I used to do film/tv extra work. Worked on Star Wars Epsode 1 The Phantom Menace, and met Ewan McGregor, Liam Neeson, George Lucas, Natalie Portman etc, etc.

Worked on a couple of other films and shows, and met various other people too.

I'm also a TV presenter, soooo .....can I add myself??? (I've looked in the mirror on the odd occasion). :D

A show called ShortCutters (SKY 146). Its not the most widely watched show ever, but it has a small cult following. Showcases short films, animations etc. etc. People send 'em in, we review 'em. Simple really.

The most famous? That's an easy one. Nelson Mandela :)

He sat three rows in front of me at The Three Tenors concert in Pretoria in 1999.

When I was about 20 or so (23 years ago) I went to church at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Pasadena. The guest preacher was Desmond Tutu. He's been my idol every since.

I quote you because they have ties...close ties.

The Queen!

At one of the only race (horse) meetings i've been to at Ascot, I was about ten feet from her. The people around started clapping when she appeared from the building to get into her Bentley and she useed the regal wave.

Oh I forgot Randy Andy Duke of York at the Yorkshire Show a couple of years ago I was sat on a step enjoying a sandwich and he literally step over me. I was eye level and about a foot from his royal crotch!

Shorter than I thought he'd be.

a soap bubble covered bouncy castle?
What more can I say? I was there, Del'boy was there, the castle was there, inflated and covered in bubbles.....what were we supposed to do??

I saw QEII (the lady) back in her 1976 Silver jubilee year. She drove past slowly in a very big Rolls Royce. She looked very small even then.

I also saw Lady Thatcher at quite close quarters at a book signing shortly after she left office. Close enough to notice she had very hairy legs.

Did a recent trip to France and while round the pool noticed one young woman who'd made a poor choice of bikini. It seems some bikinis are made from material suitable for getting wet and swimming in, some are made from lighter weight materials which a fine for basking in the sun but you wouldn't want to get them wet to save your blushes............and then some like this woman are made of material that Kleenex regard as too flimsy for use in their tissues. It was this last type that the young lady was wearing as she left the pool:eek:

Now as odd as it may seem my first thought was "what possess a woman to take such care in trimming some parts of her body hair, which except when swimming will never be on show in public, into attractive shapes yet doesn't make her think anything of the 4" underarm hair hanging soggy from her pits!"

Michael Schumacher nearly ran over my foot in Albert Park, Melbourne (not at 200mph though). Had a chat with Bryan Ferry & his family, nice guy.

I was standing right next to some major celebrity in Buenos Aires airport, but didn't have a clue who it was. (The reason I know she was a celebrity was because there were dozens of people running up to get her autograph, and take photos of her and lots of teens screaming.. and then this poor mug right next to her with absolutely no idea what was going on).

When I was about five or six the Queen came to Hull – our class was marched down to the main road (a walk of about quarter of an hour), where we spent the next half-hour or so waiting until her car sped past. She probably didn't notice the string of slightly unimpressed urchins at the side of the road, frantically waving their little plastic Union Jacks, but still...

EDIT: Thinking about it, I can actually tell you the exact date – 17 July 1981. It would have been when she came up here to officially open the Humber Bridge. I would have been five at the time. :p

depends on your point of view. Probably Gorbachev. Stormin' Norman was the most impressive though. Also met plenty of actors and musos - mostly due to travel.

I still think Skippy wins this thread tho'! :)

That is pretty much all I can think of off hand who may qualify as "famous". Generally "most famous" depends on who you are talking to and what the subject is (for example, my wife tells people that I "know" John Milnor... which is a bit of a stretch).

Plus it depends on what circles you hang around in... obviously I spent a lot of time in track and math/physics, so I've had more opportunities to meet famous people in those areas. I'm sure I've met a lot of famous ballet people (my sister danced professionally), but I don't know ballet enough to know who's who in those circles beyond Baryshnikov (who is also famous outside of ballet).
