I'm pretty sure it's just an illusion because of the color difference and the angle of the shot. Makes no sense why Apple would need to or want to do that.

Bleeding light, maybe? Perhaps the plastic needed to be a bit thicker to prevent this. Alternatively, maybe they're providing a "free," built-in sort of bumper to mitigate the antenna problems. :)

Oh no the white one is barely thicker then the black one. First world problem if I've ever heard of one.

Actually I could feel that it was slightly heavier as well. I weighed both the black and white model and indeed the white is a little heavier but I really dont care, all my cases that I love (SGP) still work fine so its a "Who Cares" kinda thing as said before.

Oh, jeez, I can't believe you don't know this...charge the black one up to the equivalent level of the white phone and they will weigh exactly the same. ;)

Bought the white iPhone for the missus because she couldnt wait for iphone 5 and I cant tell the difference side by side with my black one. Even bought a bumper that was available before the white one was released, and guess what? The white iPhone slips in perfectly.

Really is a none issue this one.

The update of 0.2mm seems reasonable. 1mm was a joke.

From the new comparison pictures, it looks like the top plate is responsible for the slight difference in thickness. Perhaps it isn't popped together tight enough? I'd try squeezing it really hard.

I wonder how much variance is present in the black model actually. I mean if you measured the thickness of several black iphone 4 models from different batches. Perhaps there is variability and this will occur with the white model too. Or perhaps the white is very slightly thicker.

As it is so small, this is not a problem. As the link in the update points out, most cases fit. The few that don't will have to be altered by the manufacturer. But I have to laugh at comments about owners of iphone 4 cases having to buy new ones for the white iphone they just bought to replace the black one. I seriously doubt that is happening to any great degree. And for those few who are buying white iphones 6 months or less after the black just for a new color, they are not going to complain about having to buy a new case. Suddenly after buying an expensive iphone just for the new color they are getting a sense of frugality? Right.

Now on to better topics:
1. Where is the white ipod touch?
2. When will the ipod classic get a hard drive upgrade?
3. Will there ever be an ipod tough 3G/4G? Will it double as a mifi?

Wtf???!?!?!!!

Hey, Jonny I've for CEO!!!! Not.

Looks like his brain went to England but he left his body behind to do some last minute 'designs'. Nice attention to detail, all you had to do was change the color, genius.

The comparison photos are out of focus with blown highlights...not exactly what one would want for evaluation and the measurement link is a sample of one...when someone has measured five different black phones and found no difference in size, get back to me,,,,

Yes, that's all they had to do. It was that simple......that's why it came out so quickly.

I've ≠ Ive.

Uh no. This is a good thing for manufacturers. This means you have to buy another case. The last thing they want is for you to use the old one.

Uh yes, THis means case manufacturers also have to re-tool and build new cases that are otherwise the same save for a millimeter. I doubt they are real excited about doing this.

The iPhones kind of look like oreos from those views.

Now you've got me craving...

But seriously, I wonder what the difference is for. There has to be a reason. It looks like the front plate is the thicker one. Maybe for the proximity sensor?

pretty amazing someone noticed a 0.2mm difference from just picking the darn thing up

I hope people noticed that the picture has a lot of flare on it (the green hue) that makes it look bigger than it is.
Also is it just me or does the bottom half of the phone look the same - ie the whit and black glass at the bottom.
However this is the biggest no issue since time immemorial...

Lord let me find my box and pack it back up for a return. You have to be *****ting me, yall get worked up over a mm? Next thing someone will be measuring the mesh that covers the speakers to see if there are any differences....get a job.

The UV protection necessary for the white iPhone didn't come out of thin air. The added thickness was likely to provide an additional layer of protection. I'd be curious to see its innards, which is no doubt just around the corner. C'mon iFixit, rip it apart!

this sounds really really insane :D

Do they weigh more? is it cream filled?

Thick creamy new iPhone!

some comparisons with my iResQ back:

Apple shouldn't be aloud to state the thickness as being the same as the black iPhone.

They shouldn't be able to say it silently either.

Or did you mean something different from what you wrote?
