In short, it sounds like that this whole launch ordeal is being rushed by Apple for some reason. Maybe it has to do with the leaked images? White iPhones will eventually become available and I will be ready when they do.

You need to learn to practice what you preach, brother. You're not fooling anyone with your contrived posts that struggle in vain to appear to be authoritative and humble.

You're incorrect on all accounts, and my reference to "childish" and "waste of time" was in regards to the numerous commentators who are unnecessarily attacking others. It is childish.

As an ex-Apple employee at the Victor, NY store and then corporate on West 14th in NYC, I can assure you of my statements. You claim to be noble in your efforts as you state I am misinforming others and as such will lead to issues. If that is the case, then why directly confront me and not simply state that Apple policy is not "..."? It is obvious you had a personal issue and felt it necessary to air that publicly. There are mature ways in handling commentary, and it appears that many ARE childish on this forum. If you wanted to help others, simply state what you BELIEVE to be true.

That's all. :)

And frankly my head hurts from all of this rhetoric. Rebut till your hearts content, we'll agree to disagree. After all, there's an oil spill in the gulf, poverty in Africa and families starving who would love to have a simple meal on their plates. Arguing over a piece of electronics that will most likely be discarded next year is rather moot, I was simply stating my experience and relating it to the experience of others. A lot of commentators are reading into the postings of others and as such are angrily responding and then refusing to admit when they may be wrong. It's called humility. The internet make it easy for individuals to berate one another due to anonymity, it's a shame that this brings out an ugly nature to those who refuse to be "human".

This is all part of Steve Jobs master plan. Pretty soon he'll be able to get us to riot the streets of the Earth at his will with the snap of his fingers. :apple: for life.

I've seen "Federal Express" on some recent Apple statements, which is weird because FedEx hasn't gone by that name since January 2000.

No, I don't understand. Why are there so many people on here acting like the fact that anyone cares about a phone is such a revolting thing that said people should shoot themselves in the head right now because they have nothing to live for. I feel the vast majority of people on this apple, and therefore iPhone-focused forum are not throwing tantrums but thoughtfully voicing the fact they are upset with the lack of communication from apple, and would just like to know when they will get the phone many of them have already payed for or would like some sort of timetable on the color they are waiting for, which is not at all childish, but completely justified.

There have been several that expressed measured disappointment, but to me, it looks like there were at least as many that have excessive anger and carried on about it to an unjustified degree.

If people really base their life on a shiny phone like several of the posters here seem to, I think those people are at most risk of shooting themselves in the head. The people that are saying "get a life" seem to be a lot more grounded in reality, because it really is just a fancy communication device, not a reason to live. There's little reason to get emotionally maladjusted about it.

Considering Apple gave ZERO warning to there not being any white iPhones at launch, how could the guy know the white wasn't selling when he went to pre-order? He couldn't have known because Apple clusterf#$( this entire launch.

To be fair, it's more likely that Best Buy fumbled the ball. I think they got 200,000 pre-orders for the iPad. Selling out all 600,000 on hand really took everyone by surprise. If they had sold 300,000, for instance, Best Buy would likely never have hit its ceiling. It doesn't sound like they had warnings that they had exceeded their quota from Apple right in time. Though the way the mess was going, it's not clear messages saying, "Stop! No more whites!" would have gotten through.

I think that many people who have gotten the canceled notifications may have been among those who, frustrated by the lack of response on ATT or Apple's on-line stores, clicked the order button more than once. Such folks, eligible for one upgrade, may have ordered two or three. Some have reported multiple charges to their credit cards. ATT and Apple have been trying to clear the over orders, but may have accidentally canceled orders for folks who correctly placed only a sole order. By the 24th we may discover that some canceled orders may still end up with a delivery.

you'll spell out 'bitch' but halfass censor 'jesus'? what was the point of that?

weak.

dear weak:

bitch is a verb referring to the obnoxious whining of female dogs; starring out jesus's name was done out of respect for anyone who may have been offended by my usage.

you newbie dufus. go to sleep indeed. and stay in your room with no supper.

For such a large company Apple sure does seem like a bunch of amateurs every time they launch something new. You'd think by now they'd have figured it out.
I feel the same way although as a longtime AAPL shareholder I note that repeated iPhone launch bumblings ultimately do not affect their bottom line. They will announce record financial results despite these painful snafus.

Given that Apple Inc. blows doors on the rest of the S&P 500 components, I'm willing to avert my eyes from this train wreck. It would be much easier for me to play armchair CEO if Apple wasn't increasing shareholder value, but they do (handily) so I won't. I am content to submit my proxy ballot every year and re-elect the board of directors.

If I wanted to bitch and moan, I would probably ask the rest of the S&P 500/Russell 2000 CEOs, "hey, why don't you guys increase shareholder value like Apple? Steve Jobs makes one dollar a year. Why are we paying you so much for vastly inferior performance?"

I'm thinking of buying the iPhone 4 myself; it would be my first smartphone. However, I'm perfectly content to wait a month or two. It's just a frickin' phone.

To me, this all seems like something that must have happened very last minute, like they found something wrong with the iphones being manufactured, or had a shortage of a part (like the touch screen shortage reported in the press), and then had to quickly backtrack on the launch day quantities. I think eventually we'll see a statement from Apple regarding what happened, because now it's clear that it's more than just a server being overloaded with order requests.

