I am ready and willing to buy today a Mac Midi.

DVI and HDMI out
New NVIDIA chipset
Separate Toslink/Analog support (yes, separate!)
2 Firewire 400 (at least)
Ethernet 100/1000
Upgradeable components (like the new MBPs)
4 USB slots in back and 1 in front
Small LCD for status info.
MagSafe power
WiFi and Bluetooth
Top load iPod Dock
SD Card slot

Separate Toslink/Analog support will not happen.

USB port in the front will not happen.

Components were always upgradable with the right tools.

I too am looking forward to a Mac mini with the integrated 9400M. It would make the most perfect media center / downloader box on the market.

So there is some hope that the Mini might see a bump. It wouldn't need much just the same specs the new Alu MB although the the white MB still around I guess that isn't going to happen.

I am essentially waiting on an update as I would dearly love to purchase two of them to replace aging PCs which would also switch their users over and in the long run they would buy further Apple computers. It really is the idea starter mac, especially for those who don't need the world's fastest PC.

If they upgrade it to the current macbook - it's still a huge update

So the big question to me is whether the Macbook signals the death of Firewire across Apple's low end computers. I'm loving the mini I got 6 weeks ago as my main desktop/server, but eventually I want another one for the home theater. FW is still a must, as I have too many current devices that use it.

If the rumored new one (assuming it really exists) retains Firewire, I can afford to wait; I'll upgrade at my leisure and move the current one out to the family room at that time. If FW is gone, then I'll have to make a quick decision on whether to grab an old refurb before they're gone. Might have an unexpected Christmas present for myself in that case!

The Mac Mini and Macbook has had the same specs (when actually updated ... mac mini)

The iMac and the MacBook Pros have had the same specs

Unfortunately if the mini gets updated (I'm not holding my breath) it will not have firewire and iMac will have 1 Firewire 800

iMacs will come with mini displayport i reckon, seeing as Apple seem set on doing that

Nvidia chipset, I'm hoping for discrete and dedicated gpu, like on the MBP

Probably a speed bump, I was hoping for quadcore

Mac Mini?
Mini Displayport, maybe firewire (probably 400 or backwards compatible 800)
Nvidia chipset
standard superdrive, larger memory capacity

Why would you want magsafe for a mac mini - do your desktops usually get knocked down? what will happen - will the invisible rechargeacble battery take over and you can just plug it back up?

Ethernet 10/100/1000

you won't get 1 firewire - and a usb would be ugly in the front

Steve Jobs said why there will be no HDMI and it will have mini display port, not dvi

It will not have a top load ipod dock (although thats a great idea for the TV) sd card slot? seriousely?

Lastly the mac mii cannot hold the same specs as the mbp, there's no room - have you ever looked inside?

What I want:

2.0GHz or 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo models
NVIDIA 9400M GPU
160GB or 250GB hard drives (user upgradable)
2GB RAM (user upgradable)
3xUSB and FireWire 800

Apple typically issues updates on Tuesdays, but has had an occasional Monday [...]

Remember... November 11th is Veteran's Day (US) or Remeberance Day (Everywhere Else which celebrates 11/11), and I don't their PR department is in that day :p

So they have the choice of Monday, Wednesday or wait a week. Seems reasonable to assume a PR push of a new product on Monday.

Cheers,

This has been the most realistic specs I've seen thus far. I'm most concerned about the future of FireWire and really hope the Mini still has it.

I might buy a mini if it has Firewire. It's a conundrum for Apple, because the minis have usually been last years' iBook / MacBook, but if they do that this time, the mini will be better served than the current MacBook for connectivity.

I'd guess they'll cripple it, because that seems to be their thing lately.

It is only one model in their line that has dropped FireWire ... To assume that they will do that with everything is reduculus

there seems to be little info on this alleged release therefore i predict nothing until macworld

If the iMac doesn't get a visual change, it may just be a press release, and website update.

There doesn't need to be a media event for every little thing Apple does.

The Apple Store has been down over an hour now. Perhaps they're relesing new ones for Saturday....
