broadcasts, a single painting was presented and analyzed by an art historian. The Sunday evening broadcasts had five million viewers.

In most episodes, Ross taught techniques for landscape oil painting, completing a painting in each session. Occasionally, episodes featured a guest artist who would demonstrate a different painting technique. The program followed the same format as its predecessor from 1974 to 1982, The Magic of Oil Painting, which had been hosted by Ross's mentor Bill Alexander. In 2024, the series was revived with Nicholas Hankins as host, initially using unused paintings Ross had completed before his death.

The best thing is that here in Germany this broadcast is not dubbed. So we hear the English original.

I guess that my neighbour Mrs. F. got inspired by this series. Like a former schoolmate because she posted a video about Bob Ross on Facebook 10 years ago.

Sorry folks, I eff'd up. Wanted to post below on the "current" TV series thread, but my search dug up a moldie oldie (similar thing happened when I first joined this forum and there were so many separate music threads). Mods please delete my other post if possible.

Not Netflix, but PBS, so it may be available to most: Once Upon a Time in Space.
I had set my EweTubeTV to record the show, and just watched the first episode (and only two are out, must be a new show). Brief prelude about the start of the US Space program, but it looks like the main subject is the Space Shuttle program, and it concentrates less on the tech aspects and more on the race/sex/skillset/political aspects of things (the US astronauts up to that point were white, male, AF pilots). Lots of interviews with the old astronauts, their wives and children, and lots of 8mm home video footage. The first episode ended with the Challenger disaster.

This is especially interesting to me as I was hired two years later by Thiokol, the builder of the Space Shuttle's boosters (whose segment joint design caused the explosion). Two years after that I went back to USAF engineering, but was very thankful for my couple years working with NASA and for Thiokol.

Watched The Queen's Gambit again, a most excellent show...!

Caught the first ep of “Lucky” last night, Anya Taylor-Joy’s current major show after “The Queen’s Gambit.” Certainly action-packed and Anya is very easy on the eyes. More importantly, she’s a good actor for the role and there’s no question this is her show. She’s the first-listed in the cast of course but also first-listed as executive producer.
