Be Honest, who here bought their mac with their own money?

I did...my parents were too cheap and too mac-unfriendly. My dad was like "how can u do things without right click?":eek:

I saved up and bought my own macbook. I am thinking about getting the imac too...

Not me because it's not mine. My parents won't get me a computer, but worse (Much worse) is that they won't let me buy my own with my money. Plus I have time limits and a password I don't know on my account.

Not sure what being mac-friendly has to do with not wanting to buy something for you, but whatever.

I'm an adult, and thus pay for myself.

Sort of. I own a company and it bought my PowerBook for me, on the orders of the Director (me!).

And Apple gave me the iMac :)

If you're under 18 then good for them! :D

To the OP - assuming you're quite young, good for you. Paying your own way is incredibly rewarding and will set you in good stead for the rest of your life :)

I "borrowed" my dad's Mac Plus since 1986, then his MacIIsi, then his powerMac, until I was able to afford to buy my eMac in 2003...since then I have been paying for my :apple: stuff.

    Save and invest wisely.

I purchase all of my electronics items (computers included) myself. If the total exceeds my credit card's limit (which is quite low right now, self imposed to try and limit my spending) Then I use my parent's CC. However, I have to pay them in full within a day or two of shipment. FYI, I'm 18 and in university, living at home still.

When I was born JFK was the president. If someone could tell me how to get my parents to buy a computer for me, I'd be all ears. :D

Well I can understand them not just giving me one, but not letting me buy one myself?

Is this thread aimed at those in school, or further education, or everyone in general?

If everyone... then I saved up for everything I buy. I don't own a credit card and to be honest I don't want one. I do everything the old fashioned save up method. Just bought hubby a MacBook and saving up now for an iMac and iPhone :D

I've bought every single one of the Macs I've had (MB, MBP, and now MP) with my own money and no help at all (I'm 16). Trust me though, it's a lot easier when you have permission.

    Jeez, that's a bit harsh considering you're 36.

my dad's anti-mac, he's a videographer and the programs he uses are all PC. he bought me a toshiba about two and a half years ago, i really wanted a mac but he wouldn't do it. it was on its last leg and i bought myself the macbook, he probably would have bought me another laptop if i was willing to stick with a PC, lol.

he did however buy me my ipod video for christmas, my boyfriend bought me the ipod touch, and i bought a shuffle this morning now that they're basically giving them away :D

I bought my own of course because my dad thinks it's important to pay for your own stuff he will help me out a little bit but I'm on my own for the rest of it and I think that's a fair and a good deal.

How do you afford all that stuff at 16?

I bought both of my iBooks, iMac, Mac Classic and Apple IIc with my own money.

However my mini was a gift from my parents.
