I thought that you couldn't buy it online. If you can't buy it online, then you definitely can't get it launch day
My only hope is that my local Best Buy receives at least one, solitary 32GB white model.

Well this thread shall be the record to come back to in a week and see who was right and who was boned by Apple, but still loves them, because the soreness will only last a few days...right?
I technically switched my pre-order to a 32GB black because of the availability issues, but I am first in line, so if a white model somehow gets there by mistake, I'm reneging.
I vote yes. I have lots of reasons.
First of all, if there was a production issue, then they probably wouldn't have enough for preorders. It would make sense to keep whatever white ones are available to release on release day (giving another week or production time).
Second, it is on record that Apple told Best Buy to stop accepting preorders. Why didn't they ask Best Buy to call the people who ordered white ones to switch to black or wait? We heard no word of that. I think some people will be getting white ones. Then again, if Apple won't have them for sale, then maybe they won't give any to Best Buy. Best Buy told me I would get a white 32gb if they happened to get one or a black 32gb if there isn't any.
Thirdly, maybe Apple will have whatever white ones that have been produced for sale on launch day for non-reserve sales.
Lastly, everything I said could be absolute bull crap.
It's just a guess, after all...

That would be conveniently 31 days after launch, leaving anyone hoping to trade a black phone for a white one with restocking fee hanging dry, I can't believe Apple would be that stupid, unless peoples fanaticism really runs that deep.
Nope. I just don't see it happening. And by some slight chance it does, apple better say something before-hand. My local apple store is 2.5 hours away. I'm not driving down there and calling off work for probably nothing.
It's for that reason alone that if they wait, I hope they wait until then. And it wouldn't be stupid. Financially, that's a smart decision. They won't lose money by having to take in a used phone... even with the restocking fee.
A girl I know is an ATT salesperson. she said july 19th but I still dont believe anything anyone from ATT says haha. even when I know them.

They might not lose money, but they will definitely lose a LOT of good will and customers.
I have a feeling, and by feeling I mean complete guess, that Apple will have them here and there on launch day. after all, the 24th is "later in the summer" than the 15th was.

I disagree. If people want a white, they can wait like the rest of us. "Beating the system" by getting a black only to switch it out is pretty unethical.

....and Apple says on their site that white is not available for pre-order or in-store pick up... I say beginning of August, no reason really.
Apple is shooting themselves in the foot either way, if they have them people will be pissed about pre-ordering black ones and trade them in. If they dont people will be pissed about having to order black ones to have the new phone.
