I'll consider buying the M4 MBP to upgrade from my M1 MBP if there's a good deal. Now that the M5 is out at the same starting price, there should be some M4s available for a bit cheaper. Otherwise M4 vs M5 makes no difference to me.

I was going to go for the M4 Max 16” MBP to replace my M2 15” MBA.

I like the MBA (screen size, general size, etc) but hate the inability to use two external screens.

If the M4s come down in price because of the M5 that will be good.

And besides, the only M5 I want has S62 power with 5.0 litre and 4 doors.

It's tempting. I have an M1 Pro MacBook Pro 16 that's four years old and is still great but I wanted a 14. I bought a Lenovo Yoga three months ago at 14 inches and three pounds and it's great. The M5 MacBook Pro sounds great but I'd really love the M6 14 with hopefully a weight of 3 pounds, the loss of the notch, an OLED display, a USB-A port (wishlist). A 4k screen would be nice too.

I'm happy with the performance of the M1 so the CPU/GPU isn't as much a draw for me as the other stuff.

I just got an M4 Pro to replace my M1 Pro so I am sitting this one out. Maybe I will upgrade for the OLED redesign.

Thinking I might upgrade my Macbook pro M4, 16gb, 1Tb, nano texure display (bought in Jan 25) to the M5 24gb, 1tb nano display now instead of later.

I salary package my laptops (pre tax) in Australia and I don't think I can wait until May for the M5 pros.....

Would there be a massive improvement on the M5 over the M4? The most intensive stuff on my computer that I do is Adobe Lightroom Classic - importing, viewing, occasional editing of photos.

If you upgrade, I think you will instantly regret... This MacBook is just a revision of the m4 model (to make people buy it if they don't have a recent MacBook).
