I wouldn't say any phone has ever been "magical" and I don't believe any phone coming out will be magical either.

One thing is for sure...it will be the best ever :)....and I honestly think it will be something really special :)

I'm not expecting it to be magical (I don't really know that Apple will introduce features that are truly new, as opposed to new to Apple's phone lineup), but I'm curious to see what it'll be like, both with respect to design and features.

I'm actually just as curious to see what they add to or change with the 7s/7s Plus to differentiate them from the 7/7 Plus.

For me, all the features are already there, nothing much new to expect......I am thinking more about future design.

There are several features that I would like to see added though. I would like to see wireless charging, improved battery life (which is already pretty good) and increased water resistance. The 7 was a step in the right direction, but to remain truly competitive they need to match and / or beat Samsung's specs.

The jump to the 4 from 3gs was really big. A metal and glass design never done before and an amazing screen.
Overall I would say the 3 to 4 is the bigger jump if the rumored specs for the 8 are true.

As others have said, I think the 4 was the biggest jump and will always be the biggest jump. I didn't even own the 4 (was Android at the time it came out) yet I was really wowed by it. The design, screen, camera, FaceTime... very impressive.
Let's not forget, there will be lots of people complaining about it as well.
Yup. Even if the iPhone God Edition was exactly like all the rumors claimed, had all the features, amazing new design, and even a low price point- there would still be a plethora of people on here that would find something negative to say. "Way to play catch up Timmy" or "LOL Android had this 1034 years ago!" or "ALL THIS R&D PUT INTO IPHONE BUT WHAT ABOUT DA MACKS!11!??//!?"

I think it would be pretty easy to beat the 3GS -> 4, since that was the least magical "upgrade" in iPhone history. The 4 was recycled 3GS tech (same chips) in a shiny wrapper. Total sucker move on Apples part to sell dog slow tech for an additional year.
In terms of the SoC, absolutely (the same could be said about the A8, same 25% improvement over its predecessor). However, it did have twice the RAM at 512MB, so there was that.

My wife and I are looking to get it this time next year. We're going to skip all the lines and the backorders. Our 2 year Apple Upgrade Plan will be done this time next year so we'll trade in our phones and get the 8 if it's available (or just keep our phones for the 8s? or whatever later in the year). We're really happy with our 6s+.

Biggest rumors for me that interest me: wireless charging, OLED screen, and a larger screen on front.

So basically, what interests you, is a phone from 2014? o_O

Perhaps your definition of magical and mine are not the same. I have had every iPhone since the 3GS. None of them ever approached 'magical.'

That being said, wireless charging would be nice, OLED would be nice (if they can limit/eliminate screen burn in), bigger display/less bezels would be nice. None of these features are 'magical.'
I agree that none of these should be considered "magical" (at least not anymore). If this were 3 or 4 years ago, then sure...but in 2017, it's more of a "yawn". We've seen phones with this feature set for years. Apple giving their customers what has been available for years, isn't anything special. I'd like to see them do something actually innovative.

It won't be a biggest jump of the iPhone because some of the rumored additions were on other smartphones long before this.

Oled and wireless charging have been out for 2-3+years now. Yes, new for the iPhone...but not magical.

That boat set sail a while ago...
Well said!

wireless charging
glass back
facial scanning/iris
OLED

guessing will be main selling point.
Haven't heard anything about facial recognition or iris scanning....that's a different phone, that releases in two weeks. lol. But basically, the big selling points of the next iPhone will be it becoming more like a Galaxy phone. ..That isn't exactly very impressive or pushing any real boundaries. I'd like to see them do something meaningful and innovative, instead of settling for adding features that have been around for years.

I agree with this. It seems most Apple fans are easily impressed by a shiny new wrapper. The 4 wasn't much of an improvement under the hood (in some ways it performed worse since it had to drive 4 times the pixels with the same GPU as the 3GS at a slightly higher clock speeds). The only thing that was worth getting excited about was the screen, but I guess that is similar to the rumored OLED iPhone...

Objectively speaking though, what's there to get excited about with the rumored features of the next iPhone? It's only adding things that have been available for years. That isn't exactly breaking any new ground here.

Having actually used android phones that include the above features I'm expecting Apple to do better. My note 3's oled screen was pretty cool. My Nexus 6's wireless charging was terrible. If Apples tech isn't a significant bump over these, which I expect it to be, I won't be wasting $1000.

Apple hasn't been at the forefront of new tech for awhile now but what it does it does well.

But yeah it has taken Apple way too long to get these things. Because of that I'm far less willing to spend $$$$$$ unless it is radically better than what I've had. You have a great point.

That's what I'm saying exactly, the only rumoured feature that hasn't been around for years is the minimal bezel design and fingers crossed that it will have Touch ID embedded in the screen.

I'm actually praying that Apple comes big with this update as I type this post on my Galaxy S7 company issued phone.

After using this phone and seeing the Galaxy S8 ... I've never been so close to thinking I'm going to get away from iOS.

I don't want to by any means, but another year of the same design language ... YUCK!!!

The iPhone 4 had the a4 which was the first Apple made chip, it had twice the ram, way better camera, front camera which was insane at the time, video chat, gyroscope, worlds thinnest phone, camera flash, exterior antenna, new design, retina display and so on. I've had every iPhone other than the first one and I can say the 4 was definitely the biggest upgrade.

I am not so interested in the hardware, I am more interested in how iOS evolves. If I am honest, during the 4S era, I did feel iOS was leaps ahead of android, but right now, iOS feels very dated and restrictive. I am hoping for some evolution for iOS (and hopefully macOS too). I think that will be the deciding factor as to whether I upgrade my 7 to an 8/edition, or try Android again.

(Every 2-4 years I have been moving between the two operating system, choosing the one I feel is best, at the moment, so far it has been a disappointing ride with the 6s and 7).

tech is hard to improve these days and those features on IOS is what is needed to improve.

there have been rumours of some kind of facial recognition but chances are most will use touch ID under the screen.

I just hope Apple don't put Touch ID on the back of the iPhone like Samsung did with the S8, they spoilt a great looking phone by doing that.

... and terribly inconvenient to reach touchID on the back of the phone.

Well, I hope there's some credence to these rumors about a 2nd front camera & hope its NIR (near infrared).
This type of tech has augmented reality applications, as well as being the cornerstone of how Microsoft's Enterprise grade facial security method works.
That would allow for secure Face Unlock in the present, and when AR becomes more ubiquitous in a few years... the usage would be backwards compatible back to this phone. It really could be a "future tech" iPhone!

As an aside- I only thing I really want from iOS absolutely asap, is flipping multiuser already!
