Not as cheap as it used to be, Apple used to rip you off for DDR2 (going price of around $80 for 4GB) but now with the cost doubling for DDR3, it isn't as bad as a hit to go for the next model up.

Plus, 2.8Ghz is just too big of a bump over 2.4 that I NEEDED (well...wanted :p) the option to go for it.

Yeah I'm sure that's just as good as an external display.

Depends on the external. A TN panel is terrible, external or not. My Ultrasharp 2408 is a S-PVA and you can clearly see that difference.

Well I was about to order but I'm kind of blocked: I want to have a French keyboard layout (I'm French) but I live in Berlin. So I went to the French apple online store but they don't deliver abroad !! If I want to buy it online I have to go via the german store which offers only german/US/UK keyboard. What shall I do ?

Regards,
Tex

Sounds like a quick vacation to France is in order.

education discount?

I will hopefully be getting one tomorrow at my local apple store. I am going to use the educational discount (my father's a teacher). Is the discount 10%? It would be awesome if I could get the baseline MBP for 1799 :D

You really REALLY should look at the refurbs if you are looking to save money.
We are talking about a 41% discount for literally yesterday's MBP.

I just hit 'Cancel items' (I was attempting to re-order with a different HDD option) and it said "Your item(s) have already been prepared for shipment, so they cannot be cancelled."

Are they good to go so soon? I'd be happy to leave my order how it is if it ships today/tomorrow.

EDIT: Yup, just got off the phone with Apple. Stock options = fast processing :)

I just ordered mine last night- 2.53Ghz, 4GB RAM, and 320GB of memory :D Only thing I'm not happy about is the glossy screen- I do a lot of illustration work on the computer (in Photoshop), and am used to working with a matte screen. But I can't afford an external display, and I need a laptop now. So I'll just have to make do :( I also finally ordered myself an iPod Classic- can't wait till that comes too :D

I figured with all of the "What was Apple thinking?" threads, we might as well have ONE where people can post about their new purchase. Personally, I went for the whole thing, 2.8 Ghz, 320 GB 7200 RPM drive (SSDs don't even register on my radar), so the performance boost from this old box should be enormous. I used the ADC store so it didn't take the hit as fast, though it's down with the rest of them now. Total came to about $2440.

How about you?

I ordered the same config and from the ADC store as well. Delivery Oct24-28 though.

Im in the middle of getting mine, Not enough cash at hand so I need one for college and decided to get it on AFS and may £40 a month for 36 months (exact length of my course, college bursary you can take care of that LOL), just waiting for barclays to accept it the have to wait for them to insert a 250GB 7200RPM and an apple remote. I went for the base model MBP should be plenty enough for the adobe suite. Cant wait!!!

I hope Barclay accept my Finance agreement or Ill get my mum to put it on her card and pay her instead. Im getting a MBP no matter what!!!

did it

I pulled the trigger a few hours after the presentation. At first I was scared, that the glossy screen might be a "showStopper", but i decided to try it out. I needed a new laptop and there all glossy... so...

welcome, my first mac! ;)

I bought the 2.53 ghz MBP Model.

I live in germany and got no shipping date until now... But I expect it by the end of the month...

bye

I ordered the high spec model but changed the 320GB to the 250GB 7200. Saved £30 or something as I have a 500GB external so space isn't a massive biggy to me, so a quicker and cheaper option.

Got the DVI adaptor and the £60 printer + 8gb ipod nano on rebate (free) as well as the 3 year cover for £58.

+ Student discount I couldn't have gone wrong.

Don't feel too bad, I had to add in a Mini-DisplayPort to DVI cable afterward (apparantly apple uses the "standard" but doesn't include a mini to regular DisplayPort cable in the box. They don't even make one!) which bumped my shipping to the 21st-27th.

just brought a 15" 2.4 pro home from the Trafford Centre shop in Manchester. It's on charge at the moment. Very impressed so far. There was a lot of interest in them in the Apple store. My son was with me and bought the same spec machine at the same time.

I am going to get my $1999 2.4ghz Macbook Pro tonight. Just waiting for my dad to get home, I was about to get the $1299 Macbook, but my mom suggested I get the $1999 MBP and she pay the difference so I was like OK!!! This will be my first Apple computer so I expect great things, but I will be installing Vista to run some games and make use of the 9600gt.

Mate, I had to order the dual-link DVI version and that won't ship till mid November. You want to tick the box that says to ship things as they come in and not wait to ship the entire order. That way you get the MBP itself earlier.

I just got mine a couple hours ago. I went to the Santa Clara Apple store in Valley Fair mall. I LOVE it, I got the $1999 2.4ghz one. I am already used to this trackpad button combo. I was planning on getting the Macbook until I saw no firewire and backlit keyboard, so my mom said get the pro and I will pay the difference! I love my parents. this is my first mac ever but I could not be happier. I got firefox, vlc, ventrilo, installing WoW. I bought a gamecard for WoW too but there was no card inside and the bottom seal was broken, so tomorrow I am going to Best Buy to get a new one.

Back to the mac I LOVE it. I have office, iwork, final cut studio waiting to be installed.

Just picked mine up earlier this evening from the Apple Store in Portland, OR. Loving it so far. The trackpad is amazing, and the whole things feels very sturdy.

First time switcher to Mac

I've finally purchased the MBP (Base model) online few minutes, hopefully I will receive it soon!:D

just ordered my Macbook Pro 2.8, 320gb 7200rpm HD using the ADC store. i wonder how long till it gets here. i wasn't given an overnight option only 2-3day? any of you using ADC get the overnight option?

Yeah I'm sure that's just as good as an external display.

Well its better then the MBP one....lets compare laptops with laptops, cause you will be disapointed if you compare the current Apple external displays with what is available on the market.

If you read the foums, one group of users, Pros is very angry about the new MBP, Glossy screens and photography do not work. Something the Sony addresses.

I have ordered one myself as it meets my needs but I understand why pros are peeved, especially after investing so much money into apple gear/software to be left hanging right now with no matte option.

The reason the MBP went glossy is cause they sell better, your average user will see Matte and glossy in a shop and buy glossy.

I got the new entry MBP, really regret it now, I could have stretched to the top one :( 256mb more graphics memory, 2GB more RAM and 3mb more cache each core...oh well.
