Started playing it last night. Loving it so far. Controls take some getting used to at first, but work very well. Haven't noticed any framerate issues so far. There is some screen tear when you're turning really fast though, but no big deal to me.

Not sure if that whole "twist" part was really necessary though. Probably would have been way cooler if the whole game was just "really" set in the crusade setting. So far, for me it kills the mood/atmosphere whenever it "pulls out" of the game. Will have to see how it goes... I wonder if it had been planned like this since the beginning, or if it was just some spontaneous "bright" idea later on in development. Somehow I have a feeling it was added much later. It feels gimmicky, tacked on.

As for revealing it so early in the game - why does everyone (most reviews) seem so bothered with that? It's the whole setting of the game, it's even revealed by just looking at the manual. It's not even handled like a big shocking surprise, it's just the game's setting. I kind of wish it wasn't, but that has nothing to do with the fact that it's revealed right away.

Do you understand the concept of SPOILERS. ?

Without playing the game and without any previous knowledge of the game other than there are sci-fi overtones, it doesn't take more than a small bit of intelligence we work out from your post that the game is in fact set in the future and the whole crusade thing is nothing more than a mere hologram style 'startrek holodeck' scenario.

Thanks for letting us know

It's also revealed in the first five minutes of the game and is mentioned in nearly every review. ;)

btw MRU

In Super Mario Galaxy, Peach gets kidnapped by Bowser.

:D

Not to mention gamespot video review revealed the whole damn thing....those guys are idiots....IGN reviewed it without even getting into that:rolleyes: (IGN guys are stupid sometimes as well)

The game is cool so far but tell me this guys....how can you strip someone from their fighting abilities/skills?...I know I'm being harsh but damn. The game is beautiful though and it shines on the PS3(notice how IGN retracted that framerate crap)

Its still a solid games the futher I get into it....the hype just killed it.

Bless

Some people here should check out the Doctor Who thread on the forum. The Brits hide the spoilers in white till the Americans get chance to watch it. It's the golden land I tell ya but gamers just aren't that conscientious ;) or just some of them here. I had to drop out of my Resident Evil 4 thread which even said "don't post spoilers, I haven't player it yet".

I'm about 4 hours into it on the 360.

I wouldn't worry too much about spoilers for the game. As has been said the spoiler that most people complain about literally happens at the beginning of the game. So yeah it might suck to know before hand but it's almost akin to knowing the name of the game is Assassin's Creed.

I've noticed minor graphical issues but they haven't detracted from the game for me at all. You'll see a little texture acting weird here and there but it's so rare and often times amounts to the space of the skin on one finger for a split second. I haven't noticed any graphical tearing or anything. One review I read said the levels took 5 minutes to load. Not so. The load time is on par with most games. Plus loading is so infrequent it honestly wouldn't matter. I spent well over 2 hours in one area.

The controls are excellent once you get a feel for them. I'm running through crowds, across rooftops, through merchant stands, and scaling walls like nobodies business. I feel like Aladdin in the beginning of that movie. It's fairly easy to ditch guards if need be.

The fighting is decent. Usually you'll be surrounded by 5 or 6 guards and while normally one will only attack you at a time they will switch off. It's pretty easy to block them but they do get a blow in here or there. The nice thing about the fighting is you can play as you wish; cautious only countering their blows or just go in swinging. Of course I've been known to take out a guy or two prior to being found out by a swift blade through the chest.

It's actually really fun to just run around the city occasionally taking out a guard and letting them give chase. If you get bored, go be a nuisance for a bit then get back to the game.

It certainly can feel repetitive... go to a city, save the citizens, eavesdrop, pickpocket, climb the towers, etc. But I notice the challenges getting slowly more difficult. I've been known to take out a guard and attempt to climb towers while the guards are throwing rocks at me.

I won't say this is a must have buy of the season but it's a decent game for what it is. It's certainly an assassination game and that's about all you do. It's more about blending in with the crowd than not being seen. So far I'm really enjoying it. It's a nice variation from Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia, Thief games. The game is what you make of it. If you want to go threw the game swords blazing feel free. But I'm trying (for the missions anyway) to be discreet and cause as little trouble as possible. Between missions I get my "free for all" run going a bit to ease the tension.

It's not game of the year I don't think but it's worth playing by all means.

It's not a spoiler. It's revealed in the manual BEFORE YOU EVEN START PLAYING THE GAME. It's the main framework of the game, not a shocking "oh wow, so THAT'S how it is!" scenario.

If you bothered quoting the rest of my post as well, it would show that I mentioned this already... That's my whole point about the "revealing the twist early" critiques....IT IS NOT A TWIST! IT IS THE SETTING OF THE GAME! THEY NEVER TRY TO FOOL YOU INTO BELIEVING OTHERWISE AND THEN SURPRISE YOU! THEY DON'T MAKE IT A SECRET! THEY INTRODUCE THE SETTING IN THE VERY FIRST SECTION OF THE GAME!

