WTF HAX!!

I don't know how people live without SBSettings. If that is all I could get with a Jailbreak, I would do it just for that app alone. Everything else is gravy.;)

You don't really lose anything by doing it, you only have to gain like a million different things..

Sounds like people here are scared/paranoid and probably in denial about it. I used to think I didn't want to "screw mine up" either but now it looks about ten times better than it did with a couple hours of work. Not to mention the free tethering, hotspotting, the live wallpaper, the Wi-Fi syncing, and other limitless customization options.

Oh well. Some people like their limited choices I guess. Which is fine.

I don't think it's that people LIKE limited choice - it's just that some are unwilling to trade some of the benefits of jailbreaking for stability. You have to admit, many issues do pop up, and while most can be fixed, some people just have no desire to deal with them.

I guess. It's definitely more stable than it used to be,though. Now whenever I see a problem, there's usually a fix for it that I can find by Googling or searching the problem. Only one problem remains on my phone and I dunno how to fix it.

:(

But it's just a discolored status bar when I go into Photos.

I had to JB my iPad for Backgrounder.

I did JB my 3G years ago and found it to be somewhat slower, but once I turned off all my Winterboard crud, it was much better.

Now that I've got the iPhone4, there is no noticeable slowdown whatsoever. As far as the incompatibility goes, you just need to proceed slowly and make sure you test everything out after you install it. Don't do like I did and install 10 different Cydia packages and then have no idea which one jacked up the device.

Just having control over your phone is worth the JB. Add in the fact that it's now a wireless hotspot and I couldn't live without it. I find the the 3g tethering is faster than the free wifi at most hotels.

Also, it seems that the Cydia experience is much-improved from 2 years ago when I last used it. Much more organized and less buggy.

I've jailbroke my iPhone 3GS like three times. Every time I did it, it slowed it down a lot and caused a lot of glitches with images. I would reformat and try it again just to make sure some of the files weren't corrupt. Each time this happens, no matter what I do.

So I stay away from jailbreaking, but not for that reason. Apple gives me everything I want in a phone so there is no need to jailbreak for me.

The iPhone 4 is my first iPhone so I have no previous jailbreaking experience. For as long as I knew I'd be moving to AT&T and getting the iP4, I knew I didn't want to jailbreak it. But when this jailbreak came out the other day, a friend convinced me to try it. And I was right about the reasons I don't like it. It's messy, unofficial, prone to problems, and unnecessary for what I use my iPhone for. So as I'm typing this post I'm restoring my phone, lol.

ive been hacking things for as long as I can remember. I love to personalize stuff. I wanted an iPhone but had a HATRED for AT&T for the longest time over past experiences. So my introduction to the iPhone was when apple cut the 2g 4gb down to $299 no contract. I walked in same day and bought 2 with the full intention of hacking them to use on my T-Mobile plan. I used that 2g until the 3GS came out. So I was introduced to the iPhone along side jailbreaking. Now I normally wont get the new iPhone until a JB is available. cause I need it to be jailbroken. I agree its tough waiting months after a new firmware comes out to upgrade but once you get used to using something one way its tough to go back.

I loved my iPhone 4 it was close to the point that I didnt need a JB. but BiteSMS, iBlacklist, SBSettings and Facetime over 3G is just too much walk away from. Plus MyWi. I was making do with Handylight but the new MyWi 4.0 is ridiculously good on battery.

I jailbroken iPhone is twice as good than without. The key to jailbreaking and even updating your firmware is to be PATIENT and make sure everything is running right before you jump in and do it.

There are many who dont have any patience at all and that is why you have bad experiences.

I am loving my iPhone 4 so much that I have bought almost $50 worth of apps within the first week, and I have pretty much never bought anything for a phone before. I also had a very bad experience with my first JB'ed iPhone 2G. So much so that I went back to my blackberry and hated iPhones.

With everyone seeming like they are JBing their phones, is there anyone else that does not care for it at all? Anyone have any terrible JB experiences?

Mine simply made my 2G worse in every way. Battery life went down the drain, everything got slow, everything would crash, every update from Apple was a super pain, I felt like I had to do this tedious update/jb cycle every month, etc. Even though they say a restore brings it back to normal, I still felt like the phone was never the same after.

Just because it was crap back then does not mean it's crap now.

Back in the days of 2G, Jailbreaking wasn't very user friendly. So I understand why now you avoid it like the plague. Fast forward to today and all it takes is going to www.jailbreakme.com, push the slider and in a minute or two you're done. As for battery life and crashing, your talking about the iPhone 2G. You have the iP4 bigger/better battery, better hardware and better OS.

If it's not your bag, it's not your bag. But you're missing out on some awesome functionality like SBSettings, Activator and 3G Unrestrictor just to name a few.

I have zero interest. I keep up with what's going on because I have friends that JB, jack their stuff up then come to me for help. lol

iOS4 took care of the only reasons I previously jailbroke.

Skype backgrounding
Skype over 3G
Folders
Wallpaper behind Icons

if you don't want to Jailbreak then don't it's not for everybody. My only question would be before you knock it have you tried it? but other then that if you don't want to JB/UL then don't. Funny though how a bunch of you will come running in when the next iPhone comes out hey I'm selling my phone I want more money how do I jb/ul my phone. any way if your not interested in JB or Hacking in General why even waste time in this section.

Just curious, do you guys go on the Trip Advisor forums and post about how you'd rather stay at home? Or do you log on to the Daily Kos to to create diaries about how apathetic you are? How about TV? Do you go on FanForum and post about how much nicer it is to curl up with a good book?

I really can't understand why anyone would create a thread like this.

I agree. It's like posting MILF pictures on the NAMBLA forum.

This. Now this thread is in the iPhone hacks subforum, why is it still alive.

This thread is a sad support group full of people trying to make themselves feel better for staying out of TROUBLE and being GOOD.

I jailbroke just so that I could set custom SMS tones. The only app that I installed was open shs so that I could copy the tones. I was happy for a day and then i started to notice the slowness and then my wifi quit working. I am restoring as a new phone right now and I plan to never jailbreak again.
