goes off to buy a ferrari with some unknown person's money

I put money towards mine, but my parents basically bought it for me.

I don't really have a job and my parents would rather have me work hard in school and do sports and things I like instead of spending all my time working. They believe that I am a kid and I shouldn't spend all my time working, whether it be school, homework, or doing a job.

Last summer I worked for about 2 weeks doing a small job doing technology work. This upcoming summer I plan to work more of the summer (depending on the school's budget) doing computer work and possibly working/volunteering at a pharmacy (career aspiration).

All the money I do make I put into the bank, which basically is a savings account because I never have taken money out of it. Some of it gets invested.

My computer is 3 years old and up until recently I haven't really found the need for a new computer but thats only because its becoming quirky. It does what I have to do, it's not the latest and greatest but it gets the job done- basic stuff + advanced stuff photoshop + video editing, etc.

I think its best to save money. Clearing out your savings to buy something is stupid, especially a computer which becomes worthless in a matter of years I don't think is a wise decision.

I'll be honest, I don't pay for much of my stuff. My parents pay for pretty much everything I I do/own and I am thankful. Even if I worked everyday after school and every weekend there is no way I could afford to buy a car, gas, and insurance, let alone a computer.

Basically my saved money will be the money that I use once I get out of college.

I paid for $400 of my iMac when I got it for Christmas. I had a $500 limit, which is plenty fair for kids these days, especially the ones that have a $2000 limit or something ridiculous like that. The only Mac my parents paid for was my eMac; I paid for my iMac G3, iBook G4, and Mac mini myself.

As for other things, they paid for my car, half my gas, my insurance, and that stuff. It's really great they do this for me, I know kids who work 40 hour weeks to pay the aftermentioned stuff. With me working 15 hours or so a week and getting paid minimum wage, i couldn't afford all that stuff.

I bought the mac in my sig with all my own money and it was one of the most rewarding purchases I had ever made. Made it by working all summer at the place in my sig as well. I was 15 at the time but now I'm 16 :)

Yep, I've bought every computer I've personally owned. I even have some money invested in family units.

I've had over the years..
-IBM Thinkpad T23
-IBM Thinkpad R40
-10 iMac G3s, all sold off (bought for reallly cheap, most sold immediately)
-2 Clamshell G3s, both Blueberry
-1 Wallstreet PB
-1 PowerMac G4
-2 Titanium PowerBooks, 500 and 867
-1 Dual USB iBook G3(now in family circulation)
-1 iBook G4 12"
-1 Aluminum PowerBook (current personal unit)

Every previous unit has provided the means to buy the next, and I always manage to sell them for more than I bought them for. It's a neat system that has yielded me an Aluminum PB in about 2 years, while sampling nearly every mac made before that on the way.

I've personally purchased all my computers (most of which I built). The same is true of my BlackBook. I think saving up the money for the MB made me more appreciate of it and makes having it all the more sweeter...

You have generous/rich parents! :)

Well, they were genorous, not willing to do it again though :(

Got it when I was 9 btw :D

EDIT: It was the first time I had ever even heard of a Mac! My parants saved me from a life of Windows! Before the laptop I was forced to share a Windoze 95 PC with my brother!
ANOTHER EDIT: Im surprized that so many people have black MacBooks! They cost over £100 more than the middle range white one nd only difference is a slightly bigger HD and a different colour case! Just get a middle range MacBook and double the RAM, its more useful and cheaper!

In a roundabout way, Microsoft bought my MacBook Pro. I say that as I earn a living teaching Microsoft technical courses. If it wasn't for Microsoft taking over the world and so many people wanting to go on Microsoft courses I wouldn't be employed by the biggest IT training company in the UK and wouldn't earn the kind of money I do. So thank you Mr. Gates.

Ha! The irony! Like the signature BTW!

How do you afford all that stuff at 16?

I bought both of my iBooks, iMac, Mac Classic and Apple IIc with my own money.

However my mini was a gift from my parents.

A job, seriously, I make like 2k a summer..

anyway, my parents paid for my first desktop when I was 13 and then I paid for 75% of my MBP

now when I get my next mac I'll pay for it all myself, sense I have a job now.

My wife bought our MacBook. It was back when she was only my girlfriend and I had my iBook that I did buy with my own money. I have since sold the iBook.

I guess I'm a spoiled little kid. My mom got me my Macbook, it was my birthday/christmas/vacation/college present...lol :p

Although I did buy my own iPod...which I broke. Time to save up for an iPhone? Yes.

I've bought every computer I've owned since my ibook G3 600mhz with my own money. My cinema display was a graduation gift though. :)

I took out a loan to get my MBP - It's a business expense since I use it for work, so it's basically paying for itself.

Parents bought my iBook.

I bought my iMac during school as a gift to myself. Then I bought my Macbook with my income tax return and extra money.

Wirelessly posted (Apple Communication Device: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/4A93 Safari/419.3)

My own hard earned money.

I wish I could say I'm as self-supporting as the majority of you, but honestly, my parents bought both of mine (iMac G4 and MBP)...in my defense I was saving up for the MBP, but when my father found out he used it as leverage for me to take my lip ring out...which I refused initially, being the stubborn gal that I am......needless to say, I came to my senses and conceded...saves me a good chunk of money and the lip ring isn't much of a loss since I'm planning on looking for a new job anyway...

I assume this thread is targeting students, not already working folks :D.

When I was a student I bought both a 4G iPod (20 gigs) and a G4 Powerbook (around 1800 Euro at the time) out of money I earned doing internships
