Everyone is different and I am very happy with only using my black leather magnetic link, now discontinued, and only use the Infograph watch face for a few years now. Like it because it is most customizable. Do not care about constantly changing bands and watch faces.

how about changing face based on location. Like Modular when I arrive at work, but something more simple/artsy when I get leave (Toy Story, Time lapse, etc).
You can do this with Focus modes! I have a location-based focus modes for Home and Work that does exactly this. (I also use the Focus modes to change other stuff, like my iPhone home screens, and some notification settings, etc - but if you wanted, you could set it up so the only change was on the watch)

I agree with the general point that new watch faces would be welcome.

It's a small thing in the grand scheme of things, but it does seem careless that Apple hasn't bothered to update the older watch faces so they show seconds in Always On Mode. As John Gruber points out, of the 33 watch faces that show seconds, only 2 update in Always On mode - despite it being flagged as a significant new feature of the Series 10.

Well said, bud.

quite happy with ultra modular doesn’t fall into that too much information mess that said im sure the devs at apple consider too animation too much information etc destroys the battery performance. ultra modular perfect for my old eyes. ive seen some good stuff on clockology but the software itself is far from efficient or reliable

What’s that sleep complication, buddy?

I have a scheduled rotation between Modular Ultra and Solar Analog. Perfectly happy with those two.

They are happy designing and selling new straps, but can’t/won’t design new watch faces.

I personally think that new faces should come with new straps.

At least it will add extra value to the straps.
There thousands of faces available. If you can afford an AppleWatch, you can afford $10 for a slew of different faces.

I don’t think a new face per band is viable (for Apple), because there will always be more bands than there can be watch faces as long as there are no truly custom ones.
But I agree that the watch face situation is bad, and I’ve only been here since watchOS 9, how did people not get bored out of their skulls with the previous 8 iterations?
I think it’s very Apple and very WRONG to bundle watch face colors with seasons though, the first Apple Watch didn’t have YELLOW until one year (two season) after release. And how often can you reinvent beige and blue?
Calling a device “truly personal” and gatekeeping colors is incredibly deceptive.

To be fair, based on the current watch faces, bands, and colour variations, I could have at least 40,000 combinations for my Ultra if I stick to Apple first party bands. More of I go third party of course.

I want custom watch faces, SDK please.
Wow. Watch faces plus complications variations gives like a zillion alternatives already. I have trouble keeping track of all the watch faces, yet you want more. I thought it was a watch, not an entertainment device...

I bet they knew in the design stage, that they wouldn't provide a user-level face-design API, and do their utmost to discourage third-party substitutions, because... Patent, Copyright and Trade Dress issues. Partly Apple wouldn't want to get sued for enabling theft of IP, but they also wouldn't want other genuine watch companies, and sponsored affiliates, stealing Apple's thunder. And THEN you get into the snark and outright antagonism... Nah.

Perhaps faces sold as vetted apps in the store might retain control for Apple, and some joy for consumers. They surely thought of this, so, why not, Apple?

Personally, I have a Gen 1 AWU, and have settled on Wayfinder, full time night mode, max brightness.

What I want is a mode where the dial stays at full brightness, full function for as long as I ******* want - like while I'm watching the stopwatch or Tachymeter.

I have owned S0/3/4/7/U1U2 so been there from the beginning. I use analog faces and I just counted them with watch face gallery: 27 (twenty seven).
I stuck to the Wayfinder since getting an Ultra, does everything I need.
So no, for one I do not think that the watch faces are "stagnant" (Apple adds new ones every year) and I am for sure not "sick" of what I got.
To each their own

If you want a watch, Casio sells them for $10. This is a notification device, and a fashion accessory.
