I am one of those that have never had a problem with Rock. When I first installed it, I had the same issue stated above and that was about 3-4 months ago. It would crash and restart in safe mode.

I did some experimenting and started removing Cydia/Rock Apps and would let it run a week without the app and see if that had any results.

"MY" culprit after this experiment was Gruppled Lockinfo that was causing the crash and restart in safe mode. Since removing Gruppled Lockinfo, I have not had one single crash so can safely say that Rock has NOT caused any issues in MY iPhone.

I've been led to believe that there're other versions available, from different 'sources', but I'm not at liberty to disclose that information here.

Many people have had no issues with Rock, unfortunately I wasn't one of those. You'll probably be fine.

Installed MyWi via Rock same night spirit jailbreak was released as I wasn't having any luck through Cydia--no issues whatsoever, had worked great and as previously stated, you get a nice 10 day free trial. I'll definitely be purchasing this app--best $10 spent on any app, by far.

I got MyWi (No Rock) through Cydia yesterday. I only tested it out for a few mins but it worked great! Very simple and easy to use.

This was my first purchase through Cydia and it was pretty simple.
I was just a little worried, though. My information is secure, right?

So it looks like we are out of luck on the No Rock version until May 9. According to the latest message on the MyWi No Rock page in Cydia.

I, like many others, just jailbroke for the first time with Spirit this week. I was tired of waiting for the MyWi no rock so I installed the rock version. As soon as I start the app, it crashes before I'm even able to create a RockID...and this has happened multiple times. I have not been able to get through the signup process after several tries. The phone isn't crashing, just the MyWi app. Everything else on the phone seems to be fine. I saw the posts above about the phone crashing, but my problem seems to be the MyWi app specifically.

Anyone else having this problem?

I have a 3Gs with 3.1.3.

I experienced the same thing. I did a hard re-start of my iPhone and eventually I was able to login to Rock and get it running. It may have crashed a couple more times, but eventually worked. It's been stable since.

Thanks I will give this a try!

Update: After a couple of hard restarts, I was able to setup a RockID and get the app running. I have had one or two more crashes of MyWi but things seem much more stable now.

Went to RockYourPhone site (on computer) and registered, signed up for 10 day MyWi trial.
Used Cydia to install RockApp, signed in, used RockApp to get MyWi trial
Tried it out (wireless and USB) and decided to buy it.
Used RockApp to buy license thru Paypal
Used Cydia to go to MiWi (No Rock) and downloaded myWi again via verified license.
Removed RockApp and Rock Extensions leaving MyWi only.

If the MyWi NoRock site was working correctly it would have been alot easier.

Thanks for the step-by-step. I think I'll give it a try. As long as I can end up with the No Rock version, that's all I really care about...even if it's a little painful getting there. ;)

So far it's worked for me. Had one SadMac crash but just restarted. All good so far.

As far as the trial you could skip that, but I wanted to test it out on MacBook before buying it.

Yeah - I'm thinking about skipping the trial. I know I'm going to end up buying it anyway. I do like that it will work with my MBP as well. Cool!

Thanks for the help.

I still haven't been able to download the no rock version. I have tried to download it with the rock version installed, and with them uninstalled. Although i haven't tried on wifi (at work, going to have to wait until morning).

Did you buy the license first. In my experiments at getting MyWi without RockApp, the license must be on your phone first.

So My Wi (no rock) is still unavailable. Is this ever going to be back? I really don't want to install Rock...

I was in the same boat as you, I didn't want to install Rock either after reading all of the horror stories. I went ahead and did it anyway to get MyWi, fully expecting my phone to explode and send shrapnel flying across the room upon installation. To my surprise and dismay (I put on my motorcycle helmet and leathers for the installation, better safe than sorry, but not necessary) everything went fine. Followed the steps from dhlizard and everything worked out great.

:D

I've tried this method previously, or something similar, and I remember I couldn't remove Rock extensions without also removing mywi

edit: is there a way to just enable native tethering without a third party app? I remember doing this on 3.1.2 with a hex editor and editing CommCenter but I can't find out if this still works.
