I was dead set on getting the smaller Pro this year, until I saw that Apple gave the camera edge to the Max. I went ahead and preordered a 12 Pro but will definitely purchase the Max if the difference is noticeable in **day to day, point-and-shoot scenarios.** Are you guys doing the same thing? Either way I and stoked for next Friday!

I've had the Max since the XS and had been debating going smaller this time around. When they made the Max bigger and heavier this year, and delayed the launch, I decided it was as good a time as ever to try the smaller one.

I personally don't think the differences in the cameras are going to make a big difference for most people. Honestly, my iPhone 11 Pro Max takes spectacular photos, and I can't imagine needing anything better. My only reason for possibly still going with the Max would be if the screen just ends up being too small to get used to. But I'm pretty confident I'm going to stay with the iPhone 12 Pro. Personally I thought the XR was the perfect size phone, and now that the screen on the Pro is the same at 6.1", I think it will be perfect for me.

im a max guy but just ordered the 12 pro so I’ll at least have options. If it were 5.8 I wouldn’t touch it but 6.1 could be the sweet spot. I just want to know that that the difference in cameras is not that big. I’m a photographer mostly phone now so if the diff is that big I’ll return it. You can set up a return on the 14th day and then you have another 14 to ship it back

I posted an image at the top, I am no photographer but going off the numbers alone, it looks like very minimal gains.

OP like you I’ve made a reservation for the 12 Pro on iUP but I’m thinking about getting the Max. I guess I’d also like to know if I would see a noticeable difference in photos.

The other thing I’m mindful of is starting the iUP in November for a Max means that I would potentially have to 2 months worth of payments to get to 11 monthly payments in order to upgrade to next years iPhone. That’s assuming they go back to a September release schedule.

I would think the very minor extra benefits from the Max camera would be overshadowed by you preference of having a large device or not.

I've always been a plus/xl sized phone buyer, but I returned the 11 Pro Max last year. It was just too heavy and hard to handle for my liking and I did not enjoy using it. Maybe the squared off sides this year will help, but I'm happy the regular Pro has found a nice medium between the previous sizings.

I ruled out Pro max.

I dont want a phone marginally bigger than 11 Pro Max. I want a phone marginally smaller than 11 non-pro

coupled with $700 off instead of $800, 3 weeks later preorder (not the end of the world but impatient but impatient coupled with thinking its a better route to go) and $100 extra list price, its double what I'd be paying for my 12 Pro over 30 months.

Still a bit apprehensive vs a 12 mini, I found 6.1" a bit much at times but it will be a nice switch up from my Se 2020 and should be sleeker than my XR was... but I want the brighter screen, 6gb ram, 3rd camera, and I really like the Pacific Blue personally. And I have an SE 2020 and I want a phone with really good battery life, the mini seems up in the air in that regard. I'd be afraid of getting fatigue from the 12 non-pro blue.

I was always jealous of my girlfriends 6.1 XR compared to my Max. So I decided to downsize to the 12P. I just hope the resolution/scale is similar to the 11PM. (ie similar amount of content shows on webpages and emails.)

I'm wondering if I should have went with the 12 Pro. I've always gone for the biggest phones but the weight of the 11 Pro Max that I have now becomes noticeable more and more often. The slight camera difference probably won't be noticeable but I really wish they both had the same camera. Or...maybe I'm just saying this because I'm impatient and don't want to wait for the Pro Max. :p

I still don’t know if I got the 12 pro because I’m impatient or I feel the 6.1 is the sweet spot. I want to at least give it a try. If the reviews prove the camera difference is negligible it might be a keeper. Otherwise I’ll go with the max. I’ll order it anyway on 11-6 and start the return process for the 12 pro on the 14th day just in case. Good to have options.

Looks like it will be similar, but not quite as dense as the 11/XR. They added a new scaling/width that's between what the X/Pro and Plus/Pro Max have been in the past for the 12:

It make sense - the new 390pt width maintains the same 3x scale factor of the resolution - but it also means they don't get the 'plus layout' elements now.

I don't know how much has changed since the iPhone XS and XS Max, but when they first introduced the Max, the screen was essentially just enlarged from the standard phone, meaning the exact same amount of content fit on the screen at the same time, it was just slightly enlarged. I almost didn't upgrade for that reason, because the bigger screen didn't get you more real estate. Like I said, that may have changed in iOS updates, but I'm not sure.

Me. The delayed launch. Plus I want to try a slightly smaller phone. I personally think the 12 Pro Max is too big. But we will see if the smaller 12 Pro bothers me.

I really wanted the pro size, but don‘t know if I want to have less battery life than I had on my 11PM and not as good of a camera (compared to the 12PM) so I am very torn.

That all being said, I am on the IUP and I am seriously considering picking up a pro to check out the battery life (compared to what I am used to with the 11pm) and I can wait to send back my 11pm. Worse case senario, I can return the 12pro and order the 12 PM and my credit will have 2 soft pulls, which won’t affect my credit.

That’s a great way to put it. I think people bundle the size and camera as a single benefit. I remember seeing the XR in person for the first time and wishing Apple made the Pro model that size. It’s weird how 6.5-6.7 seem massive compared to 5.8-6.1.

I also think people like to justify their purchase and so telling yourself the camera is significantly better (without any evidence) makes them feel better about it. The only potential advantage I see would be lowlight, but numbers mean nothing to me. I need to see real comparisons!

I woke up 3 minutes before 5AM (wasn't planning on it but my body just woke up me up at that hour!) and I couldn't pre order via the app, it kept erroring out when attempting to pay with apple pay or even my AMEX card. I tried for almost 10 min. I then did it via the browser and it gave me the error again a few times but eventually it went through via the browser. The app kept crashing. Luckily for me I have the privacy extension on my chrome so it prefills my CC info and got it with a blue case too!

I got the 12Pro to play with. I only got it in 256Gigs If I get the Max I may go for the 512Gigs and I may just sell the Pro

Yup, that was my experience too when I compared my 11PM to the XR a few months back. I wonder if that's the case for 12PM and 12P. If so I really see no value to go the 12PM route other than camera/battery.

See my reply above - it looks like this year they differentiated the scaling more. Now the Max gets a little more real estate, and the 12/Pro gets a little less real estate.
