These days, I don't read TIME either. The quality of the writing (and research) deteriorated over the last two decades.

However, initially, the idea was a very good one - an attempt to identity the people, or individuals, who had had a significant impact on the world (for good or ill) over the previous year.

Most US presidents have made the cut since the tradition was introduced - only one has not.

Decades ago I dumped my Time subscription because their report methodology and style was too mechanical. I switched to Newsweek until their print version folded. I thing they became The Daily Beast, but I lost interest.

My father started to subscribe to TIME after a visit to the US in the mid to late 50s to visit some relatives (who had urged him to move there permanently, but my mother - whom he was dating at the time - had no interest in moving to the US).

JFK was a Senator with presidential ambitions, - whom my father initially admired, - and my father developed a life long fascination with US history and US politics.

So, until well into the 1990s, we had a subscription to TIME, and I used to read it weekly.