Couldn't have said it better

Gotta have it, NOW, Come on I need that new iPhone or Apple product NOW give it too me , here's my plastic take it give me my iPhone NOW.

i agree with what you are saying, but i would guess there are some people in my situation. my 3g is really having some major battery issues, so i need a phone VERY soon. i'm lucky because my pre-order is still good, but if i had to wait another month, i would probably be forced into buying a new battery just to make it that long.

Don't forget to put on your tinfoil hat tonight. Seriously man, where do you come up with this crap?

I now tried for the better part of two days to find out what happened to my order. I only had one order, no problems with AT&T (upgrade eligible), and somehow my order got canceled. What's most frustrating, nobody at Apple or AT&T can or will tell me why. My order has been escalated through management at Apple. My last contact with Apple management only resulted in an apology because he couldn't tell me why it happened, and that he hoped to know something by Tuesday. This is shameful. I don't blame the manager, but you'd think a company the size of Apple would have some explanation for this.

I truly feel your pain. I actually had my iphone stolen the on 16th, but I at least had hope on the horizon with my new one on the way. I had two phones ordered through Apple on the 15th for me and my wife, and both are now randomly canceled. I've spent over 6 hours on the phone (a lot of hold) with Apple / ATT to no avail. I too have been "escalated", but in the end, all I get is "sorry, no idea why this is happening, but once an order is canceled it cannot be reinstated." I have been a loyal apple evangelist for over 20 years (yes, even through the horrid scully years). This one is killing me. Praying for a miracle...

To all that got cancelled, sorry.

I noticed that a lot of people got their iPhone orders cancelled for no reason and are pretty steamed. While I would be a little peeved, I noticed a lot of you are outraged and are blowing things out of proportion. If any of you have ever bought an iPhone during the launch period, you should know by now that there are always going to be some snafus. There are those of us who remember the first iPhone nightmares. Then the 3G issues where they couldn't even keep calls connected. If you are a new addition to the iPhone, welcome, and sorry. This will be the norm as long as Apple still makes quality stuff that people want (and are possibly pulling a Nintendo by creating an artificial shortage).

I am waiting for the white one and will wait until it is available without having to worry like a nervous mother on prom night if it will show up or not.
I am still using the first gen iPhone. If I can wait almost 3 years, I can wait another two months. If you have a newer iPhone and it still works ok, so can you. There are better things to worry about in your life and 6 months from now you will wonder why you were freaking out so much.

Relax.
;)

Just one word : FAILED.
Just use the money you just saved for charity or associations, or make a present to your kids.

In the future Apple might want to consider offering a premium early-bird option for these people who absolutely must have the new iPhone on launch day. I'm sure most of them would happily pay $30-$50 extra. Anyone who didn't want to pay would perhaps feel less entitled to get it on launch day. It's funny how many people are able to justify their irrational responses to the whole situation by playing the victim role. 1st world problems eh?

Your case makes sense. If you reserved online then you went through the whole account thing yes, so your line was probably tagged as about to be upgraded. So when the online order tried to process it could use 'eligible for upgrade' as June 2012. And thus cancelled.

Some folks that tried to order both on ATT and Apple got hit with the same thing. The first order didn't appear to go through but did, so the second one cancelled. Many called ATT and got their line sorted out and then called Apple online and the order was reinstated and is still on track for the 24th

I did the same thing yet my order wasn't reinstated. Both AT&T and Apple said I had to re-order. What annoys me is that I ordered twice. That's a legit reason for canceling my order. Fine. But I cancelled my AT&T order on Wednesday and for three more days my Apple order was fine until they decided to cancel it. That is not okay by me. Thus, I refuse to accept that as a reason for canceling my order. I used a major credit card. I accepted the terms. The AT&T rep didn't fix my eligibility. Not my fault. At the very least I'm owed an apology.

Really? I'm gettin' dogged for trying to replace a stolen phone? $1000 damage to my truck from the break-in and hours of dealing with canceling credit cards, etc, and I'm the bad guy. My kids are doing just fine, thanks and so is my charitable giving. I happen to actually need this phone for work. Much of our infrastructure revolves around it, so ease-up, ok?

I wish this rumor site (and others) would do a little more digging around about the white iPhone. I would like to at least have some sort of idea of when it's going to be released. I'll get the black one only if the white is a month or more away, otherwise I'll wait. I haven't heard ANY rumors/news about the white since Apple mysteriously took it off the front page last week. Nothing. Zip. Nada.

Com'on guys, let's get some news on that!

It's going to be a little tough digging around to find the exact answer, but you can probably bet that it is some sort of manufacturing issue. Could be something to do with the finish not looking so good after adhering the glass to it, or possibly the first batch didn't match the prototype in color and finish.

At any rate, expect some sort of ballpark date when the phone is officially on sale. It's kind of like the Apple iPad cases. I got one when I ordered it with the iPad and it shipped shortly after the iPad came out. Now it's next to impossible to find one. Why? Who knows. I just know that Steve Jobs knows that there are a lot of people who refuse to buy the black one and he is trying to get them manufactured and out the door ASAP.

EDIT:

This just in. Could be a viable reason why shipping dates have moved, some orders cancelled and no white iPhone.
