Just tried the one MB, and was able to see the lag by pushing the apps to fullscreen. Am going to go back midweek when I have more time to look at one. Another member has also observed the same lag on 10.10.3 so it`s not isolated.

Lets see, am still open to one, equally much of my workflow is in fullscreen/spaces so this does concern as it wasn't just dropping the odd frame it was a pretty good slowdown. In another context this display machines get hammered all day, especially a new model in a busy flagship store.

Certainly inclined to hold off until people physically get them and we see the feedback.

Q-6

I didn't full-screen any apps, perhaps that's the difference. (I don't do it in real life, either, which is why I didn't try it yesterday on the store's rMBs.)

Hi! i'm wondering about buying this mac, i like the size and the weight. I'm only using laptop for browsing the web, watching movies and so on. I also play legue of legends occasionally, do you guys think this mac can run it? don't just say i should buy something else for gaming or something. i don't play that much so i don't need much power or play with the graphics maxed out. Thanks for the help.

PC user here, when you say ui lag with apps in fullscreen, do you mean just when you expand the windows to cover all the space or actual fullscreen like when playing a video/slideshow? I played around with safari with three tabs playing videos from youtube/nba and scrolled through yahoo news and was surprised I didn't experience any lag.

Fullscreen/Spaces I use them all the time to speed up my workflow. Right now on this Mac I have 12 Spaces, each with multiple apps and or tabs open, Safari alone probably has a 70-100 tabs open alone. MacBook is a very different animal and not designed for such heavy use, equally it should cope with a moderate number of Space`s and App`s.

A "Space" can be another desktop or fullscreen application. Apps can reassigned to a Space and the Space can be ordered to meet your needs.

Q-6

I see. My needs are not nearly as demanding but will probably stop by tomorrow to play around with the spaces a bit and see how it copes. Thanks for the heads up.

Its a Core M powered laptop, not a laptop for the 90s :p Multiple Safari tabs and streaming videos will not be a problem and the average user doesn't have anywhere close to 12 spaces and 100 tabs open at once. I think some people are freaking out too much. The MacBook will handle NORMAL usage just fine. Its when you start getting into gaming, RAW files in PS and editing 4K video you are going to run into issues. Again, your average user is not doing that. I do photos/video work for a living and Im going to put it thru the paces in CS6 and iMovie and report back as soon as I can.

100 tabs. It's like over on the iPhone forum people with a ton of tabs open. How do you manage that many tabs? Just curious it would drive me crazy.

Just read the latest hands on review by Jason Snell for Macworld. Turns out the nMB isn't that much faster than my iPad Air 2. Scroll halfway down for the comparisons with older systems:

http://www.macworld.com/article/290...macbook-is-a-laptop-without-an-ecosystem.html

And to be fair, it's roughly on par with an i5 MBA from 2012. I'm wondering if the superfast SSD in the new one would give it an advantage. On a bit of a side note, it seemed the display model was noticeably faster on Saturday morning than it was on Friday evening. I read somewhere than 10.10.3 apparently contained support and drivers for the new pcie interface.

But what I also got out of it was that my iPA2 has almost laptop like performance, which is itself impressive. My mantra is: Your ipad combo is good enough, fast enough, light enough, and gosh darn it, it's already paid for!

Differing Spaces for differing subject matter and or applications. 100 tabs over 4 Safari windows as Spaces is easily manageable as is applications, often I will assign an application to a Space/desktop.

OS X will deal with the memory management and you always know where you apps are and can go back to them in quicklime. Spaces is one the most compelling aspects of OS X for me especially in a multi monitor scenario, even when the Notebook is standalone I still use it the same way it`s just faster.

That may be, but I have found using an iPad for productivity is nowhere near as good as a laptop

It's just a geekbench score. It's like comparing a Chevy truck to a
Harley Davidson and saying that they are comparable because they both can go the same speed.

Actual use will be very different.

But the iPad isn't anywhere near as capable as a Mac is. The speeds may be similar, but the operating systems are not.

I gave in on waiting, plus i was on the fence with the whole footprint & wrist space of the 11" Air and smaller display since I'm used to the 13.3". Plus with the 4-6 weeks dates

I went to my local BB today with a 2015 Macbook Pro 128GB model for $1177 out the door, INCLUDING TAX! Used a 10% movers coupon. On top I'm a Elite rewards member so with this purchase i will get roughly a $50 gift card to use a BB. Ill prob pick up a matte spec case, or a magic track pad when i have it plugged into a display.

Couldn't pass up that deal on the Pro, it has the cool new track pad, 13.3" display & a BEAST of a machine. Should be MORE than enough for me for years to come. Had they "by chance" had the 2015 MBR in stock it would have made me choice harder. Ive already played with the MBR in my local Apple, so i know what it was about. But the price i got on the pro would unreal!

