I would watch an occasional anime from time to time usually because of recommendations from my friends, Recently, I caught this anime movie called "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time", it is really good. The story appeals to quite a wide audience as well. I would recommend watching this movie. Here's the wiki link

I did watch Dragonball, Dragonball Z and GT until that finished.

Now i've watched Full Metal Alchemist, and am currently watching Bleach and Naruto: Shippudden. 2 weeks in between each episode of Bleach damnit!

. i think dragon ball is the worst at dragging things on

Actually I think Naruto would take the prize for that. Filler for over 100 episodes I think? Or at least it seemed like that...

What is anime, exactly? Is it any Japanese cartoon TV series or movie? If so, then yes, I have started watching them semi-recently (ie: within the last 7 months). :) My girlfriend is Japanese, and I just watch them to learn Japanese.

So anyway, I have a very small stash of anime, several of which I haven't even watched yet. "Tonari no Totoro" is the one I'm most familiar with. I've seen that a billion times, though. Until recently, Totoro was my only anime, while the rest were just movies in Japanese (Ice Age 2, Goal, and several others). I'm working on Spirited Away now. I haven't watched it all the way through, but I'll finish it tonight. It's OK. I'll watch Princess Mononoke next. :)

I'm fairly new to anime (got into it due to my friend talking about them non-stop), but i've watched quite a bit here and there. The ones that stick out are:

Rurouni Kenshin series and OVA's (my very First anime, and i absolutely loved it)

Fullmetal Alchemist (very unique story line)

Naruto (Awesome anime. thrilling fight scenes. But have to agree w/some of the other guys...they had like 100 filler episodes!!!!WTF was up with that, i just stopped watching until they got back to the main story line)

Avatar: the last airbender (i dont even know if this qualifies as an anime, but its just good fun and really well done)

Bleach (my latest addiction, and its pretty damn good.....Although i just got to the end of the 3rd season and have hit the inevitable filler episodes. Heres hoping they dont follow Naruto's lead...)

I don't watch anime per se; or maybe more accurately, I don't make it a point to watch anime. I enjoy traditionally animated films and television shows (and the occassional CGI offering) regardless of origin. I've seen maybe a dozen anime films, and I particularly enjoy Miyazaki's work. I don't really watch series of any shows animated or otherwise, but I do make an exception for House.

There's a new one on the map for me. Blood+ is sort of like Anime Underworld. I've only seen the first two episodes, but this one has a spot on my DVR at 12:30 am every night on Adult Swim.

Living in Japan I am surrounded by the stuff. I even have 'Animax' on my SkyPerfect service - not that I watch it, my significant other does though.

I watch em....don't follow them a lot but if they do come on I'll watch them...except Blood. I like to watch:

S-CRY-Ed
Inuyasha
Paranoia Agent
Full Metal A.
Bleach
Shin Chan
Neon Genesis Evangelion
FLCL
DBZ......too long winded but the action is cool
Naruto.....again very long winded but has its moments

I like the Paprika movie and Vampire Hunter D.

Bless

I watch/collect a select few shows, mainly comedies. I will admit, though, that I breathe a sigh of relief whenever I discover a series that isn't about teenagers. I know, that's the target audience. But I'm teened out.

Mostly, my interest in anime is a subset of my interest in sci-fi and fantasy, since so many anime series and films live in those genres.

Does anyone Watch anime?

I've noticed some members on this site have anime avatars and I wanted to make this topic because of it. Does anyone like anime or watch an anime show and if you do what show do you like?

I really like watch it. My favorites would have to be Dragonball Z, Naruto, Bleach, Death Note, and Get Backers.

I don't really watch much TV but I've got a soft spot for Ghibli films. Anime is an influence on my work as a whole actually.

Like the one millionth thread about this. :p

I like Gundam Seed, Gundam Seed Destiny, and Gundam 00. Pretty much I am a Gundam freak. :p

Im just not sure but i cant stand watching anime. I wish i could because some of the stories are amazing. The art style just bothers me.

Does Pokémon count?:D

Due to the growing Otaku culture here in South Africa Sony recently released an Anime channel showing, you guessed it, ANIME 24/7. It's not really my thing but I enjoy Hellsing and the occasional episode of Gundam (seed I think)- honestly what's there not to like about mobile fighting suits!

I'm in the same boat...there's just something about the art style I can't get in to. Maybe it's not even the art style but the poor translations and the way everyone talks reallyreallyreally fast in most of them. I'm not sure which it is.

On occasion friends show me anime with interesting enough plots that I can watch through the whole thing (there was one called Spiral with murder mysteries...) but not too often.

Hardened Narutard dattebayooooo :D
(or "believe it" if you prefer)

I did watch Pokemon a few years ago, then I noticed how repetitive it was!

I ought to put an avatar up, I didn't realise I'd qualified for one yet as it was an insaaaaaaane threshold of 500 posts. I'm booted into Windows right now though and don't have access to 'em.
Edit: well I kind of tried but it just comes up as a link!

Anyone see Paprika? I really liked that movie. Don't really watch Anime because most of the time I don't like the stories.

Paprika
Princess Monoke
Castle in the Sky

Are the usual ones I watch.

I have an odd question for all of you. Back in the day, I used to watch Kimba and Speed Racer, both Japanese cartoons. Are either of these considered anime?

Yes, both. Very old, and at least in the case of Speed Racer also very bad (never seen Kimba so no opinion), but still anime. All that's required is the basic visual style and usually a particular style of story structure, but they're also both produced in Japan.

Maybe it's not even the art style but the poor translations and the way everyone talks reallyreallyreally fast in most of them.
Just curious if the bad translations and hyperactive speech is from dubbed or subtitled anime. I ask because many dubs these days are quite well done both in terms of writing and dialogue. Subtitles are drastically more accurate than they used to be, but the writing is often shaky (especially fansubs), and Japanese can sound speedy if you're not used to it.

I do note, however, that Japanese really does sound like that. Not as many high pitched voices (though WAY more than you'd think) in real life, but the dialogue in a lot of anime (not all, of course) is more true to life than you'd expect if you didn't speak some of the language.

As for the original question, no avatar (3,500 posts, just never bothered) but yes: Akemi's Anime World. Though for someone who's written 200 reviews I watch a lot less than you'd think--I get together with friends once a week for a few hours and that's basically it, and I don't keep up on what's hot or new at ALL.

Currently watching through Daphne of the Brilliant Blue, which is awesome and a half surprisingly enough, Someday's Dreamers, Rumiko Takahashi Anthology, and Crest of the Stars.

Personal favorites are Nausicaa, Kiki's Delivery Service, Jubei-chan the Ninja Girl, Boogiepop Phantom, Heidi, Urusei Yatsura, and Tenchi Muyo (OAVs only).

Never posted in one of these threads before, but I was actually searching because I've always wanted to do a Mac-related section of my site, but never mustered the time and effort involved, so I'm wondering if there are any other dual-fans out there who'd be interested in maybe working on something of the sort...

I wouldn't say that I watch Anime specifically. I enjoy traditionally animated films from any country, Japan just tends to have one of the most active industries.

In the Anime department, though, I've particularly enjoyed:

Princess Mononoke
Howl's Moving Castle
Ghost in the Shell
Steam Boy

Edit: always subtitled, never dubbed. I prefer to watch any film, animated or otherwise, in it's original language, and will almost never watch something that's been dubbed.
