Which processor would you have used?

I've looked at this notebook several times over the weeks since release and didn't have any of those issues.

I didn't see any of these problems either. I mean it's still using an SSD, as far as web browsing and opening apps go it's basically as fast to me. I'm sure if I pulled out a stopwatch there would be a 2-3 second difference in boot/app launch times....I personally don't care about that.

That's a much touted argument.

But if the argument is that Apple maximise sales and profits by withholding features, it does seem to assume that most people replace their computer every year.

I would very much doubt that most people buying the new MB this year will buy a new one next year if it has a speed bump and a better camera.

Get on Craigslist right after the 2016 model is announced and see how many people in your area put up their 2015's.

And also see if Apple somehow magically manages to put in a higher definition camera.

They sandbag a bit; it's just the way it is.

Why else would they not include ports or a card reader?

Um, because not everyone needs ports or a card reader. Why is this still a thing when people have said "I don't need ports or a card reader?

I'll get the USB - USB-C adapter. I'll only need to use it very rarely.

I'll transfer photos to my iMac, and sync them to the MB via iCloud.

I value the portability / retina display more than a bunch of ports I'll never use or power I won't need for a second machine.

Why is it that although the rMB might not be great for more pro use cases such as video editing or heavy PS use, its reduced to being a toy for checking FB?

Presumably there are all sorts of things people use computers for other than checking Facebook or editing 4K video. And presumably the new MB will be able to do those things for most people.

If it still isn't the computer for some people that's completely understandable. What isn't understandable is the inability in some people to realise or accept that different people have different priorities based on different circumstances and different use cases.

That's exactly what I'm arguing about here. I am aware that people will buy whatever Apple product without considering the prices. But still, they shouldn't use this fact to sell their products at over-exaggerated prices. It's unethical and just plain wrong of Apple.

How do you know it's "over-exaggerated"? Do you know the cost structure of the R&D?

Apple has close to $200B in the bank. Either the WORLD is full of Apple sheep or you don't get capitalist economics.

Well the max scaled resolution will be 1440x900, which isn't terrible, but I have my doubts that it will be able to perform with the Core-M.

I have watched 60fps 4k video on YT at 1440x900 with no stuttering on the 1.2GHz rMB.

Which seems pretty good seeing as people are saying you can'y watch 1080 video without it stuttering.

Either they've been unlucky and had a different experience to me, or no experience.

With the caveat that they have only been 5-10 minute clips. not sure if it would throttle if it was, say, an hour long show on Netflix.

I'm sure they do a bit - but I still don't think that many people replace their laptops every year just to get a better camera.

I'm sure some people might, and some might appear on Craigslist, but as a proportion of all the ones they sell this year? Probably not that high.

I'd certainly agree that the camera is pretty lame, but it doesn't really bother me because I'll likely never use it. With any new purchase people will weigh up the pros and cons based on their requirements and use case. If it doesn't suit you, buy a different machine. If it does suit other people, get over it.

You originally said you doubted people would sell their laptops for a speed bump AND a better camera. Eh, at this point we're just splitting hairs.

And likewise, I don't really FT all that much, so the camera is not that big of an issue. But we both agree that it's a crappy one for a premium computer in 2015.

I guess what galls me is that they'll announce a better one next year and announce it with great fanfare as an engineering marvel when we know it's sandbagging. I suppose its the disingenuity that I find annoying.

Then to clarify - I doubt that most people would replace their new computer after just one year for a speed bump and a better camera.

Sometimes it just seems that when Apple are concerned people think if they say something often often enough it magically becomes true.

Would you like to have a wager that Apple will, in 2016, announce a 720p camera "with great fanfare as an engineering marvel"?

Because I think we both know that's really not going to happen.

Take the MBA as an example. Yes, the original had a bit of fanfare when it was released. But could you cite examples of any subsequent MBA releases with any of this great fanfare about engineering marvels?

This. As others have pointed out, this is basic economics 101. I have no clue why people are complaining...
Some users here are forgetting that Apple has people who already have calculated the profit maximizing/dead weight loss minimizing price with everything else (R&D, supply chain, advertisement) in mind.

I think I know.

The new MB has the following: a screen, a keyboard and a trackpad.

There are other laptops with: a screen, a keyboard and a trackpad that cost less.

So the new MB is arguably a better looking, better quality build than other laptops? Irrelevant.

So Apple invested in redesigning the keyboard, with objectively better components (steel switches, butterfly mechanism, individual backlight LEDs)? Irrelevant.

So Apple invested in a new haptic trackpad? Irrelevant.

So Apple invested in new battery design and tech? Irrelevant.

So Apple invested in new screen tech? Irrelevant.

Its only about the negative, and anything positive is irrelevant.

Right, people only look at ways to bash a company that's doing a better job than the rest combined. I'm hoping the people who post these are teenagers, because they still got time to learn more.

Okay, a slight bit of hyperbole on my part. But I bet you it will be mentioned in the keynote for the 2016 and as a positive improvement by Tim Cook or whomever is doing the keynote.

You really don't think they sandbag at all? Really?

You're right - it was a complete over reaction, and a complete distortion of what actually happens.

Of course when they update a line, they will mention the improvements over the previous model.

A company mentioning improvements? Perfectly reasonable in my book.

Announcing old tech with fanfare and making it out to be some sort of engineering marvel? Completely unreasonable.

But seeing as we've now established they don't actually do that, all you're doing is trying to dress up the reasonable as something completely unreasonable to make a point which isn't really there.

You really don't think they sandbag at all? Really?

I already said I'm sure they do a bit - but I'm not sure its that big a deal.

I think it was th base model. I was pushing it to see what it could do. But for me I'd rather pay for a pro refurb than this. at a grand maybe I'd buy the MacBook.
