I really wish Apple kept the 5.8" diagonal size. It felt like the right size to me.

Important to keep in mind that the 16 and 16 Pro are a good deal cheaper than their embiggened counterparts.

I'm happy with the iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 17.7

Once they bring back iPhone models close to the size of iPhone 5/5c/5s/SE 2016 or iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini but using Silicon Carbon battery, that will be the time I will go back to a smaller form factor.

I stay with the SE 3. After seeing that it was getting discontinued, I decided to get a second one with 256GB of storage. I’m staying with the iPhone SE for at least 2 more years. Perhaps more, depending on the iOS support.

However, I’ve been tempted to get the 16e. I think I wouldn’t mind upgrading to that form factor. But for now, I’m happy with my SE 3: it is compact, it is light, it is fast and responsive. A great smartphone!

Well I got a 16 yesterday, coming from a 15 pro max. I have been so tired of the bulk and weight.

Honestly though, I don’t think I’m gonna keep it. It’s a pretty drastic change, and as much as I love it in theory (and even in hand), I doubt I’ll be completely happy with it. Though I use my iPad a lot of the time at home, when in bed I always use my phone for crosswords and stuff, and I guess I like the size more than I realized. Gonna play around with it a few more days though.

But I’m likely hanging onto the 15 pro max and seeing what the 17s offer. Since the smaller pro got a little bigger last time, I’m gonna see how it is in the fall. And maybe with them going back to aluminum, the max can still be a consideration.

I am stuck between two decisions with all of this. I need the larger screen because of old eyes but prefer a smaller phone.
Don't know what to do to be honest and I might have to sell one to force my hand.

I know it will be a compromise, but what about something in the middle like 16e? it’s quite big but not as heavy as the other models with a better battery life.

I thought I was being clever when I bought my father a 12 Pro Max for his eyes. He hated it, said it dug into his junk while he was trying to golf (and, unbeknownst to me, got lazik).

Handed him my 13 Mini, said "how's this?" and I never got it back

would you consider the 16 pro maybe a good compromise?

I am currently running my second Samsung Galaxy Fold device, in this case the Fold6. These are big, heavy devices, but the larger fold out screen is a game changer. I don't see myself ever going back to a single screen, smaller phone.

When I don't want to, or can't, carry my Fold6 with me, I have it paired with Samsung's Watch6, which acts as a full remote extension to the Fold6; it can place and receive calls, read and send messages, etc. If the Samsung device that the Watch6 is paired to is on, anywhere in the world, the Watch6 is treated by my carrier (T-Mobile) as a full extension line.

All in all, a very nice setup!

I was not always a Samsung user. I was a "dyed in the wool" iPhone person from the time the iPhone first debuted, but by the time of the iPhone 4s, when Android devices were dramatically increasing their screen size, I was itching for a larger screen. Still, I bought the iPhone 5, since it was the last iPhone that Steve Jobs was involved with. When the 5s came out however, I had had it. I wanted a larger screen and I was going to get it. I replaced my iPhone 5 with a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, then the largest screen you could buy, and I have never looked back. I now find iOS so restrictive that I don't see myself ever going back to iPhones, even if Apple does bring out the rumored folding iPhone. It will still run iOS, and that is enough to count it out for me.

I hade the same dilemma. What I ended up doing was I went with the smaller phone (16 Pro) and then for the "Display Zoom" setting I chose larger text instead of Default and increased the text size as well and it has worked just fine for me. I also increased "Page Zoom" in the Safari settings to 115%.

My view is that I'd like Apple to either produce a smaller phone that is less of a burden to carry around, or empower the iPad to pair and setup an Apple Watch.

I'm not an obsessive phone user. I use it to occasionally communicate-- a few texts, and to occasionally check email if I'm away from my computer, and even less occasionally to reply to it. I'll use Maps when I'm on the move. 99% of that can be done on my watch with cellular, if my watch didn't need a phone to support it.

When I consume media, I typically choose my iPad with its superior display size. When I have something to requires more than 10 words, I'll find my computer or keyboard for the iPad where I can type comfortably.

The current iPhone lineup isn't really well sized for what I need-- too big to be comfortably portable, too small to be a good interface. The Mini has worked well for me, but that's gone now too.

This is me too. Folding phones seem like a good solution but Apple doesn’t make one yet

I’ve decided I think I am going back to smaller. I got my refurbished 14 Pro Max last year, first big phablet I’ve owned, and I hate its weight, but my hand aches sometimes when typing on it. I have an old XR I have been testing and it does seem I can use that a lot better. I did see the 16 Plus yesterday and liked it but it was held down so I couldn’t pick it up. I will try the 16 Plus and iPhone Air properly first though as my eyes really do appreciate the bigger screen.

I think I will wait to see if the the 17 standard iPhone has Pro Motion and decide what to do from there, or get a refurb 16 Pro.

Upgraded from an 2nd generation SE to an iPhone 15 Pro Max last November. Amazed I tolerated the small screen for so long. Definitely won't be downsizing.

My wife has arthritis in her hands and has the iPhone 16 Pro. She moved up to that from the iPhone 11 about 6 months ago. The heavier weight and different size has messed up her hands so badly that she is actually downgrading to the iPhone 16e.

She also has an iPhone 15 that is a corporate issued work device. She can use this device all day with no issue.
