Isn't there a way you can check the S/N for the week of production or something?

OP - can you post those 2 or 3 digits to see if it was much later than the first few runs?

Thx

Now you can't believe everything that comes out of Apple... no matter how obvious of a problem it may be.

You are 100% correct. I've been an Apple customer, and enthusiast for many years. It's how Apple operates. I'm a seasoned hi-tech professional, Apple is the most secretive company I know of.

What were the questions and what was your issues you told them about the phone? I heard they won't do an exchange if it reception issue.

As I posted here many times, my issue would happen without me even touching the phone. It wasn't a corner of death issue. I explained that to the genius bar guy but it was also important to tell him I tried everything customer service told me to like restoring the phone first. After that it was fast.

The key indicator apparently is 2 and 5 as the 4th and 5th digit of the s/n. Or so I heard. It was true for me but I don't know if that's just conjecture.

That doesn't make sense.

They said it was a software issue.

No, they said there is a software issue causing bars to display incorrectly. As so many here pointed out repeatedly, they did not mention reception issues. The smart people (represented by the OP and others).obviously figured out they had a different issue and worked to resolve it. The dumb people ranted about the release in a 2k + post thread.

Actually just checked my wife's iPhone and she has the same digits but no problem. Who knows?

Mine is 23. Oh well. I have the problem only if I squeeze real hard. But if there really is a fixed version, there is no harm in seeing if I can get a replacement phone.

All this poll proves is that 16K people clicked on these buttons.

That's why they call it a poll. I suppose you're suggesting that 16k people, just . . . made it up? Just so we're clear on your position, I mean.

Also, are you denying the base issue here as well?

What if you bought from AT&T, I assume you have to exchange at AT&T?

Not at all, Apple still holds the warranty. I exchanged my early AT&T preorder unit with a new one this weekend from the Apple Store. It took some doing and they tried getting out of it claiming no stock. Then, I told them I called ahead to make sure they had stock and gave them the name of the person that told me they did. I had to persuade a manager this as well and all of a sudden they come out with one claiming they just got more in. I suppose that could all be the truth but I just don't think they wanted to exchange it.

In the end, I too can report the new phone is performing much better than the old one. Night and day difference, I am completely satisfied with this phone now.

You can avoid all of the hassle of trying go talk the "Geniuses" into exchanging your phone by simply doing a return for full refund and waiting 72 hours for eligibility to reset. Plus your 30 days will start over.

Are you saying that week 25 is good or bad?

I have week 25 that I got on launch day, and it has the antenna problem.

It's not terrible, but if I hold it long enough it will drop.

If you don’t understand what I said, explaining further won’t help.

I understood your inference just fine. I'm questioning its veracity.

Does that not happen often to you?

Just because you wave your hand at some inconvenient evidence, doesn't mean it actually literally goes away - I assume you realize this on some logical level despite any possible predisposition to ignore the issues raging around you on this forum.

Again, as I said before, but it apparently bears repeating - the sky may not be falling, but I don't see the point in pretending the issues don't exist.

Absolutely agree on that being the easiest way to get around these so called Genius' JoJoCal, especially on the 30 day reset. In my situation it did not seem if that was an option though. AT&T had no replacement stock and returning it and then re-buying at Apple also put me behind the 8 ball on availability issues for new retail phones. Also, I did like the idea of getting a 'black box' phone in hopes they were known good units. It seemed so many had luck on here with them being good units.

It did concern me to see them try to wiggle out of it. I just kept my cool, played very nice and respectable the whole way through and that helped I think. I also never mentioned reception issues at all as I felt that was going to get me nowhere. I blamed an intermittent issue with the speakerphone turning itself on as my main issues. In truth, my main issues were bad reception and very poor 3G data, also it would take 30-45 seconds to connect a call even with 5 bars, on EVERY call I made. All of the previous issues do not exist for the new one at all.

Whichever way you choose to go about it, I do think there is merit to exchanging for a new unit if you are having some of these issues.

Damn...this is really making me want to do this. My phone is good, but does drop calls if the seam is held for long enough. Also I get bad enough reception in my house that it's crucial I hold it perfectly to avoid dropped calls when at home. I think one easy way to convince the Geniuses to exchange your phone is to run the speedtest app holding the phone the "right" way and then again holding it the "wrong" way. I just tested it right now, and when I put my phone on the desk without touching it, I get a download speed of 516 kb/s download and 359 kb/s upload. When touching the seam, the test cant even finish because all 3G reception dies. I actually got it to go to "searching" and EDGE while doing this today, for the first time.

What sucks is I just got an invisibleshield for this phone, hopefully the Zagg kiosk will be cool with replacing it for my new phone.

When you get an exchange from the genius bar, do you have to bring back everything (charger, headphones, etc.) or is the phone the only thing replaced? Just curious...

This would be a good way of convincing a logical person that there is a problem, but the Apple employees can't go on logic right now. They're being told not to exchange any phones for antenna issues. I think you're better off doing what the OP did and finding other problems to complain about.

I really think bringing up the antenna issues is going to be a dead end for you.

This is what I plan on doing except I didn't realize there was a 72 hour hold. The thing is that im on a wait list so I dont know when I will get the call to pick up another iPhone and my current iPhone is the only phone I have right now. Do you think it would work to just hold on to my current iPhone, then when I get the call, just add a new line for the new iPhone and then cancel the new line the next day and return the old iPhone?

I don't know what else I could bring up though. The phone otherwise is fine. There's a dead obvious problem with my phone's antenna, but everything else is perfect.

There is no scientific methodology for that poll, there is likely no way to prevent people from overvoting, and there is no way to know if anyone who voted even had an iPhone 4.

For any form or purpose it was absolutely worthwhile.

However if you want to claim 16k people out of 2 million had some form of problem with their iphone, go for it. That still does not support the idea that there was some sort of design flaw.

The same thing happened to me. I got the genius to swap out my phone and the new one is just fine. I was having dropped call issues even though I was holding the phone with two fingers. I finally tried dialing it while it sat on a table. Still had reception problems, so it couldn't be fingers on antenna.

Reception was lousy in many places where I could previously use my older iPhone.

I'm glad I got it resolved because I couldn't imagine making business calls to clients with such an unreliable connection. The phone wouldn't look bad, I would look bad.
