I have two 80gb classics a 4gb nano and a 64bg iPhone 4s. I use one classic in my car and it says connected all day. I use my other classic for my 2 home theater docking systems. The nano I use at home incase I just got a new cd I want to put on really quick and not have to worry about updating a playlists.
My phone I use at the gym, mowing the lawn,airplanes.... Etc. I'm the type that likes to have a divice for every function. I don't want to get a text message while my phone is docked on my home theater playing through my house....and now I need to back downstatis to reply to the text.
Plus I have about 77gbs of music on my classics that my phone just can't hold.
I also don't want my iPhone connected in my car and now I hear text messages and emails and notifications through my speakers as a song is playing.... I'm just anal that way.

Haha hey man at least every device is being used right!? Thats what's important in my opinion :)

Yep, I use an iPod Touch in the car so that I can have my phone free to use without turning off the music. I also have a nano on a dock in the bathroom and a mini (for nostalgia's sake) on a dock on my bedside table.

Nice setup!

I too prefer to have choices & several (read overstocked) Apple products to enjoy.

My favorite of the many iPods I own is the Classic. It contains all my music & it's backed up. I love the click wheel, and it's many other features.

I've also got it configured as one of my "Grab & Go" Apple devices. Being hard drive based I've also got some current data files & portable apps on it. This way when heading out to a friends, I can grab it & go, knowing I'll have all I need.

That's in addition to the select data I have in my personal cloud.

I workout/run with a shuffle, it's just more comfortable than carrying an iPhone.
When I'm out and about or driving, I use Spotify on my iPhone.

Original iPod Classic still going strong in the kitchen and got the nano for the underground commute. Its far easier to skip tracks etc when the device is still in my pocket. Do use the iPhone for more general use though.

Yeah, the 64 is going to be closer, but with Apps, pictures, mail, etc I'll need a 128 before I can truly only use one device, and even the for long trips (i.e the 12 hours x2 of domestic flying I did last week) it's just not going to work only using my phone.

Absolutely. I throw a couple of songs on my iPhone just in case I didn't have my classic for some reason. But it needs to be a lot bigger (memory wise) before I could combine the two. The Classic is just fantastic for a big library.

There's definetely a market for the iphone and a separate ipod. On my day to day basis I only use the iphone but there's room in the market place for the shuffle (gym) and the classic (massive capacity)

Yes! I use my ipod nano 4th gen for running all the time! I do keep music on my iphone as well for in the car and just to have with me wherever I am, but I think I'll always keep an ipod with all my music and playlists for working out...plus...that new nano looks mighty tempting!

Great response to the poll so far! It's cool to read about the different reasons people prefer still using iPods or just their iPhone. I didn't realize so many people also use NUMEROUS iPods :) :apple:

I have a 30GB iPod Classic in the glove box of my truck which is hooked to the Alpine stereo.

iPhone 4
iPod nano 16GB
iPod Classic 160BG

iPhone is used for traveling or just out and about. I have a few playlists on there so somewhere around 500 songs or so.

Nano is used primarily at the gym. Easy enough. Super small and lightweight. Barely even know I have it on me.

Classic (for now) allows me to bring my entire music library with me wherever I go. Once I get my car stereo updated, then I'll be able to bring my entire music library in the car with me. NO MORE BURNED CD'S!!!!!!!!

No. It defeats the purpose of having an iphone.

Seriously, what do you guys need an iPod for? Does it play music at better quality?

Now have access to about 11,000 songs on iTunes Match on iPhone at any time, no need for storing them all on the device.

Why would I need a second device in my car with carrying a phone anyway? And I can continue listening where I left off with earphones.

Wow, I'm surprised at the poll results. I would assume that more people would not have an iPod once they got an iPhone.

I have a Nano that I use as a watch, pedometer, and sometimes for music/radio when I go workout. During the day at work I mostly use my phone to listen to podcasts or Spotify.

I have an old 8 GB iPod Nano "fattie" that I use for listening to podcasts when I'm on the treadmill or outside jogging, because I've dropped my iPhone a couple times while exercising, and I no longer want to risk damaging it.

I had an 80 GB iPod 5G Video model that held my entire music collection, but unfortunately, I think it accidentally got knocked off a desk and into a wastebasket and went out with the trash a couple years ago. I thought about replacing it, but I was holding out for the inevitable (I thought) 128 GB iPhone. With iCloud and iTunes Match, not having all my music physically on one device is no longer an issue, although there's sometimes a lag when a song starts, and sometimes certain songs will fail to play for no apparent reason, only to play when I try again later. I don't know if I'd use my old iPod if I still had it, though, because I like the iPhone's interface so much better.

My sister uses her iPod touch and her iPhone 4S both regularly. Since her 4S is only 16gb, she keeps all her media on her 64gb iPod touch. That way she doesn't have to compromise on space with her iPhone. She just throws both into her purse so she has both whenever she needs them.

For me personally, my first gen iPod touch sits in my car for music or on my iHome in my room (and that's all it does now). Apart from that I keep my phone for everything else.

i keep a little bit of music on my iPhone for when Iam out and about basically just my favourite tracks ( bare essentials) but i keep all my audio books on a iPod classic with all my podcasts which i download daily and if i want to listen to more music that i am not so keen on then i use a western digital network drive with app and i access all my music from there using a 3G Connection and i can also watch films or tv series

Perfect solution to carry music or videos on the move if you have data connection and it good

I have over 400Gb worth of music on my drive that i can access at a click of a finger the best thing about it the music can be in any file format and it will stream to your device easy you can even download music from network drive on to your device if you are on the move too.

I absolutely LOVE my 160GB iPod Classic. It gives me the benefit of having my entire music collection at my finger tips.

I dread the day when Apple, in their infinite wisdom, discontinue the 'Classic' iPod models.

I have an 80GB ViPod classic that I use in the car when I want all of my music and an iPod Nano 6th gen that just clips on the sleeve of my Under Armor when I workout. I really like the new Nano, hmmmmm.
