I like the new unibody enclosure. The old design had that gasket going around the edge which I didn't like. The new monitor with it being all black looks really nice however the bezel could perhaps be a little thinner.

I like the Keyboard of the old design but I like the overall form of the new design.

If it was me I would have probably created something between the two machines, keeping the latch-less design of the unibody casing with the unibody base but the old style keyboard with a thinner bezel. I would have also offered a Glossy version (With Glass pane) and a non-glossy version without the Glass but keeping the Black bezel.

I currently have a 2006 17" MacBook Pro which I'll be replacing with a new Unibody 17" MacBook Pro and I don't feel any loss by going to the new design although I am feeling a little worried about the Glossy display. I've seen them in person and they don't work very well in office buildings with many overhead light fixtures in the ceiling.

So just get the matte, I think the silver looks ok.

The new MBP isn't distanced enough from the new Macbook.

@jj: The old MBP had LED backlighting since the Santa Rosa came out in mid 2007.

I know it had led backlighting and never mentioned that it didnt but the newer panels for some reason has a lot higher gamut and the colors look more vivid (I've owned and been through 15x 15" previous gen mbp both matte and glossy).

Also the new unibody's mbp the glass for some reason, you can tell its high quality and it looks exquisitely nice with the led backlighting and the viewing angles is a lot better too.

I do love the old design. Not a big fan of the black bezel and glassy screens are just s..t. However I like the unibody enclosure and also the new keyboard.

At first I didnt really like the black bezel, but after a couple weeks of owning the unibody mbp it grows on you.

I think we all adapt to whatever we have to adapt to. Doesn't meant it was a good design choice to have that glass there -- I really don't think it was. Yes, it' makes the display look vivid and beautiful under perfect circumstances, but the inconvenience of having that reflection when you spend all your time working it it considerable. If you just watch DVDs, listen to music, surf a little etc, fine, but hours of staring at high gloss is just not great.

I'm an original Matte screen lover and still thinking about the 17" hi res mbp in matte just to get the matte screen.

Anyways I think glossy or matte has both its advantages and disadvantages but overall I'm starting to dig the glossy look.

Something about the glass + glossy of the unibody mbp is much different than the previous gen mbp's glossy screens. (And yes I've been through 4x15" glossy mbp previous gen with led backlight and the 17" hi res mbp with glossy as well).

Sometimes watching a movie in the dark scenes on the mbp can get a little annoying when you can see yourself but you get used to it and just get to ignore the reflection when your just busy actually watching and concentrating on the movie itself. But other than that the pros out weigh the cons of just the reflection.

The new 24" LED ACD has glass over the screen just like the mbp and IMHO its a much nicer screen than the 23" or the 30" ACD (had both of them as well).

I don't miss them, because I own the old 2.16Ghz MBP and love it. Just bought a new 250GB Hard Drive for it... I won't be changing in a hurry!!

Love the thing.

Next computer will be bought by work, and will be a MB or MBA I think.
