Still cannot understand why would anyone use iPad for any serious of work, when it cost as much as a MacBook Pro (when includes all the accessories). iPadOS is just as restrictive as iPhone.
Because you so fixated on it being a tablet which runs iPadOS that you cannot wrap your head around the fact this particular form factor allows more versatility.

iPad for tablet purpose, the entry level iPad works just fine. M4 iPad is overkill and just waste of money.
So, let me guess… Apple should not provide the option to buy a M4 iPad OLED, right? Only offer an entry level iPad… don’t place any resourcing into developing iPadOS any further… correct?

Eh, for me, I have undergone a case of RTO (Return to Office). My iPad Pro M1 12.9" with ASK allows me to have my cake and eat it too. It allows me to get by with a Mac Mini at home and if I need to connect, I can remote connect and use the keyboard and trackpad on the Apple Smart Keyboard to do what I need to do using my iPad to control my Mac.

This means my iPad Pro is all I need on the go--no Mac needed. So I can do all the iPad-y things and do most of the things a Macbook would have done for me.

What usefulness of iPad? I get it is portable, an iPad with keyboard case is just as heavy as a MacBook Air.

I give the regular iPad maybe have some usefulness as secondary devices for content consumption, that is what iPad's usefulness stops.

Never understand why people wants to video edit, creating CADs design on iPad, when macOS or Windows is infinitely more useful than iPadOS
Are you just here to try and make people not like the iPad? Sounds like you should probably head over to the Mac forum and let us be. We like the iPad.

Tablet only. No desire to use a keyboard. I can’t see how people can use an iPad as a pc replacement. I have two Mac’s for that.

I know what kind of product makes this particular form factor more versatility, it is 2-in-1. Specifically, Microsoft Surface. Although Windows 11 still have some issues with touch, but it is largely improved to the point where it is completely usable with pure touch.

Like it or not, Apple is moving into this direction as well. They sell you overpriced keyboard case for exactly same purpose. Rumours indicate touch-enabled Macs. Hopefully, this will make iPad obsolete.

M4 iPad is completely pointless with current OS restrictions. I would argue even the iPad Air with M3 is complete overkill. Apple should just offer regular iPad for tablet purposes and regular iPad doing tablet thing well.

People think iPadOS is simple, but the simplicity is the sore point. Everything iPad is convoluted and take extra steps to complete compare with macOS.

The laptop that I replaced with the M4 13" Pro for most of my portable usage is a Win11 MS Surface Pro. I won't buy another 2-in-1; I like Windows - my desktop is Win11 - but I don't like it for a touch device.

Well, thankfully… Apple doesn’t share your thoughts and offer a higher end version of the iPad to folks that are interested in it like myself.

But you portray the iPad as if it hasn’t evolved over time… I do understand that there are limitations around iPadOS, but Apple has made improvements over the years. And one thing to note, iPad is a fairly young platform compared to macOS… almost a 25 year head start.

My current iPad is too old for any serious usage, and is currently relegated to displaying chord charts while I play bass. When I am eventually able to upgrade, it is likely I will connect my bluetooth keyboard (A 2009 A1314) to it at some point. I mean, I used to use this keyboard with my OG 1st gen iPad back in the day!

I use my iPad with the Magic Keyboard in most cases but still end up on my MacBook every so often.

iPads sell significantly more than Macs, to kids, elderly…everyone and iPad OS is completely controlled and monetised by Apple via the App store, which do you think has more of a chance being made obsolete? M4 iPP is pointless, well thats your opinion but it has the best display on the market, better than any MBP and that is its big USP.

I really like my iPad Mini as a reading and research tool, as well as other basic daily use, which costs much less than MBP. In addition, it’s really convenient for media consumption on the couch in the evening instead of using the iPhone or laptop.

Look, I am not saying iPad doesn't have any usefulness. The entry level iPad and iPad mini is perfect secondary devices of Mac. I think it the entry level iPad is perfectly fine for kids, elderly or even students.

