And that "memo" from AT&T wasn't even an official press release. Hoenstly, I don't trust AT&T's word at all.

I got a feeling that they didnt' allow any pre-orders of the white iphone4's was because they were short on supply and are not sure how many each store would actually be able to get. Maybe only 15-25 each store. This may be just a long shot, but I will try to be within the first 10 inline so that just in case there are a few white ones around i'll have the opportunity to snag one up.. if not its black for me

June 24th, word spreads like wildfire as scattered blog reports and blurry cam images of a white iPhone 4 emerge. millions scramble to understand this phenomenon as Steve Jobs descends from the skies pooping white iPhone 4's from his anus. The world will never be the same again.
I have a feeling they will be released launch day. This was my first instinct when i saw they weren't available for pre-order. Would make sense as to why Apple hasn't said anything either. It's a surprise. Why would he flash that white phone all over (so many hands-on videos of it too), if it's not going to be available til sept? When they announced the iPad, they announced the 3G available at a later date.

That's my plan too. Although i have a reserve for a black, i'd think if i wanted white, they would let me take the white since it wasn't available for reserve anyway. I'm not settling for black, i like them both really.

I am in mid Michigan and the managers of two different local RS told me that RS had their own supply of the iPhone 4 and that their supply numbers were separate from the other suppliers.
He stated that they would be reserving phones for their customers from what they already had in their inventory and that their inventory was not connected to Apple or AT&T inventory.
I had my name and account info at the top of the list of both of these stores.
The first store was only able to reserve 1 white 16g iPhone 4 but that one was not for me, I wanted a 32g and they said they kept trying but couldn't get one.
The second store was able to finally reserve a white 32g after trying for about a hour to get a PIN, the managers of both of these store were told by some one that there was a limited supply of white iPhone 4 in there inventory and that there would only be a few available for reservation.
Now I understand that the process of pre-ordering and reserving are usually two different things but it has been made clear that RS will be selling these new iPhones on the 24th of this month.
It makes since to me that RS would have their allotment of new iPhones stored some where so that they can begin their own distribution process of getting the phone out to their stores by the 24th.
I think that there are some white iPhone 4s out there in all of the distributers warehouses but just not enough to go around the way there should be. I believe that some where in a RS warehouse you can probably find a few white ones that were delivered with the black ones for launch and that's why they were able to reserve it in their system with a PIN.
Now here's where it get tricky, I figure that Apple may ask the distributers to hold off on selling these phones until they have enough to go around OR you will probably see the local Apple and AT&T sales reps out with their clip boards on launch day going through the line before the doors open to find out how many folks would like to change their order to white because they just happen to have received a small supply of them rather unexpectedly.
I bet that by the launch date they will be able to give all the others a date for when they can expect to receive a white iPhone if thats what they really want and then they will go way up on the restocking fee in order to discourage folks form walking off with a black one just so they can play with it until more white ones become available.
But yes I think RS has a wharehouse some where with a white 32g iPhone 4 that they could put in my hands on the 24th but weather or not Apple will allow them to send it out to my local store is yet to be seen.

....and Apple says on their site that white is not available for pre-order or in-store pick up... I say beginning of August, no reason really.
I'm surprised on all the people in denial. Apple has made an announcement, the White iPhone will not be in-store on launch day.
I would expect the White iPhone to show up in stores about 3 weeks after Apple announces them available for ordering. I think Apple will probably announce the White iPhone in the middle/end of July and they'll be in stores at the beginning/middle of August.
May be it won't be available on the 24th but I bet that by the 24th they will announce a actual date that the white iPhone will be available and I think that date could be the 25th or soon enough in the future that people will chill out and not buy up a black iPhone just to have the new iPhone 4 now instead of some unknown later date.
If the people who reluncantly ordered the black iPhone 4 new that they could get their hands on a white iPhone 4 sooner than later they would get out of line or cancel their order and some one else who is on a "back order" list could have their black iPhone on launch day instead of some time in July.
Apple would still have all of the available new iPhones sold to folks who wanted black any way and they would save themselves the hassle of all the potential returns.
It just doesn't make any since to me that Apple would want to end up with thousands of black iPhone 4s that have to be checked out, reset, cleaned up, and re-boxed with new headphones and sold again as refurbished units.
I would imagine that the cost of getting all those black iPhones ready to resale would be greater than the 10% restocking fee they charge the customers and that's why I think they may end up going up on the restocking fee by launch time if they can't get it together on the missing white iPhone 4.
A very likely scenario. Still, this whole situation with the white iPhones is just full of fail on Apple's part.
Well the ethics of the forum seem to be in the doldrums given how many folks are reserving 2, 3 and 4 phones to eBay!

First, stop getting caught up in the language of the memo. It was an AT&T memo to AT&T employees. You can not and should not take the language from one company's memo and apply it to another. Apple has not made a statement one way or another about *when* White Iphone 4's will be available.
Second, stop reading so much into the wording on the website. People keep taking the memo and mixing it with the wording on the Apple Store and assuming they are not and will not be available. You can not and should not read so much into the wording. The language comes from an online store allowing you to order a product. It's very simple: At this time (meaning right now) the white iPhone 4 is not available for pre-order (because they are not taking pre-orders on it) and it's not available for in store pickup. That does not mean it won't be available for in store pickup in the near future (ie: the 24th) it just means it isn't available for in store pickup now.
My prediction is that at least the Apple Stores will have some allotment of White iPhones each. The numbers will vary from store to store and will be based on availability at the time of shipping to those stores.

Chances are if there are limited quantities they'll be sold and gone before somebody can return their unopened one.
where did apple make this announcement? last i heard from apple at WWDC conference .....both of these colors are available on launch....
