Plus the colorware stuff seems to chip. I don't have much faith in how long it'd hold up with a bumper on it. The friction from the bumper moving slightly while on will eventually wear through their clearcoat (if they use clear, I dunno), and the paint. I've painted enough slick surfaces with automotive paint to know something like that shouldn't be handled much.

You'd need to really rough up the glass surface before painting it to get any sort of meaningful adhesion... maybe they are doing that, but I dunno how.

This is possible as I have done it and have the parts to do it . It's simply 3 main parts you need to do this , white full front assembly , white full back assembly and white home button . The finish product comes out good and is actually good enough if you don't wish to wait . Based on the price of parts ,the price isn't bad if you keep your old parts as you can resell them easy for around that price and not really spending but $50 bucks ... but you can get your full $300 back if you sell your old parts to the right people . Ive charged $200 bucks but I keep the old parts and that's allows us to profit from it , however people that want their old parts , weve done it for $250.

P.S - the reason other colors have not been done is because you can only buy stock black and white parts so far .

Good luck !

Well I ordered today. If nothing else, they have very nice customer service. We'll see how this turns out :)

(IphoneRevivers pushed me over the edge. Never thought about selling the old parts)

Oh man. The white iPhone looks so freakin' good.

I really don't know how much longer I can hold out before I have to settle with a black one. I've had it up to HERE with my 3G slowing down. Must... wait...

if it wasnt for the warranty I would be all over this. I just cant chance voiding my warranty. Does anyone whos done this know if there is anything apple has put on the back of the phone to tell if its been opened? cause im considering buying a white back and just switching that out. but I dont want to open the phone period if apple has some type of booby trap on it like the water detectors.

Please post pictures when you get it.:)

Really makes you wonder how Apple can be having so many problems with these phones if there are enough parts out there for people to be able to build their own.

However, since these kits do not provide the white Dock connector or headphone parts, they're more like 80% white iPhones.

This is because they aren't actually addressing an issue with the white paint, it's simply a cover up for "we just don't want to release the white iPhone with the same antenna problems so we're gonna fix it first".

Corporations are con-artists.

That said...I'm still waiting for a white one.

I will. It'll be a while though. I just ordered a new phone from apple, they're saying it be here till aug 20th.

hey guys:

have you seen this mod by gelaskins?

http://www.tuaw.com/2010/07/06/nice-white-iphone-4-mod/

You can put the skin on the front. If you look on the site, they have a lot of weird gothic templates.

I was thinking that the white front skin + white back skin + retro apple icon = fluffy unicorn-ness. :)

seriously though, I think this is my solution. I'm not going to wait for the white iphone and I'm not going to blow 300-400 dollars to make one.

never mind- found the gelaskin threads. man some people are on top of this already. Search for it if anyone is interested. I love the creativity factor.

There is no way for them to tell the rear was ever removed.

Why does everybody seem to think this is a scam?
Do you know that the iPhone isn't really $199/$299 - it's a lot more, but you pay the rest off through your contract to your telco. That's why there's a contract, so if you back out, you still have to pay for it, otherwise AT&T would be down a lot of $$$.

The OEM parts are all overpriced so people don't buy one of every part and assemble iPhones themselves and sell them cheaply. When you get a kit through this site, you are buying a new screen and digitizer, presumably because it's a pretty big job to separate the front panel from the LCD.

Nevertheless, if any of you get one of these, please post a video! And let us know how the colour of the front panel looks, see what Apple is so upset about!!

I recall at some point Apple filed for a patent for some component which lets them know if the device has been opened... but iFixit would have found it if it's being used in the iPhone 4.

Also, it's risky, but once the white iPhone 4 is out, they may well not even realize if you send in a white iPhone that used to be black, and even if they check your purchase records, they may just think it's a mistake.

Holy, those are some expensive price tags for a piece of plastic or glass or whatever it may be.

I was mailed an update:
http://www.whiteiphone4now.com/white-iphone-4-blog/2010/8/3/second-batch-of-kits-has-arrived.html

Has some pictures of what he's sending out.