All you need to know is I support side-loading apps, you know how I feel about iPadOS or iOS. I can put up with restrictions on iOS, because I have Android phone as my primary phone. I can put up with restriction on iPadOS, because I have Mac and Windows as my primary computing devices.

The M4 iPad Pro which is selling well over $1799 Canadian Dollars (which is about $400 over the entry level M4 MacBook Air), if you adding the overpriced keyboard case, it is well over $2100.

M4 iPad Pro is pointless entirely because of the price point and the restrictive iPadOS. It doesn't matter it has best display on the market, the iPad Pro itself isn't really make any sense.

If I have to choose a Mac or iPad as only primary devices, I choose Mac without any hesitations. Honestly, until Apple removes restrictions on iPadOS, iPad Pro is pointless.

Pointless for you, sure. I don’t know that you can talk for all the people who use them professionally and find them really quite useful.

This thread keeps reminding me of the old quote: the person who says it cannot be done, should not interrupt the person doing it.

Exactly. Because it is pointless for him, he declares it pointless for all. Flat out wrong.

I have the 13 inch M4 iPad Pro with MK and use it as a mostly stationary device in my home. My 11 inch M4 iPad Pro does NOT have a keyboard and I use it for almost all of my tablet/mobile uses--consuming media while sitting on the couch or out on the deck, reading books, listening to podcasts, surfing the Net, and reading emails/texts.

On the rare occasion when an email or text requires an extended reply, I wait to reply until I can do so on either on my Mac or using the MK on the 13 inch iPP.

I brought iPad 11” last year during my family travel. I use it for work (checking emails, review office docs and Ms Team), take family selfie pictures (I use Magic Keyboard), reading while waiting for plane or train, listening music & watch Netflix (so I don’t have to drain my iPhone battery) plus I feel safer because I can charge my iPhone using iPad (no need to bring power-bank separately).

Having said that, I would say, iPad can do things more comfortably compared to iPhone or Mac. It’s not mandatory device but it can be very useful especially when traveling. Also, it looks like the build quality of magic keyboard (mine is still the old one) is better than macbook air which made it more suitable for mobile usages.

I use a iPad beside a MacBookPro since the very first iPad hit the market.

Now I still have a MBP and now a M1 iPadPro 11" 2 TB. purchased and used it without a keyboard.

I use the iPadPro 11" M1 now about 95% of time. But when typing long text I was not satisfied with the precision of the on-screen keyboard especially when typing relatively fast.

So - I purchased a Logitech slim folio case (the version without a touchpad). The touchscreen of the IPP itself is a perfect touchpad - so no need for a further one on a keyboard.

I am extremely happy now since the Logitech slim folio Pro Case allows very precise and faster typing and has function keys as well which helps really a lot !

Had the wonderful ZUGU case before and now I use the LogiTech slimline Pro Case, which is absolutely stable and serves as a construction-part of the perfectly protecting case. I can take it everywhere and use it as a stand or just type - which is a joy to use.

I am only sorry that I did not purchase that keyboard for a long time before but just 2 months ago.
Very happy with the M1 11" iPadPro and the LogiTech keyboard Case , which weights just 100g more than standard-cases.

.

I use my M4 iPad Pro in an Apple Folio, and it suits me perfectly.

I have three Macs, if I need to do some heavy typing.

I bought a tablet, to be a tablet. No interest in using it as a laptop replacement.

What about you?

What about light/medium typing, like Social Media comments, forums like MR, Reddit, Quora, responding to emails, iMessage, whatsapp etc, this is where the Magic Keyboard comes in very handy for me personally anyway. I really cant be bothered to use my Macs for these kind of tasks, its just more fun and engaging on iPP + MKB.

The on screen keyboard works just fine for tasks like that. Such as how I just answered you.

I do! My 11” iPad Pro replaced my laptop back in 2018, and I haven’t looked back. I’ve NEVER used an external keyboard with it. I always use the virtual one and type with my fingers. Or I take hand written notes with my Apple Pencil. I have fully adapted to an iPad only workflow. I don’t use a laptop anymore or a computer. And I am so used to using the touchscreen on my iPad that whenever I am near a regular computer, I always try to tap the screen. 😂
