Who won’t be ditching the current MBA

There is no way I will be ditching my current macbook air for the new macbook I believe my macbook is far more capable than the new macbook with the Core M processor Far less ports, 480p FT camera come on apple its 2015 plus its more expensive, its clearly not worth the price tag I would more than likely get a retina macbook pro its a much better deal

I think it should be $800 thats what its worth based on it specs lower the ram and the SSD to 4GB and 128GB respectively and update the current macbook air with a retina screen next year when skylake is released

not gonna pay $1300 for a fancy chrome book “ all its good for is web surfing "

I'll be keeping my 2013 MBA. Because I can connect my Yamaha DTX drums to it via USB, while simultaneously hooking my UAD Apollo to it.

Oh, and I can charge it at the same time. The new Macbook has some cool whiz-bang tech to it, but it is a connectivity FAIL on multiple levels, and it is overpriced.
 
I was hoping to replace my current 2013 11" MBA for the new retina macbook but as it turns out, despite the gorgeous screen and form factor, the fanless design and lack of ports will likely rule it out for me. It still remains to be seen, but the main reason is that I use my MBA as my main computer, which I like to connect to an external monitor and multiple external drives frequently, as well as frequently running processes that make the fan kick into high gear. I just don't see how this would work with the new macbook.
 
For me: MacbookPro Retina > Macbook Air > Macbook

Why? I don't need an ultra thin Macbook, that's it. And I don't want to buy 79$ for adapters.
 
I will need to see how the single USB port works. If you can't supply power and connect at least one external USB drive, there's no way this will work for me. YMMV.
 
Kind of.

I'll be selling my MBA for rMBP, Intel Iris 6100 is nice.

The new MacBook looks nice but it loses some important features, the only thing it has going for it is the screen (and it's weight and thinness, for some people)
 
Just got my 11" air and to be honest the usb-c is great, but its going to take years before all devices start to use something like this.

Can see a fancy looking apple usb hub coming already
 
Still quite happy with m 11" 2013 i7/8gb/512gb MBA, not interested in the retina 12". Some of the regular MBA updates look nice - they said 2x faster flash memory on the 13" model. Wow, does that mean 1.4GB/sec? My 2013 is 700MB/sec.
 
Seems like an unrealistic speed to me, buying a PCI SSD that operates at those kind of speeds costs more than a macbook itself.
 
I don't understand why they went with 8GB RAM as standard on the 12" and kept the Air models at 4GB. To me that makes no sense.

I guess the caveat is that he said "up to". Strange that they are doing this on the 13 but not the 11.

It seems like the people they are trying to sell the new macbook to will be not computer literate. They might be impressed by the ssd and ram specs and won't notice that slow-ass cpu and those missing ports :p

The new macbook might actually be a very nice laptop for most consumers, but what really bugs me is that charging port. I broke two laptops before my rmbp from tripping over the wires.
 
I bought a 2014 MBA a month ago, and it worked out cheaper than the 2015 update.

The rMBA or "New Macbook" as they are calling it sucks for people that actually want a computer, not an iPad and keyboard combo running OS X.

4GB is still plenty of RAM for the target market of the MBA. At the price they are the selling the new MacBook, it HAD to have 8GB for it to be worth it. Realisticly, you won't be able to do anything that requires 8GB of RAM on a Core M processor anyway.

Although a beautiful laptop, I'd probably still get a MBA over the new MB any day. I'm just happy the ARM based Mac rumors are false.

I'm keeping my 2012 MBA also.

Maybe my mind will change once the 12" is in the wild and we can get reviews of what it can really do, but right now it sounds like it will struggle with apps that I run no problem on my two-year-old MBA and six-year-old VAIO Z.

I was hoping to replace both machines with one machine this year, and hoping for the 12" to be that replacement, but not with core M.
 
I waited, I watched ( no pun intended) I liked










Then I ordered a refurbished 2014 mba base model from the UK Apple store for just over 50% of the new Macbook cost. :)

This should be good for the next 3 years (i'm not a power user) then I'll probably look at the 3rd gen of the retina Macbook to replace it.
 
My 2014 MBA will be mine till the next update/ bump for the mabook/air.
once that is done the wife will get the (14), and I'll be happy with new and improved.

I was eagerly waiting for the "New MacBook" since I bought my current MacBook Air back in 2010. I felt it was the only machine which could replace my beloved MBA. It seems that I was wrong, I'll stick with it until it no longer works!

With the introduction of this New MacBook, they just made the Retina MacBook Pro much better in value.

I too am thoroughly happy with my 13" fully optioned 2014 MBA.

Between that and my fresh new 15" fully optioned 2015 MacBook Pro Retina, I've got all the bases covered for work, travel and personal use.

A longtime Mac user, Apple Historian and Shareholder I find the new MacBook very nice but of no advantage to me at this point.

Although I was just given a new iPhone 6 Plus by Apple to replace the defective one, I'm very eager to buy a new iPhone 6 Plus S. Or whatever they name the upcoming new model. The genius told me (unsolicited) that while diagnosing mine that I had too much work in process and it was out of memory.

2GB Is rumored for the next version, hopefully Apple won't change their mind. I'm an immediate buyer.

There are plenty of ways to use RAM that aren't CPU intensive. I run multiple virtual machines at once and would benefit from RAM but don't really need the CPU. I'd be fine with the Core M.

Not many people run VMs. Also the m core will influence VM performance. TechZecke is right.
