32 GB iPhone all the way.

Mind if I ask which part of music syncing you're having trouble with? Not trying to be a smartass, but I find iTunes' music syncing options to be plentiful and excellent.

When your music collection is less than the capacity of your iPod you can set itunes to automatically sync all songs. So one simply needs to attach their ipod to their computer after updating their library and itunes does its magic.

When your ipod's capacity is less than your library obviously this is not an option. So the next best thing to do is check and uncheck content, as far as syncing goes this works perfectly, but it creates another problem. When playing music in itunes, if you are playing an unchecked item, when it finishes, itunes will jump to the next checked item, so you can't even listen to an unchecked album. I did create a playlist called "iPhone" so that i can have my entire library checked, but I don't like having the playlist cluttering my itunes.

2. How is syncing a pain in the ass. That is just ridiculous logic when you sync the iPhone and iPod Touch exactly the same way.

3. You said that you never use your iPhone as a an iPod in point number 2. Now you say is it worth giving up the features which I quote "(all of which I use)" Stating that term like that implies that you use the features reasonably regularly. Again you are making no sensical argument.

2 see other post.

3 Fair enough, I'll clarify. Relative to a dedicated mp3 player I do not use my iPhone's music playing capabilities that much. However, when I do use it to listen to music I find that I do use those other features most of the time.

iPhone 32Gb

For my iPhone, I really only want music, music videos...maybe a TV show or two, a movie.

32Gb fits that perfectly. 64Gb is nice, but I'll use the phone and text part more.

Manually manage music.

Hey mariokarter,

I think you're making this harder on yourself than you need to. Checking and un-checking songs is certainly a pain, but you don't have to manage your music like that.

I'm in a similar situation, with a 30gb iPod and a 60gb music collection. The way I roll is to have only certain smart playlists sync to the iPod. These include:

- 3+ Stars
- Must Have Artists ("artist" contains "___")
- Must Have Albums ("album" contains "____")
- Unrated Random (limited to 4000 songs)

That way, I always have the music I always want, plus a whole bevy of songs in case I feel like playing my whole library on random. The unrated random playlist refreshes everytime I sync my iPod. Also, I never have to worry about checking and unchecking songs.

This may not work best for you, but it's worked out pretty well for me. Hope this helps.

As for the general question you asked at the beginning, I'd like the 64BG touch. I have no desire to pay $20 / mo for the internet. Though, if I could do a pay-as-you-go data plan, and only add it to the iPhone for a particular period (say, on vacation), then I would definitely get the iPhone.

Cheers,
DCBass

thanks for the replies guys. I'll likely end up with the touch, the music syncing thing just bugs me I suppose.

Nobody can answer about about iPhone headphones working with a touch though???

DCBass answered your music syncing question perfectly. It's all about playlists, especially smart ones. For me, it's *better* than syncing my whole library - after a few minutes of playlist-setting, I can now shuffle all the music on my iPhone and not run into audiobooks, long classical pieces, stand-up comedy, etc.

The headphone button will unfortunately have no effect on an iPod touch.

also one more reason why im hesitant to jump for the touch is it doesn't come with a dock and wall charger right? Just the usb cable.

...no ipod comes with a dock or wall charger. (first time buyer id assume?)

My 40 GB 4G iPod came with both.
Granted, that was a few years ago.

And to answer the question, I have absolutely no interest in the iPod touch, so the answer is easy for me.

I'd take an 8GB iPhone over a 128GB iPod touch.

oh sry about that, i should have clarified, no current generations come with a dock or wall charger.

Thank you.

ok, whatever, I'll extend my statement to "I'm hesitant to jump for any ipod because they don't come with the wall charger or dock". I mean to getting comparable accesories to make a touch on par with a iPhone costs another 80 bucks (30 and 50)(granted the dock is universal and has a remote though i suppose).

And like someone just pointed out 4th gen ipods did....

reading how the 32GB might be $699, I don't know if I will fork out that kind of money for it. I might stick with the 16GB, unless the prices are wrong.

Thank you.

I agree. When Apple stopped including the wall charger and other accessories (starting with the 5th gen I believe), I thought that was a weak move. I don't expect them to throw in a universal dock and component cables... but at least include the wall charger.

Of course, I bought a 5th gen anyway , but we had it good with the old iPods... My 2nd Gen iPod came with a firewire cable, wall charger, belt clip case, and a remote! Perhaps we should be thankful they even include the earbuds...

Where'd you read this?? $700 for a damn phone? That means the 16 gig would be $600, and if they release an 8 gig, $500. That's ri-damn-diculous. I can see $500 for the higher-end model, then $400 for the middle range, and $300 for the low, but who the hell do they expect to shell out $300 short of $1,000 for a fancy phone?

It was listed on Page 2 as $500 for 16GB and $700 for 32GB.

Yeah my 4th gen came with a usb cable, firewire cable, and wall charger. See now that everyone is addicted to ipods apple can get away with out including the accesories. Thats what is good about the iphone though, its a phone so they have to include the wall charger. The earbuds will never go though its part pf apple's image.

64 ipod touch because ill never want to pay the horrific iphone bill and i have alot of movies

personally i would go for the iphone. the ipod touch always seemed like a poor mans iphone. however for my entire music collection i refuse to use itunes anyway. takes to much time and looks ugly with out art.

but you use ipods? i thought for most people ipods and itunes go hand in hand. i find album art is displayed quite nicely in itunes. you could also use an iphone sim free. hell if it gets subsidized it might even be the same price.

iphone hands down.

Honestly, I don't really care for the ipod touch much. It's too 'glitzy' for just a music player, and the classic has a much better design for its purpose PLUS allows much more memory. the driving factor for me on the iphone is it's all-in-one factor. the touch doesn't have the phone, camera, or internet access (while away from a hot spot). It's just a silly concept.

32gb is plenty of memory anyways. I mean what is that like 8,000 songs? Why would you ever need more than 8,000 songs at your fingertips?
