Better late then never, but does this mean that they are going to delay release of the IP5? There is only a few months to go before the expected IP5 announcement.

?

Was the icon found alone or along with the label "White CDMA iPhone 4" and "White GSM iPhone 4," because if not, what we could be simply looking at is the white versions of the iPhone 5. It makes little sense for Apple to offer white versions of the iPhone 4 at this point with iPhone 5 set to debut in a matter of 3 to 4 months; just around the corner.

Anyhoo...Id like to see the iPhone 5 go back to the aluminum body design. The iP4 is beautiful, but Ill never let it out of it's case with that glass back...besides, with an aluminum back Ill be that much more protected from a random bullet.

Protect you from a .22, maybe. :p

Doubtful.

The differences between the white and black iPhone 4 are cosmetic. The fact of the matter is that Apple is shipping white iPad 2s right now. Whatever technical difficulties Apple had in shipping the white handset have clearly not been a factor in the tablet's rollout.

What are you talking about? Apple is probably going to ship 16-18 million iPhones in the quarter leading up to the iPhone 5's release. Shipping the white iPhone 4 will give those people a choice. It's not like the white iPhone 4 is really more costly to manufacture and support.

Isn't it a little late to bring out the white iPhone? Why not wait until iPhone 5. You'd also have to be crazy to buy a white iPhone 4 with the next version right around the corner.

  • I love how they paid attention to even this tiny detail between the antenna breaks for each icon
  • I'm also surprised that the color of the device is recognized by iTunes, that's pretty cool!

iTunes recognizes the different colors of every iPod and displays the corresponding icon.

My favorite are the spot on print icons in OSX when printing.

It's funny that some people keep forgetting that when the iPhone 5 comes out that iPhone 4 isn't going to magically stop being made. It'll be in production until iPhone 6. It's not like they make a gigantic inventory and then stop making them. They'll be making them day and night until they discontinue the model. While it would have been nicer to have the white iPhone 4 at the beginning, there's plenty of life left for it.

I'm glad to see my tip got written up! Is there any way I can get credited? I can supply the AIM username I contacted Arn on!

IMHO, the iP4's display will make it a much more relevant device, in the future, than say the 3GS has become...

I personally don't see what all the fuss is about a white iphone. You would think it was the Holy Grail or something. :D I personally wouldn't want one, I think it looks tacky.

There's also a white iPhone icon in the Lion Developer Release...

/System/Library/CoreServices/coretypes.bundle/... etc

Well at least it was found somewhere. ;)

rofl -- i think it was found on Woz by Engadget recently on the Engadget show.

I was so glad when Apple went aluminum on the iMac and did away with the white iMac, likewise for the MacBook though the entry level is still available, which is fine. I didn't buy an iMac until the first aluminum edition.

But I just don't get the clamor for the white iPhone. Or people going nuts over a white iPad. Sure it might look really "clean" but I think in the long run it is a novelty and getting a white iPhone or iPad is a mistake.

I agree with you. I prefer the aluminum and black. I love that the Apple TV just disappears among my AV equipment. My buddy found a bunch of white iPad 2 64GB Verizon units at his local target on day two. He did not pull the trigger, but prompted me to check my local targets and I found stock as well -- again -- all in white 64GB Verizon 3G on the day after release. I think Apple might have over-estimated the demand for the white one because apparently some folks decided to pass up the expensive model in white -- and I see more white ones on eBay than anything else. These Verizon models were also ignored by the people shipping them overseas for grey market sales. Personally, I decided to keep my order for a Black 64GB Verizon iPad 2 rather than running down to Target and picking one up right away. If I am going to drop $800+ then I want the color of my choosing. Currently my black iPad is somewhere between Hong Kong and either Anchorage or Memphis (not sure where its going to land).

How about the artist leaves out the antenna breaks all together, have one white v4 version that works for all - and thereby save download and disk space?

I have seem insignificant, but based on the second phone's file size, multiplied by the number of times the code is downloaded - how much space and bandwidth was wasted on this?!

My wife really wants a white one, and since we are Alltel-transitioning-to-AT&T customers, we don't really have a good way of waiting for the iPhone 5 (at least that I'm aware of). It's either iPhone 4 or some Android handset!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_6 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8E200 Safari/6533.18.5)

maybe there is no iPhone 5 this summer. maybe the white iphone 4 will be the refresh for this year (which will still sell like crazy- like everything else Apple), and maybe the iPhone 5 will be a CDMA/GSM hybrid that comes out next year.. I mean, why does everyone expect that apple will come out with a new phone every summer?

Because they want money.

Definitely. Id never have an iP4 bare naked to the world...Gorilla glass isnt the scratch proof thing people like to tout. Also, Im in the same boat regarding how much ive dropped it :eek::eek:

I'm surprised with it though... I (still) use my iPhone 1 in a neoprene case that I always take it out of when I make a call. (it doesn't have a window). So accidents while calling always happen when it's unprotected.

I've dropped it several times on a stone surface, one time it slid down a concrete slope for several metres, with the screen facing down. After that there was one tiny scratch on it next to the speaker area. The screen part still looks as new, even though the back and sides are scratched/dented a bit. The back was aluminium and plastic on the iPhone 1 of course.

In my opinion, as far as glass goes this is as good as it gets. I don't know if the iPhone 4 is made of the same material though, but I can't imagine them choosing a weaker material for a much newer phone.

just like the vPhone. They just want to make more money and test out their failed paint fab on any idiot consumer willing to buy whatever they're selling. It's the Apple way. $teve Job$ would've wanted it that way... :apple:
