My 16GB iPhone 4 is just fine, but maybe because I have a case on it.

Have both models and can't get the signal to drop at all. Also as to curious where you ordered from? Got mine from AT&T and it was not an early arriver.

Also have both models and NO signal issues with either :)

Am in the UK and got the 16gb delivered by Apple yesterday morning, then collected the 32gb from Apple store yesterday afternoon.

I ordered online from Apple, having no issues.

I've held the phone for 20+ minutes like that. I've even wet my hands (read that on a blog) and tried. No issues.

I'm thinking this is a manufacturing issue. Wonder if we can find anything out from the serials.

I've got a 16GB delivered by O2 in the UK yesterday morning and have zero reception problems whatsoever.

I've tried the phone extensively at home, work and around town, covering the entire left side of the frame with my hand for up to a minute and there is no decrease in bars.

I certainly haven't experienced any degradation in signal quality when on a call, and have had no call drops either.

In other words, it is a non-issue. Just typical launch day hysteria surrounding a new Apple product. For some reason, it seems to be popular to hate something that becomes popular these days.

We got two new 32gb i4's yesterday and have none of the reception issues others are reporting. The phones have been phenomenal so far!!!

3 phones no problems.

I can wrap my whole hand around the phone and it wont drop.

I can tightly grip with my left hand and I only go down to 3 bars, I sustained it for 2 minutes with no further signal loss.

May I ask one of you guys to kindly post a video showing an iPhone that's not affected by the issue?
I wasn't able to find it anywhere, and I think it could be interesting to add such a contribution to the discussion.

Cheers

My phone is perfect! No dropped calls yet in Ocala, FL... I usually get around 2 bars of signal here at work and the same is true with Iphone4.

Picked up a UK 16GB model yesterday and cannot get the signal to drop at all by touching the surrounding metal strip in all combinations, with or without wifi. Pretty relieved because it would have been returned otherwise - the bumpers look ugly to me.

It may have to go back next week anyway because it has yellow splodges at the top and bottom of the screen...any they ain't fading yet...

I am doing the same and full service. I was at my house last night with service that always jumps around and no problems with i4.

Place the phones left corner into your palm, wrap your palm around the phone. Make sure your SKIN is touching the black break in the antenna on that left side. Count to 20, slowly.

That seems to replicate the issue for more. I myself have no signal issues either. Just saying.

My home is in a 3-bar area for my 3G. With the iPhone 4, I get 4 bars now. I've replicated what you and so many others have said countless times. I've moistened my hand to try and get a better "seal." I've squeezed so hard my fingertips turned white with the pressure.

Bars stay the same. No difference.

Not saying the problem doesn't exist, it just doesn't exist for ME. Design flaw or user issues due to different chemistry, environmental issues, radio signals in the area, who knows.

For all I know, the bio-aura on some of the more rabid posters on here is already off the scale to begin with so.....

I can't effect the signal no matter what I do. I'm either impressed with the phone or my network, or maybe both.

If I take my case and press the phone hard against my palm, the signal sometimes (it's intermittent) eventually goes down but never drops out entirely. Here's the thing, though: that's never going to be an issue for me. As beautiful and sleek as the iphone's design is, I'm always going to have some kind of case on it. Plus, I don't hold my phone with the palm of my hand bridging gap on the left corner.

The signal issue depends on your location and signal strength imo. I'm at work, almost downtown Indy and it is fine. When I'm home on the outside edge of 3G, it drops.

I have a very strong signal at work and cannot reproduce the loss. However when I am at home, my signal is not the best and it will deteriorate very quickly if held the way as described.

I'll go pick up a bumper today and see if I can get it free - I already have a complaint in with Apple and free bumpers was suggested to me as a possible fix by a senior iphone advisor.

If you get a free bumper, I and many others want $30 credit from Apple!

i'm going back to the Apple Store today to see their demo models. also the ATT store to see how their demo models fair...and then compare mine at that location. Not sure why the 2 I have are having this issue. Other than that the phone is phenomenal. I haven't had a dropped call yet just weak signal. WIFI gets weak but I do not loose connection (speed is slow).

I live in a very poor area for reception and my 16 GB iPhone 4 has far better coverage than my old 3G. I've tried replicating the discussed signal issue and it's remained the same, no problems at all.

I would like to disagree with you on that one! not that i am happy to do so though :(

I got two 32GB versions direct from Apple and both suffer massively with the signal and yellow blotch issue! i can sit here with it on the arm of the chair with full signal strength then all i have to do is touch the left hand side and bridge the two metal strips and within 30 seconds the signal has gone! move my finger away and it comes straight back!

All i can say is there must be a bad batch with some kind of conductor or insulator missing and you have been lucky to get the good ones!! i am certainly not a hater by any stretch of the imagination!! why would i shell out £1200 too slag the thing off

I'm pretty sure it has to do with AT&T's coverage as much as anything. Before I put a case on it yesterday I was getting this problem in my home, but on campus signal remained strong with the same death grip. If you're in a place with really solid coverage you're probably not going to see this issue. If you are only tenuously under AT&T's fragile umbrella, it's more likely to happen.

When I held it for a few minutes in the EXACT right way, I dropped from five bars to four. I wasn't able to reproduce that a second time, though.

(FWIW, I live in a suburb of a mid-sized city in Michigan. Not out in the boonies, and not in a big city.)

I have to agree with this (at least from my experience). At home holding the phone normally, for me, it will drop all the way down to searching. At work it will only go down to one bar. I cannot replicate the problem with my old, now my wife's, 3GS.

For those without the issue...yay for you. It's an awesome phone.:D

I am going to wait a week or so to see if any news other than non-issue comes out of apple. I will probably try and do a swap to see if the issue can be resolved with a new phone after next week.

I just tried to duplicate the issue but couldn't. Mine seems fine. Held it there for a good 15-20 seconds & signal stayed full.

I haven't had any signal issues so far...

But I live in a fairly urban part of Arlington, VA...usually when you're in walking distance of a Metro station, all carriers come through at full strength.
