The MyWi "No Rock" is through AppSidy. When you visit the AppSidy website, it tells you that their apps are now available only through RYP.

Any other solutions?

Ugh! This Appsidy (RockYourPhone) thing is getting ugly. If you don't want Rock installed on your phone, I suppose you could install RockApp, then (buy) and install MyWi, uninstall both and then install the No Rock version. If you have a license online for MyWi it will be available when you install the No Rock version.

Alternatively, can't you create an online (web) account with RockYourPhone and buy the app there, then apply that license to your No Rock version of MyWi? I would think that would work.

Mario (Appsidy/Rock) has really got people jumpy lately!

I won't have Rock on my phone for any reason after it caused me to need a restore (the only time I've had to do that since I've had my phone). I did not even have any intention of installing Rock, but it installed along with MiWi back in the old days before I knew to be on the lookout for such things.

What's wrong with Rock? Rock uses a buggy proprietary fork of Mobile Substrate which is well known to cause conflicts. Besides, the requirement that you install Rock to use any app from their store (even ones that don't rely on Rock Extensions) is ridiculous. I won't touch it.

Yes you can because I did.

I don't disagree with you for one second! Mario says I'm crazy, but I had all kinds of MS conflicts with Rock installed. That being said, I think my option 2 should be explored. By a license via their website and then install the No Rock version. When I installed No Rock my license from the RockApp days was available and it was a smooth install.

I hope there is a way around Rock. They made my life hell for months until I let go!

I would remain very cautious in this endeavor. Thousands of people are activating MyWi and running their iPads and many of those are not being conservative.

AT&T is going to start monitoring data usage on iPhones pretty quickly and will note the big changes made from normal usage over the period of ownership and now they see massive changes. If anyone thinks AT&T is going to not notice excessive usage and not charge, or change things, then your fooling yourselves.

Be very very careful people, soon these threads will be filled with...AT&T did this...I had to pay xxx dollars for over usage and so much more. Mark my words, with all of this activity over the last two days, its coming!

Marking your words but AT&T has an enforceable contract with me. By that they agree to give me unlimited data access with a 5GB soft cap. If AT&T were to start charging me before I even reached that soft cap they would find themselves up a creek. Now, if I exceed the 5GB soft cap then it can be argued that I pay for unlimited use, my guess is I would not get real far. Ergo, I stay below 5GB and they can't do a damn thing.

Exactly!

Moreover, this has to come down to customer care. Meaning, these days I couldn't care less about the iPhone as much as I did before. If they were to find a bona fide reason to cancel my service I'd find another carrier. It's really simple to me.

And BTW, those who are looking for MyWi, I went to the Rock website, registered (2 weeks ago) got my free 10-day trial, then downloaded the MyWi with Rock. I then tried to download mywi without rock through the cydia store, it uninstalled mywi with rock and installed mywi without rock. My purchase was made on an actual website (rock's website actually) and the mywi with no rock was downloaded via Appsidy. On my phone I had to log into Appsidy via my rock ID. I could also log in via facebook or google (their choices).

I have been using Rock for 9 months now and not had one issue that you two are reporting. Rock has not caused my iPhone 3GS to crash yet. I have purchased MyWi through Rock originally and also G.O.C. Pro Theme and both have functioned perfectly without error. Battery life last all day long and I charge up every night while I sleep.

I was forced to restore because of Lockinfo which caused a major crash after the last update. I upgraded to 3.1.3, jailbroke with Spirit yesterday and installed MyWi (Rock) version yesterday from Cydia. Went back to Rock and uploaded my Theme again and have been "Rockin" since.

IMO Rock is NOT the problem since he did a major upgrade/fix about 6 weeks ago. Rock also maintains all of my Cydia/Rock Apps and auto reinstalled them after I logged in yesterday. Very simple, fast and easy without any headaches or problems.

Tried to DL MyWi (No Rock) from Cydia. Got a error message saying......The latest Cydia update is preventing us from identifying your device. We are working hard on resolving this.

Did I do something wrong? Have a 3G

Nope. You're just suffering with the rest of us until server traffic quiets down again.

Steve, I think it is better if you connect via WiFi to do this rather than 3G. I realize that you did not say you were connecting via 3G, only that you had one, but if you were... My 2 cents.

I was able to do all of this (jail brake + MyWi) last night and managed to get through it. There were several timeout errors but when I did connect it went through quickly over my FIOS WiFi.

Is this really a traffic problem?

Also - first time Cydia user here wanting to get the MyWi. Once this error message goes away, will I be purchasing MyWi directly through Cydia on my phone?

Thanks in advance.

Another first time iPhone 3GS JB here. I just get HTTP errors when I try to download MyWi (no Rock), so assume the servers are still being hammered.

I gave up on waiting for that issue to resolve and I downloaded the Rock version, in spite of some posts saying having installed Rock caused instability. Was using it all last night and have noticed no side effects (crossing my fingers). You also get a 10 day trial license as opposed to No Rock.

When my trial expires, I'll see if the server issues have been resolved and I'll remove Rock for the No Rock version.

Many people have had no issues with Rock, unfortunately I wasn't one of those. You'll probably be fine.

I did the same thing last night. Installed fine and had it up and running in less than 5 minutes. So far, so good with iPhone to ipad wifi share here in my faculty lounge. No problems for me with RYP version.

I have MyWi working over WiFi and via USB tethering, been doing this for months. Decided to try BT. Even though my Win7 Pro netbook connects to the iPhone over bluetooth, no Internet connection. Any ideas?

EDIT: BT pairing works fine with OSX 10.6.3. It's an issue with Win7 Pro. :(