And it had been mentioned in the previews weeks before the game release as well.

Everyone who somehow DIDN'T know this should be *thankful* to be told, because it gives the game a slightly different character, and the buyer should know what he's spending his money on.

Alright, I'm reviving this thread to post a few of my impressions.

First off, the twist is completely ridiculous. Why, oh why did they have to do that? It totally destroys any hope of immersion. I remember watching the trailer/demo being played by the creators, and noticing the little "glitches" in the camera. I called it right then, prayed I was wrong, and was bummed to be right. Sad, because it's all completely unnecessary.

Semi spoiler/complaint: Yeah, thanks a ton for pulling me out of the 12th century so I can go get in a bed to go to sleep. RIVETING. So am I actually controlling my ancestor through this machine? Wait, I'm controlling my ancestor's memories embedded in my own DNA? So did this happen? Or is it re-happening? STUPID.

The controls are ass. Neat concept but in my opinion it idn't pan out with the 360's triggers. Maybe it's better on the Dualshock. I hate the camera.

The gameplay, as others have said, is hyper repetitive. Come on man, change it up!! Idea: Don't you think that maybe after the 1st assassination in a city, people would be on the lookout for a dude dressed like a scholar, but runs around on rooftops? It would have been cool to have to go get a set of Brown scholar's robes with a big cross on them for when you are in Acre. Maybe do a side assassination of a corrupt friar or something. Hell, that's a pretty basic idea, and it would have been very welcomed just to do something different before a major assassination.

Climbing is really fun though, and surprisingly hasn't gotten old.

I'm a big, big story guy. I've read the Halo novels, and am not ashamed of it! I like immersion, and I usually give video games' crappy stories a pass, as I just enjoy games. That said, I have no idea what's going on with this story, and I've assassinated 6 of the 9 people on my list.

The characters talk a lot, and I can't discern what's going on. Everyone has a great middle eastern accent, or an English accent, except for the main character. All I know is, dude sounds like he was voiced by the lead programmer doing his best early-twenties angst. The main character's voice destroys whatever little immersion I was clinging to. I wouldn't have been surprised if he would have said, "My bad Bro" after getting stripped of his rank. It's ridiculous.

All of this negativity, and I'm still playing it. I guess I'm just playing it to finish it, but I won't be going for mega-achievements or anything. This game could have been one of the greatest. They should have kept it for another year I guess.

I rented it. Has anyone else noticed or had their 360 freeze or stutter throughout certain parts of the game? It has been quite annoying when it does freeze as it forgets the checkpoints and boots you back to a standard "starting" point.

Have to agree with most of the comments above. It would, IMO, have been a better game experience if you were entirely immersed in that timeframe, pity, though who knows what twists they'll add to the end? (The storyline premise is eerily similar to one I wrote some time ago actually, but I bet my ending is better! :p)

The gameplay is repetitive, though the thing with all these free-roaming games is a lot of the fun is just roaming around, exploring, causing mayhem when and where possible! What disappointed me is just how scripted everything is so far. Wouldn't it be more fun if you could pickpocket anyone, not just selected targets, and use the money you steal. For the poor, of course! ;)

The quality of the graphics and (especially) the character animations is superb; as is the amount of detail in the cities. How they managed to make such large cities without the design being extremely repetitive, I don't know.

The voice acting generally is pretty good, apart from the main character who seems utterly out of place. Unless, of course, that too is explained later in the story. With a story premise like this, who knows?

I've had no stutters, but it did freeze last night for the first time. Thankfully I now have an 360 remote so I can still shut it down and boot up again without having to get out of my chair! ;)

Completely off-topic (well mostly) but I too have had the 360 remote for about 8 months or so and that thing eats batteries like a mutha. I was wondering if you have had the same experience.

My 2cents about AC is that this is what I felt the combat in Prince of Persia should have been closer too. I hated the gay-ass retarded puzzle jumping BS in that game. I know I will probably get flamed for saying that now but I figure why not, I already I cant say anything bad about nintendo I might as well start branching out am I right?;)

Battery wise - the only thing I use the remote for is for shutting off the Xbox when it freezes, and for playing the occasional HD-DVD. So I've used it for maybe 4 months or so and haven't replaced the batteries yet.

The combat in AC is pretty simple, which I think is why it works. Aim in the relevant direction, hit or grab. So you can concentrate on what you're doing, not how to do what you want to do (a nightmare with the Wii version of PoP). The same goes for running around & jumping, in AC it's relatively low-risk (few 'pits of infinite depth') which makes it more fun and less stressful running and jumping from roof to roof.

Sixaxis

Is there anything to make the sixaxis work with Assassins creed 1?

Sixaxis is paired because I can playMafia II with it.

Anyone?

Thanks in advance.
