Oh my DAYS. What bitrate do you encode to??? I'm on 7,045 songs and 40.12GB... doesn't iTunes lag like hell with a library that huge? I hope you've got it all backed up!

The majority is encoded MP3 at 256 or higher. iTunes doesn't lag at all. My PB 17" 1.33 has 2 GB of RAM. The only time iTunes may hiccup is when the laptop is churning through a huge Photoshop file at the same time music's playing. It only hiccups if I try to drag the iTunes window while PS is processing. I have the whole library backed up on DVD and live on 2 separate 500 GB external hard drives. If one HD goes down the other one will still be live.

I just started ripping all my cds and transfering music to my other computer(s) and so far I am at 8.87gigs. I feel so worthless in the itunes family :( .
Don't feel worthless. I slowly built up my archive by bringing a stack of 10 CDs a day to work with me. I ripped 'em all in the background throughout the day. A few months of that and I was set.

excluding podcasts and songs that in are my library, but mothballed, i currently have 14,230 songs at 75GB worth 41 days 7 hours 9 mins 8 sec.

and i've spent the entire year listening to every single one of them, no repeats. at the moment, i have about 5200 to go.

There was someone here on MR who had 750 GB of MP3!!!!!
Those guys usually have their entire library in Lossless. Which is a complete waste of hard drive space. I'm all in AAC. Which explains why myself and a guy who posted after me both have about 30GB, but I have double the amount of songs.

Daniel.

Is it just me, or did few people listen to as much music before iTunes came along? I never had any particular interest in music before, and I only really liked generic radio type stuff. Since iTunes, I've built my music knowledge up to a ridiculous level and spend almost all my time listening to it in one way or another, either on my computer as I write or on my iPod. Apple has a knack for kickstarting this sort of thing... how many people made home movies before iMovie came along, made music before GarageBand, used a digital camera seriously before iPhoto?

I'm a music junkie. 41961 items, 156.5 days, 313.33 GB

That's paired down to just the music I like and I can sing EVERY word. My mind is a steel trap for music - a freekin' encyclopedia if you will.

Getting ready to digitize my 1000+ record collection over the winter. Must have more songs in the daily shuffle.

well thats quite a small fortune. dont you wish you only a fraction of that on music and bought a yacht with the money saved lol

Strange as it may seem a yacht would never bring me the same happiness that music does. To me music is more than just catchy tunes - it's an elemental force of life.

16031 Tracks, 49.6 days, 78.12GB.

All of it ripped from CDs. A little under 1400 CDs in all (that's almums, EPs, singles, and promo CDs). I have it all stored on a portable 250GB Firewire drive. I would take about 50 CDs in to work with me each day, and while I was doing my work, just swap out CD after CD while it ripped in the background. Took me a couple months to rip everything, but am very happy now that it's done.

I've got about 300 vinyl LPs that I'd like to transfer as well, but that's going to be much more time consuming, as it requires a more watchful eye, plus the post rip clean-up and separating into tracks, etc.

What sucks is that it got too big to sync to my 60GB iPod:mad: now everything has to be done manually
I ended up going through and rating my music. Then set up an automatic playlist called favorites, that only has songs rated ** or better. I then use this to do an auto sync to my iPod. If i feel like adding somethng else to my iPod, I just need to change it's rating and it automatically gets added during the next sync.

songs in itunes library

7104 songs 36gb 19 days 22 hours

The vast majority of the songs are done at 192. I tried doing some at 320. But this high compression is not compatible with the ROKR (Wife's phone).

99.9% from my CD collection and my wife's.

lllllllll

Not the largest, but...

20,992 songs (down from 21XXX after deleting all of the duplicates). It's over 64 days of music and 117.36 GB. Many from my cd collection, many from emusic. My ripped files are all 192 VBR AACs. The emusic tracks sound great, btw. I don't love all of it, but I love most of it. I'm not a DJ, I just have a problem.

If emusic had a plan that was more than 90 DL/month I'd upgrade in a second. As it is I have a Save for Later list in the triple digits (albums).

I lost a 40gig drive full of blues/jazz awhile ago... so now I'm at:
25879 items, 69.9 days, 122.9 GB.

You carry your original musci library with you? Why?

11.8 GB of Phish :p

NICE!

I got around 30 gigs of Phish and counting, all AAC 128. I would love to re rip my CD's, tapes and minidiscs at around 320 or lossless, but I'm too damn lazy.

I love having all my shows at the click of a mouse, makes all those years hunting down tapes seem absurd...do you go to Etree a lot ?
