Regarding any Mini update. The Mini has been so neglected in the last 2 years I think i'll only believe they are going to update it when I see one on the Apple store.

Perhaps the 24 inch models could have the Core i7, the desktop version (Bloomfield). The release of these chips is in that week. That would be amazing.

I want an iMac to complement my Macbook Pro. I like a larger screen for my graphics work as a student. The iMac has had the same form factor for a while now (not that it's a bad thing), but change would be good.

I more or less agree with you. I bet 2.0 or 2.2 but I think they'll go with the nVidia Graphics to be consistent across all their new computers (except for the old White MacBook). They'll keep things to a minimum (1 Gig RAM, 80 Gig HD) to start to keep the $599 entry price. Need to with the new graphics chipset.

Sorry, but the hardware neved had that price... the hardware of the current Mac mini, that Apple sells (let's say, the 1,83 GHz model) you can get today for the max. half price, that Apple wants for it (except the logicboard).

As you buyed Apples machines, you always paid for the design.

well, i doubt they will do a big press release, which would point to a monday-- because mostly people who are waiting for a mac mini aren't expecting anything massive other than an update of a cheap computer.

Big difference

>> Apple typically issues updates on Tuesdays, but has had an occasional Monday release including the last iMac update on Monday, April 28th.

Big difference though, there wasn't a USA Federal Holiday during that week.

With Tuesday, Nov 11th being the Federal Holiday, many many people will take Monday off from work making this a four-day weekend.

From the standpoint of maximizing media coverage of any newly announced products, Apple would be ill advised to announce on this particular Monday.

Unless it's designed to be a "stealth" release.

Sorry guys but I just dont buy it- the UK store has just come back up with all new Christmas graphics, and it features the same old iMac.

I for one am buying the fastest iMac I can afford on Tuesday... :D

...Late on Tuesday :p

The best news that could accompany such releases would be a new mouse. Separately available of course.
One that attempts to match the design of Apple's computers and keyboards would be nice. You don't have to be Jonathan Ive to see that the current mighty mouse doesn't belong.

A new mouse could have something solid state to replace the fiddly trackball, and maybe even an integrated pad to let you multitouch.

In fact a small bluetooth trackpad (clickable like on the macbooks) would be great!

Yup, you are crazy and maybe living in a delusional world. the iMac has been in Apple lineup for A VERY VERY long time (just change of name, but still as AIO), in fact, its the best AIO out there and only now after years and years only begin companies like HP and Dell start taking AIO seriously.

The iMac will never be dropped any time soon and I can guarantee you 100% on that.

good specs macthetiger85, but what I meant is yeah, he want you to own a MBP but the MacMini will be like your computer backup which is portable enough to be hug around, as powerful as a MacBook. It won't have its own battery, it need a power supply, so I guess then if you want a portable computer you will still need a notebook.

The iMac being dropped? I would need a ton of what you're smoking to believe that...

The iMac is by far the best desktop machine on Earth, AIO or not, and a huge success for Apple. I couldn't be happier with my 24" model, which encompasses and surpasses ALL features 99% of the potential Apple customers would need in a personal/prosumer computer.

The Mini is DEAD and is gonna be replaced by a new Cube soon; the iMac will just undergo minor bumps by November for the Xmas season.

No way

No way, you are on to a couple things, but the picture is wrong. The mini will be enticing with a surprise GPU upgrade to the nVidia family for consistency across lines, but the processors will be perhaps a downclocked chip to 1.86ghz and a 2ghz or a 2 and 2.1. In exchange for the awesomeness of the GPU, we will lose firewire. That will provide us with the typical conundrum of tradeoffs while maximally benefitting Apple by catering to everyone except us, who should be buying something more expensive, according to them. Oh, and no option for the SSD drive. That doesn't fit at all.

Will not happen: Apple wants these people to get a macbook pro.

Front Row

We'll see you after it happens - I'm pretty sure I'm dead on - not to forget the environmental checklist of course.

The iMacs will be comparable to 3 models - "Best Macbook" (20") Good 15" (entry 24") Better 15" (best 24") upgradeable to 17" specs all except no dual graphics card (no need to save energy on a desktop) and the processors and storage will be higher since it's desktop parts - expect one firewire 800 on each iMac.

Does anyone remember when Apple updated the current Mini's how much were the previous gens going for in the Apple refurb store? Because I would definitely buy a current gen Mini for $400 if new ones come out. I really wish Apple would go back to that sweet $500 price for the entry level MacMini.

Well lets see an update first because it's been so long.

This is no rumor - the mini is definitely going to updated soon. My source is the simple fact that after waiting for a long time for an update, I got impatient and built a hackintosh last week. I might get a new mini anyway, if I can scrape up the funds.

Ok, maybe not 2.0 and 2.4 - and yea, i missed the SSD option (btw SSD Drive? solid state drive drive?)

cool..

Great to hear the mini may live another day. Hope they give it a decent graphics card and some "home theater" cpu power.

Interesting. I doubt the Mac mini will get the NVIDIA chipset, but I can see it getting the same chipset as the current iMac (1067 MHz FSB).

I would expect the iMac would move to the nVidia system chipset now used in the MacBook and MacBook Pro. There seems little reason to keep the iMac on Santa Rosa (Special) at this point.

As such, if the Mini is updated, I would fully expect it to get the nVidia system chipset as well.

I don't know about that. The Mini will most likely use the Nvidia chipset, but I find it unlikely for the iMac unless they're doing a low end IGP version. I could definitely see the iMac using the PM45 chipset and ATI graphics as an offering of sorts to both companies. PM45 supports display port and DDR3 memory like the 9400m.

The Mac Mini may be due for and upgrade, but I bet most people would rather have a Mac Netbook in the lineup instead of the Mini.

Come on Mac Mini!!!

Lets seem the new MacBook spec in your case....but leave the DVI port please!(Or through it in the box when it ships)

Oh, and FW, please for the love of god FW 400!

Mac Mini?

I really hope they do something different, to keep this thing alive. It's a great -entry Mac and I think if Apple just puts a little more effort into it, it can be a big hit!

Yes, but leaning more to a faster Mac mini than the Apple TV.

I use a Mac mini Core Duo as my all-in-one media centre ATM.
Front Row (with Perian), VLC, XBMC, DVD Player make it gr8. But... it does need more horsepower to be able to play all my 1080p (mkv, mov... whatever) files fluently to make it perfect.
Having a GeForce 9400 M and a 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo with 1066 MHz DDR3 RAM from the MacBook will help! ;)

Which Mac Mini do you have and how much memory? The current line of C2D with 2gigs doesn't have enough horsepower to play 1080p mkv files...?

Definitely won't be that good. They're not going to use the new gpu. At best, they'll use the previous macbook's gpu. The HD will start at 120gb and the ram will start at 1 gb. And it probably won't even be offered at 2.4 ghz. It'll start at 2.0 and the better version will be either 2.1 or 2.2. So there will be almost no change from the current specs. The only notable changes will be the case design and the displayport. It will retain the specs of a netbook.

The Mac mini's been one step behind the iMac for the past few revisions. But in the original Intel update in February 2006, it had the same chipset and CPU type as the iMac. And given the significant chipset change (NVIDIA), this could repeat, with the Mac mini being updated two steps to match the iMac.

On the other hand, I don't expect significant spec bumps, and I think it's likely that the CPU speeds will stay similar or go down (like the MacBooks') due to the GPU. I also wouldn't count out the current $599 model being retained for $499 or so, just like with the white MacBook.

Plus, I expect Firewire to go, Mini DisplayPort to come, and the case revised (black highlights?).
