As long as we're on the topic of measuring millimeters, notice how the screen on the physical iPhone 3GS is slightly smaller than on box picture (as well as pictures used on Apple.com website).Still sneaky of Apple to advertise it as the same thickness as the black one...
You need a larger sample size though.
With only one data point for each, you need Poisson statistics. The standard deviation would be the square root of the value.
So the two values are:
138.8 +/- 11.8
141.2 +/- 11.9
So the error bars are large enough that we can't say for sure.
Also the difference is small enough that oils from touching them could be the difference.
Its good data though. Just need some more for better statistics.
pics or it didn't happenI have both the white and black 32gb iPhone 4's next to me now. How anyone can say one feels immediately thicker than the other is beyond me lol.
Dude, you're thinking too much... There should be very little difference between two white iphones as well as two black iphones since they're made exactly the same.
I'd say one test is fairly reliable in this case assuming those are the same scales.
i hope this turns into a class action suit. I'm so frikken sick and tired of apple making all these tiny mistakes and playing the silent game about it. So sick and tired. They are not god, they need to take responsibility for their mistakes.
There is very little difference between the two masses. 2.4mg difference. That is less than 2% of 140g.
It is not a matter of "thinking too much" about it but a matter of simply "thinking" about it.
...
The strangest part for me is, that his white iPhone is made of plastic instead of glass - maybe he should buy it at the Apple Store and not on the streets, Mr. "I can measure the thickness by hand, but not detect that it's fricken glass."
It's actually 2.4 grams, which may not be a huge difference per se but in a product with such tight parts tollerance to me suggest differences in parts used. It may be the white casing, it may be a reshaped chassis or even a different chip. iFixit will tell.
