Just ordered an SE the other day, it'll be replacing my 6. If the SE never came into existence, I would have upgraded to the 7 in September. But now I'll be sticking with the SE no matter what the 7 has, and I'd like to stick with the 4" form factor in the future.
The SE represents two important elements in Apple's thinking.

1) That they continue to vacillate, demonstrating their internal struggle with choices. Kind of like parents that don't trust their children. Never one to value customer feedback in a way that would truly benefit them, Steve Jobs incessant effort to brainwash the faithful into believing he was a know all genius succeeded brilliantly. Once customers were trained to be passive and compliant, Steve called all the shots.

2) Now firmly ensconced in the Tim Cook years, Apple caves in, provides choices and continues to amass an embarrassment of riches.

MY excitement surrounding iPhones is long gone. And that's not bad FOR ME
fixed for you

With the true innovation, change and refinements happening in the Google Camp, I'm using my satisfactory iP6S.Plus as a suitable secondary device to my stellar Nexus 6P.
Lol... iPhone 6S Plus inferior to a "stellar" Nexus 6P ? ok....
So you basically took the occasion to take Google in an iPhone thread. Interesting.
Doing that on an Apple centric forum has a very specific definition...
Apple's time in the sun is waning, they can't be expected to lead forever.
They are still leading....

I get every new release so this year shall be no different. I'll preorder and wait.
Same for me with a small difference : I'm not preordering. I usually wait 2-3 months after release to buy the new model (usually around Christmas time).

Why are you even on this forum, then? People like you baffle me. I mean, you're deliberately quoting someone who's happy with their choice just to tell them how much you think Apple sucks. You're entitled to your opinion, but why post it on a site dedicated to Apple? Go over to /r/android.
because he feel the need to enlighten us poor Apple customer, don't you know ? :D
How do you call someone speaking about the Nexus 6P in a thread that's about the iPhone 7 ? Wait.... I can't really answer ;)

I'm curious about the brainwash statement. Just hear me out. If you think about the 40-70 million iPhones sold each quarter, of those buyers how many do you think watched the events? Is 1% even too high an estimate? I estimate I have 100 close friends with iPhones. If 5 have watched an event or viewed a forum I'd be shocked.

On TV, how often do you see an Apple commercial of truly any meaning other than some representation of a moment in life. However, Samsung has sponsored the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the Oscars major sporting events, targeted Apple in ad after ad putting iPhones down and attacking those who use them. They infiltrated your mind with 'the next big thing is here' every time you turned on the television.

My assumption is the average consumer started with an iPhone, is familiar with it, and therefore isn't tempted to leave.

Based on the few leaks we have seen I am not terribly excited. It's all but certain that we lose the headphone jack, which I use daily to this day. I'll have to gain something great to make that sacrifice.
Quite sure you still will be able to hear music not the iPhone 7 ;)
Let's see what they will bring to us.

I think it will be something very special

Internals may be special, but design will be mundane.

I do believe Apple has something very big planned for the new iPhone 7. I'd pre-order today if it were possible.

I'm the opposite. I've seen nothing under the Tim Cook era to have high expectations. When they do try to innovate, (MacBook and Apple Watch) the reception was mixed at best. Or they make good products worse (iMac and Mini) Every other 'new launch' has been essentially just been offering different sizes (bigger/smaller phones, bigger iPads). Plus the smartphone is a pretty mature platform, making it harder to really do something unique or different.

Maybe they can pull a rabbit out of the hat, but more likely it's stuff we've already heard rumored - wireless charging (requiring a mat), some form of waterproofing, dual camera, faster, thinner and lightning earbuds. Oh, they may take a page from the iPad and start the base memory at 32 gig....but up the price for the base model. With people (at least in the US) using NEXT and edge, that extra $50 will come out to a couple of bucks a month that most customers won't notice.

Unfortunately your reading comprehension is also failing you. At _no_ time have I ever said Apple sucks.

Right, you're busy saying that they're not innovative, that they're just cashing in, etc, etc, because you think they're awesome? Your opinion is clear regardless of whether you typed out that Apple sucks or not.

Also, you're talking around the question: Apple no longer makes you happy, so why are you here? It's just weird that someone who doesn't like what a manufacturer is doing would spend time on forums dedicated to their products.

I bought every iPhone upon its release since the original. But Apple’s now an old conservative, very predictably cautious, mass market device maker. With almost zero incentive to create a fresh contemporary design, they're busy cashing in on their best work of the past. A money grab so big they'll be able to enjoy success for years, independent of the products that follow.
And the problem is...they meet the needs of their buyers with great success.

Gee man.

Yup. What's wrong with preference? Apple simply didn't give me a choice before, which is why I got a 6 and would have got a 7. But now I have a choice of getting a near-flagship 4" iPhone, and I took it.

I think iOS 10's reveal in June will demonstrate how ambitious Apple plans will be within the next year.

iOS X, iPhone 7, A10 & M10 chips, the 10th iPhone in the series - there's a lot of milestones this particular release will be hitting. I hope Apple give a device that'll force my hand into upgrading my 6S.

I'm going to be slightly irritated if (when if I'm being realistic) they make the phone thinner instead of increasing battery life. My 6S usually makes it though the day, but sometimes I have to regulate my usage if I know I won't be near a charger. It's irritating some days, but I can tolerate it because I love the unified experience that Apple provides.

That being said, since I'm an upgrade-every-year kind of guy I'll end up with the 7 either way.

Team Plus always; looking forward to iPhone 7 plus or Pro or whateva Apple calls the 5'5 inch. I can't deviate from the size since it replaced the kindle 2yrs ago!

I am getting the SE, i don't think there will be a 4" version of the 7. I have the 6s at the moment but prefer the smaller 4" phones.

First, I prepare to sell my newest iphone (6s plus presently) to get top dollar.
Then, I wait for the release of the newest iPhone model.
Finally, I let all the hype die down, and scoop up the next iPhone at a price that nearly equals what I sold the last iPhone for, saving me money that I use to spend on other frivolous things I really don't need

If you buy it on the payment plan, then even if there is a 4" 7, you can just upgrade without missing a beat with no negative financial impact. I think it's the least likely scenario that there will be a new 4" 7 in 6 months, but there likely will be in a year. It will also probably cost $599, not $399.

I am waiting for the next phone sized phone (ie SE size) released with current gen tech (not one generation old tech like the SE).

I speak with certain knowledge, leaving all doubt behind that everyone reading this, except Tim Cook, has to wait for the iPhone 7. You know why I know this? Because the iphone 7 isn't out yet. Tim, however, already has one of the early build prototypes.

What? The SE has the current generation 6s tech. In the meantime what 4" tech will you be using instead, and how old will that be?
