Not much of a downside that a restore won't fix.

Ego aside - I consider my time a valuable asset. And it's not worth the headache of dealing with issues such as functions not working, battery drain or other things people report and/or then restoring vs not jailbreaking at all. The positives don't outweigh the energy/time required for me...

Dunno man. Sounds like u didn't know what you were doing. Hater's gonna hate

So the man offers up his personal experience with jailbreaking, and you pull out the tired "haters gonna hate" nonsense? That's just stupid and intellectually lazy.

Whats there to know? if its JB'ed its JB'ed.
Well your answer explains it right there. No, people DO mess up their JBs, which sounds like you DID.

... I would really like MyWI

No interest in Jailbreaking ? Yet you want MyWi? Sounds like you ARE interested to me. That function ALONE is worth Jailbreaking.

You can't get away from them...

While I have jailbroken my iPod Touch, I currently have no interest in jailbreaking my iPhone. Too many of the Cydia apps that I like are incompatible and unstable right now, and there's already stories of jailbreaking disabling the background feature of Skype. Until things stabilize, my phone stays on Apple's stock configuration.

Edit: the one thing that would make me consider jailbreaking immediately is the unlock. I'm planning on traveling outside of the States in a couple of months and unlocking the phone would be great for using it outside of the country and not paying AT&T's ridiculous international charges.

I've tried JBing my 3G numerous times, and every single time I restore it back within a few weeks. I don't see any point to it really other than to say "ooOoOOoo My iPhone is Jail Broken!". I have a 4G wireless hotspot that I use for my laptop...so I don't need the MyFi (which is a battery murderer).

All that the JB really did for me, was to slow my phone down to a point that I wanted to chuck it off the top of my house, raise my 12 ga, and blast it outta the sky.

Me. I have no interest in it. I'm also brand new to the iPhone thing, and to smartphones in general. So there's plenty for me to explore and be excited about. And I have no desire to "mess with" my nice working iPhone 4. Maybe in a few years I'll feel the itch to get adventurous.

No interest. Keeping up with the JB-update-JB-update cycle is a game for patient techies, and I'm no longer a player. I do wish Apple, one fine day, would let me select specific tones for every event, not just phone calls and text messages, and that they'd give us an Android-like notifications. That's all I ask. Don't understand why they don't do it.

Jailbreaking doesn't really do it for me. Honestly i have played around with some jailbroken devices and they just seem to cause more issues than they solve. Bugs galore and constantly needed to reboot (on the iPad anyway).

Apple adds features when the handware they are selling are truely able to handle them without killing the experience.

If I didn't like having my phone in apples walled-in garden, I would have gotten some android Phone.

I am in the other side, I love my Jailbroken phone, it can do so much more for me. Jailbraking is not a must for everyone, if you are 100% happy with stock, there you go, for me the stock firmware is capped too much for my likeness.

I want to have custom ringtones for SMS and Email, I cannot live without SBsettings which in turn allow me to have even better battery life (since i can enable/disable pretty much anything with one click). I can leave my External HD at home since I got 6GB available on my pocket and i can use it as USB HD.

I am playing my old GBA roms which I love (Mario 3, zelda), SMS quick reply is also a must for me.

Being able to storage, email and view any type of file (besides stocks PDF, and office, i can Email, databases, zips, gzips, xmls, png, etc).

All that make my phone complete (to me, totally personal preference). again if you feel your phone and ipad cover all aspect of your life, then enjoy your stock phone

I would love to jailbreak my iPod touch. But what if my iPod breaks and I can't connect it to the computerto restore? What if the jailbreakme site doesn't install right? All those threads about why NOT to jailbreak make me think twice.

And what is mywi??

No interest at all whatsoever in JB'ing my iPhone 4. If I wanted that level of freedeom I would have stuck w/ Android. You pay a premium to be in Apple's walled garden, but I find its worth it. Stuff generally works very well, my identity is not getting stolen from me, and there iTunes to keep everything all tightly integrated.

When I had my Droid I spent gobs of time trying to find all the Apple equivalents.

There are none.
You said " You pay a premium to be in Apple's walled garden, but I find its worth it. "

Sounds like you got corhorn'd by Steve Jobs himself!
Geez man, get the apple cack off your forehead! You sound like a clown!

Why the **** is there even a thread like this in the "iPhone Hacks" section !?!

Did you swallow the wrong pill? This is in the general iPhone section.

I won't be jailbreaking my iP4. I did my 3G for background wallpapers osx dock and to be able to change the sms tone.

SBsettings was useful but with the the dock and speed of the iP4 is not needed.

I was tired of waiting for the go ahead from the dev team to update. And I was constanly wondering when my phone was acting strange, was it the jailbreak? Cydia apps? or the phone or iTunes apps?

iP4 does everything I want from a phone as is from Apple.

I for sure do. I've hated using my non jb ip4. Finaly have bitesms and lock info back. Next year I will deffinatly wait untill a jailbreak is out before I buy another iPhone.

I have no interest in the results of jailbreaking. Unlocking on the other hand, is something I am very keenly waiting for.

It's always seemed like more trouble than it's worth.
I thought the same exact thing....until the recent jailbreak where it literally took all of five minutes to complete it.

Yes, I have an iPad (But I have jailbroken it) but there aren't many uses for the iPad really. There are no 'killer' apps for the iPad on Cydia available unlike those for the iPhone.
Alone, I'd say Categories and Backgrounder - at least until the iPad gets iOS 4 on it. Pro-Switcher Alpha looks really good and I hope Apple integrates the fast app switching/multitasking in a similar fashion. That's it I'd say right now, but I haven't gone through everything in Cydia due to being a newbie myself.

I feel like it's brought new life to both my iPad and iPhone 3GS, and though I admit the iPad jailbreak still seems a bit buggy, I find myself happy with it overall.

No real interest. While the idea of FaceTime over 3G interests me - it's not enough to "risk" the downsides of JBing at this time. And I do think ATT will eventually allow FaceTime over their network anyway

JB is not for everyone.
Some people should stay far far away from it.
The "risk" of downsides of JB are for those that dont know what they're doing and installing things on their device without knowing or researching them first or try to install every single thing on cydia.
The JB and some things you can do after that can improve the user experience significally.
I know I will always JB my iphone and will wait for a JB untill I update to newer firmware.
And BTW, this is the hacks section, some of you might be lost :)
