I'm a fan of Laphroaig personally. I do drink American bourbon too - Jack Daniels - for the cheaper option being a student :)

Whyte and Mackay come to the rescue again! lol I have some of their standard stuff, some of the 13 year old and some of the 30!

I'm missing 19 and 22 :( but I don't know where to get it! :D

My favorite 2, depending on mood...

Nice 15 year old Bruichladdich or a good single barrel Jack Daniels.

greatly different flavors.. its very different but both can be likeable! its as different as powerpc and intel

How is scotch, bourbon, and whiskey different?

Basically, it's how they are legally defined and where they are made. Scotch and bourbon are types of whisk(e)y.

Basically: Scotch must be distilled in Scotland, made of only water and malted barley (and a few other legally defined ingredients), aged at least 3 years, and at least 40% alcohol.

Bourbon: Must be produced in the US, between 40-80% alcohol, made from at least 51% corn, and aged in oak barrels.

Then, of course, you have Irish whiskey, Canadian whiskey, Japanese whiskey, etc.

Yeah, I probably should have added that. From Wikipedia, according to The Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009:

Under the legislation, Scotch Whisky means whisky:

* which has been produced at a distillery in Scotland from water and malted barley (to which only whole grains of other cereals may be added) all of which have been:
o processed at that distillery into a mash;
o converted at that distillery to a fermentable substrate only by endogenous enzyme systems; and
o fermented at that distillery only by the addition of yeast

Basically, single malt is made with only water and malted barley at a single distillery. You can also have a single grain, which is a whisky made with malted barley and other grains at a single distillery. Blended malt/grain would be a blend of whisky from different distilleries.

Just finished the last of my Laphroaig. Back to Lagavulin now, sadly Scotch is taxed here like crazy, so can't have my Lagavulins as often as I would like.

Thinking of picking up the 94' Distillers Edition along with the 16YO, has anyone tried the DE, is it worth picking up?

Believe me, going to Scotland and Ireland is on my bucket list. As I have said before, Scotch whisky isn't my favorite, but I would still love to do one of those whisky tasting tours of Scotland. I also want to visit St. James Gate in Dublin and the Jameson distillery. :)

I study in Scotland currently - I'd recommend it for visiting! I went to the Whisky tourist museum/modern tour thing in Edinburgh and would recommend it. It's like a tiny theme park ride inside!
