Yeah, but it's not what I'm used too. :/

I won't have to use a trackpad much though, with my christmas money I got from my grandmother and aunt I'm going to buy a magic mouse.

I recommend you try the Magic Mouse before you buy it, its very thin and uncomfortable. I had one and it was horrible, ended up getting a Razer Orochi and it was the same price...very happy with it.

My dad died a few weeks ago and he had always wanted to get me a great computer so my mom spent the money and bought me one (i'm 24) for Christmas. I'll cherish it forever.

I actually opened it a week ago though but I love it nonetheless!

My heart goes out to you; the death of a parent is really, really hard to go through. My best friend lost his dad when him and I were 15 (actually tomorrow it will be exactly 10 years ago), and it was and is hard to see what he's gone through. Don't be afraid to open up to special persons as a social support system is critical in the grieving process.

It is awesome to hear you got a MBP as it is without a doubt a great computer and a huge business and educational asset. Your MBP will not only be a great computer for years, but it will also have highly symbolic meaning and you can take pride that you have fulfilled his desire to help you succeed by having the best tools of the 'trade'. Furthermore, it is something that you can always look at, remember, and smile.

Thank you. The good news is that I have a lot of support. The hard part is supporting my mother. I am the financial bread winner now.

The REALLY good news is I got married the last week my Dad was alive :) So he got to see me get married too.

As a system administrator and software developer, the MBP is proving to be the best investment ever. I previously had a 13" 2008 white macbook which was great but the screen size, speed, and resolution were not keeping up like this computer is. The new multitouch gestures are awesome too.

I got a 13" MBP from my family! I'm ecstatic. They told me I can keep it or return it and use the money for a future update.

Now I'm racking my brain trying to make a decision.

That's one of the most heart warming story's I've heard in a while. I'm sorry for your loss pal.
The mac if looked after will last a very long time, I have an old desktop mac that's about 16 years old and it still works!

As for me my only apple thing was my iTunes voucher which I duly spent getting all the games I've been gagging for like real racing 2.
I did also get the prestige pack of black ops COD for my ps3 but I'm a relatives and can't play the game ahhhh, the cars cool though.

what made people get mbp over the update mba?

I was debating over the 13inch Air over the Pro and in the end I ended up having to "deal with" the MacBook Pro I got :D In all honesty it feels like the better choice. I went to best buy to get a cable for my MBP today and I looked at the 13inch Air and dont get me wrong I loved the thinness but the "magic" it had when I had no MB at all was gone. Plus I have a better processor, more memory and a BUILT IN DISC DRIVE OMG /sarcasm.

Well in my eyes the ONLY MBA worth getting for me was the 13" MBA Ultimate.

Which turns out is the same price as the 15" MBP.

I got the MBP because it was expandable. I put a 120GB SSD into my MBP as the boot/application drive (my original HDD went into a USB enclosure for an external drive), and then I put in an optibay. In the optibay I installed a 640GB HDD for my "home" drive. I pointed my home folder to it and store all my stuff on it. I then put my optical drive into a USB external enclosure as well.

To me that setup was PERFECT! It ended up being more money in the end, but I feel I really got a MUCH better machine. The only difference is that it isn't as thin. Better everything else though.

I got one! :D I love it. I opened all my gifts...no Macbook...waited around not really disapointed as I didnt think santa was going to bring me a $1500 dollar laptop! Then I looked over and saw my dad carrying the box to my MacBook Pro. I guess my aunt had paid for it and my whole family as well as the guy at the best buy store who I talked to about getting the MacBook Pro knew the entire time...anyways short little story but I love this thing already! I can't wait to put it to heavy use and travel with it just to see how powerful this thing is in comparison to the subpar laptops Ive had in the past.

Do me a favor and don't drink over it like a lot of people here do.

I got myself a 15" i5 AG as an early present! Friend of mine came over (already several drinks deep) and started slamming his bottle down roughly and spilling right next to where the MBP was sitting. I calmly moved it to a safe location, but inside I knew I would go into cardiac arrested if he effed up my machine. :D I am loving it tho!

I went with the 15" MBP because I believe that I'll get use out of the larger screen and extra power.

The new MBAs really caught my eye this time around (never had much interest before). If I were only consuming content/word processing, etc. I would have given the new MBAs very serious consideration.

My wife got me a 13" MBP. I have been saving for it since my 20" C2D iMac suffered logic board failure about 3 months ago and I've been living in Windows hell since then. I gave her the $500 I had saved up and the rest came from our "general fund." ;-)

As for the MBP over the Air, I need something with enough horsepower to run FCE, CS4, and Lightroom 3 as well as enough hard drive space for pictures, music, etc. I also need Firewire in order to import from my HDV camcorder.

Sorry for you loss. But a very nice story to share. Thank you. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
