Mine's perfect. No sleep issues, no clicking issues, no loose battery cover, no too loud fans, no overheating, etc. I'm lovin' it!

Nearly perfect (possibly perfect). The screen fades in and out depending on the circumstances. I'm fairly sure it's a power problem and not limited to my book. For instance, when I was burning a DVD, the screen was fading in and out (very slightly, but noticeably if you stared at it). When the disc finished, it stopped.

Go to System Preferences > Display and un-check "Automatically adjust brightness as ambient light changes"

See if it helps. :)

Looks like it's time for me to be the party pooper. :D

Just found another issue that could get quite serious,
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1677617&tstart=0

I noticed the scrren flicker on my new MBA Rev B, but the thread is about MBP
Check if you have this issue too, you can check it with this background pattern

http://www.csse.uwa.edu.au/~lucas/background.html

On my old MBP there's no flicker at all.

Can't complain about mine at all. My first Mac and my first laptop. Haven't had any of the problems that people have been complaining about a lot on this forum.

Oh wait...I just noticed that my F7 key might be a little crooked! I'm just eyeballing it but I'd say its depressed about 2 nanometers on the left side of the key. You guys think I should return my computer? ;)

So far, so good here too.

I ordered a custom configured 2.8Ghz MB Pro about 30 minutes after the Keynote speech ended.... So far, it's been essentially flawless for me too.

I have to admit, I haven't done much gaming or intensive 3D stuff on it yet, so that story about some overheating issues with the new nVidia chipset *could* still rise up to bite me in the butt. But so far, it's been the best Apple laptop I've ever owned.

By contrast, my first Aluminum Core Duo 2.0Ghz Macbook Pro (rev. A) arrived completely dead, out of the box - and it took weeks for Apple to get me another one. Then, they did a "voluntary battery recall" which I opted to participate in, only to be shipped a non-working replacement battery. After *that* was ironed out, I had the built-in bluetooth die on me about 5 months later, and had to ship it back for a warranty repair for that.

kingtj,

I've had a similar string of incidents with my MBP 3,1.

--Logic board replacement for audio hissing (turns out to be chronic) and unusually low powered left USB port (fixed by software in later Leopard build?)
--White flare display spots appearing on display -- replaced by Apple
--Instant death on 2 occasions, one unrecoverable -- Apple replaced a logic board and did the NVIDIA fix
--Gap in optical drive slot (appeared after Apple repair) that scratched discs

...

I mean, right now I've got an MBP that has a new logic board, video, display, new RAM from Apple (they replaced my transintl RAM for some reason on the last repair). But a 1.5 year old machine sure has gone through a lot more repairs than my Pismo, TiBook (still going, more or less!), PowerBook 12", and MacBook combined.

I'm on my first replacement Unibody Macbook Pro (first one had a flickering screen issue) and this one is perfect. NO issues at all. I've pushed the processor to the max while video encoding and nothing has happened. I've been encoding at least three hours a day lately. I just make sure to ramp up the fans using smcfancontrol and the heat never gets above 80c.

Oh, right: I have the standard spec 2.53 GHz version.

Just started using my 15" stock UB MBP. So far so good. Screen is 9c84, no dead pixels, very very minor backlight bleed at the bottom, all in all looks like a good screen especially after updating the color profile to one of the precalibrated ones from the other thread.

CPU runs 80C under full load encoding x264 in handbrake, 70C if I up the fans to 4000rpm. No funky fan noise. Keys are fine as well. I am going to turn on the 9600 next and also try burning a DVD shortly but so far things are going very well with the new machine.

Mine just arrived last night from Club Mac, and it seems perfect so far. The function keys are all level, the screen is flawless, the aluminum surface is smooth, the battery door is solid. It runs cool and quiet, all the ports work... I'm delighted.

No problems here with my 2.53ghz - it's my first Mac notebook and I'm pretty much in love with it. My previous laptop was a 4 year old Toshiba with 512MB of ram was doing the horrible Windows 'screen peel' in slow motion all the time...goodbye Windows, forever :)

Not any glaring problems, but, I do have:

- Flickering screen on 9400M on low brightness
- Uneven keys? im not too worried about that
- Fans don't start up till around 100C
- Battery cover is not all the way in but it's barely noticeable
- Sleep issue (was fixed in recent update)
Other than that, it's fine with me.

2,53 late 08

i have...
-some leftover glue on te right of the screen, didnt get around to clean it yet.
but i havent noticed that till recently so it just might be my evildoing.
-perhaps the keys are a bit off but i really cant tell if its true or not. :)

i consider mine perfect to be honest..
works great on 9400m doesnt flicker on lower brightness, 9600 works fine (been running it for 4hours and it wasnt anything special)
fans rarely go over 2000rpm...
it runs below 40 celsius (sometimes less) when browsing the web and running itunes or something.

My macbook pro is perfect. Why?

Because it's like a woman.

It's got freckles in the form of black flecks of metal coming out of the aluminum on the bottom right (Dunno what they are will create thread to discuss)

The lid is warped slightly... just oh so slightly to get that curvaceous look.

My MBP makes a woop noise when I play music and a shooop noise when the music ends and always greets me when it awakes from sleep with a BZZZNAART from the CD Drive.

The single "button" works 98.2% of the time and the screen is sheer beauty.

The DVI port is ever so slightly tilted, infinitely tiny off angle that makes it oh so much sexier. The entire laptop has an near invisible warp that only a seasoned pro will notice.

In all, the "imperfections" of my MBP make it unique and more perfect. It's 1 inch slender body is a stark comparison to the bulging gluttony of Dells or the black dressed imitation whores from IBM. Nothing compares to my beautiful Macbook Pro Aluminum...

Maybe in a few years I'll have an affair with the Unibody version but currently I'm pretty happy with ym MBP.