For me as this will be used like 95-98% of the time at home its a great machine. Its still VERY light for the little beast that it is. Im a bigger guy so the MBR felt a tad small to me at first at least. My big paws fit the 13.3" paws great

If you don't really need the portability of the rMB, the 13" rMBP is a really, really nice piece of hardware. I doubt you'll be less than thrilled.

Great choice I like the 13" Retina a lot, more so than my 15" honestly I think it`s Apples best portable.

After the fiasco on the 10th, I thought about doing the same thing. I have a maxed-out late-2013 13" rMBP...what do I need the new MacBook for? Waiting an extra month for the rMB really made me wonder if all this is worth it. So I thought about waiting until the Skylake rMB and sticking with my Pro for the next year.

I could really benefit from the portability that the new MacBook offers, though. And I really love some of the new technology it offers. So I'll wait it out. But I think you made a good decision...I'm sure you'll like it.

I have a 15" MBPr as well and I completely agree. My sister purchased the 13" retina a few days ago. If anyone's looking for a powerful portable laptop, this is definitely the one to go for.

All of these devices just represent different options on a scale. For me, rather than owning a 13" rMPB, I prefer to have the larger 15" rMPB for the home/office and the new Macbook for getting out of the home/office. I'll also enjoy the tiny Macbook when on the couch or in bed.

I tried the new Macbook at the Apple store, today. In terms of appearance, it's nice but it looks (and feels) a bit toy-like. It's very light and compact, though. It looks great in the new dark grey, though I'm not a fan of the gold. The Retina display was great, of course, and performance seemed snappy. I also liked the new key design; the throw feels short and solid...a bit more refined. The new touchpad worked well; the "click" requires little effort, not much more effort than a tap.

Ultimately though, I prefer the 13'' Air's screen/chassis size. That said, I don't need an ultra-portable laptop. The 12'' Macbook screen also looks better proportioned than the 11'' Air screen. If I were in the market for an ultra-portable, I would choose the Macbook (assuming I did't need the Air's additional ports, power, etc.).

If the 13'' Air had a Retina display (without much of hit on battery life), it'd be near perfect, IMO. If I were buying a new Macbook, I'd choose the 13'' Retina Pro. It pretty much has it all.

I always bought the 15" for the performance and the real-estate, with the current 13" not so, unless you absolutely need the Quad Core processor and or dGPU. To me the 13" Retina is the best portable Apple has ever produce as it`s fast, not overly compromised, has good thermal management, and retains portability :apple:

Same here. Except I just sold my 13" since I got tired of lugging it and the iPad around in the briefcase every day. Besides the iPA2/kb combo, I do have a 2012 15" rMBP at the house that I can haul if I need more horsepower.

That said, I hope they don't get any in at the Apple Store or BB in the next couple of weeks. If they had them when I looked at the displays, I so would have made an impulse purchase.

Agree 100%. Plus loosing the 1.3" in screen is fairly noticeable. Being a bigger guy with bigger hands, the new MBR sort of small to me. Well it sort of is being its in the footprint of a 11" MBA. BEAUTIFUL but not really what i need with my big paws. I picked up a 2015 MBPR today with the new track pad for $1177 from Best Buy out the door! Also have a $50 coupon coming my way being a elite rewards member. Much more computer spec wise with a sturdy footprint for a non- road warrior.

To me... The MBPR is still light and thin as hell being i don't travel and all and just use it around my house. I hope they bring out a V2 next year and fit a 14" display with Skylake. NOW WE ARE TALKING! The extra wrist space found on the MBPR & MBA 13.3" models is valuable to my big paws. :D

Hell the new MBPR 2014-2015 even work good for the couch or bed. Keep in mind the MBPR 13" actually oddly has a smaller "footprint" compared to the MBA 13" with its trimmed bezel, and oddly less wrist rest area. Id like a 14" version of the MBR. That would be awesome for us bigger guys.

Even if you just use it at home being lightweight has its benefits.

Sure a lot of the time I'll prefer to use my desktop with a 27" screen but sometimes I want to sit on a couch or bed and I can see the lightness of the Macbook being handy. Don't discount that extra ~1.5 lbs of the MBP, it's hefty.

True, i guess i would have to test that out. But as i said, my hands are BIG. I was worried about them cramping being i would have ZERO wrist rest area I'm used to. Even my bottom of my palms land on the wrist rest area on my 13" MBPR instead of my wrists. I actually enjoy plugging my up to a external and using a FULL SIZE keyboard A lot of times. I watch a lot of TV in my room with the big 65" on the wall, and honestly i always either have my iPhone 6 plus with me, or the 13" MBPR. To me the MBPR feels light. When i felt the MBR the first time i was like OK, this is STUPID light  lol.

But i get what you are saying. Thats why i stay out of the Apple store, so i can already trick myself into thinking what i have is light lol!
