I thought that the MBA 11" was nearly perfect when I bought it a year ago, and the new Macbook doesn't have anything to cause me to think differently.

I do feel a bit sorry for those who simply wanted a retina version of the MBA 11 and had been waiting all this time. But at least they can now make a decision since the "other shoe" has dropped.

I took a risk and bought before the price rise that just came with Broadwell outside the U.S. Glad I did but even with increased pricing I would still go for the 11" over the new Macbook.

Using an enthusiasts forum to gauge the overall user base is laughable at best.

Who was doing that? You? Not me. I could care less about the user base. I only care if this machine will work for me, or if I need to buy something else. It's Apple's job to care about the user base.

Nah pass. I'll still keep using my OG 2010 MBA. I love retina screens, and have one on my 15" work machine, but I also love USB ports baby.

Too much compromise.

At this point if I want a retina, I'd go with the rMBP instead.

I plan to use my 2012 MBA until it no longer works and I have to replace it. I like being able to have two usb cables plugged in while charging. The one usb-c port wouldn't be enough for me. While a retina screen would be nice it's not a necessity to me and I can live without it.

Apple continues to make thin and light products for the sake of being thin and light. Fanless design does nothing for me. My MBA is barely audible 99% of the time!

Except that USB-C is a standard and nobody is making you buy Apple products to connect to it.

In fact, this is kind of the opposite of a money grab because you'll be able to charge the new MB via USB, which means Apple won't be selling those MagSafe wall adapters anymore with their 1000% markups.

No, instead they sell a 2m USB-C cable for $30 and a 29w AC-USB-C adapter for $50. Which is the same as the $79 MagSafe Adapter is currently.

I get what you're saying, though. There would be nothing preventing, say, Belkin from making the same 2 components and selling them for less, whereas the MagSafe adapters currently are "only" made by Apple.

Exactly. USB-C is going to take over the world, all laptops will be charged via USB-C in a few years, and USB-C chargers, adapters, and peripherals will become as ubiquitous as all the USB-A stuff we have now.

Keeping my mid 2013 MBA 13". I really wanted to either purchase a retina MB or MBP but neither one of these laptops feel right to me. I was also debating purchasing last years model refurb 13" MBP because it is a 25% discount over this years model.

I believe I will be going to a MBP 13" once it has Skylake, its thinner, and improved battery life.

I think the new Macbook is interesting but I dont think it will serve my needs. But will be interested to see future versions of it. I currently have a mid 2012 MBP but wanted something more portable and decided to buy a MBA.

I almost pulled the trigger on one a few days ago but went to a local Apple store today and got the new 2015 11 inch (256 GB) and I am very pleased with it and glad I waited a few days before buying.

I am using my new MBA for a book I am writing. I have a few games I can play but not doing anything graphic extensive so I think it will be plenty powerful for my needs (Web browsing, email, reading, Pages, a few games).

I realize that I never actually answered the question. I don't see myself ditching my current 2013 Air today for the new MacBook, but I'm not in the market for a new machine. In 2-3 more years, I could probably see myself buying this, though.

This new macbook will surely get more better in coming iterations as was the case with mba which was useless in first two generations

They had to completely redesign the MBA after 2 years to address all the shortcomings with the original MBA.

I don't see how a complete redesign translates to "get more better" (presumably you mean gradually improve).

Apple has designed themselves into a corner with the new MacBook. If they want faster (hotter) processors or a bigger screen they need to do a complete redesign. If they want more ports they have to do a complete redesign.

I don't see how the new MacBook can be incrementally improved to address any of the shortcomings that people are complaining about.

pretty simple actually more USB-C slots or just scrap the macbook and make a new retina Air

Keeping my 2011 MBA. At first, during the announcement, I was googly-eyed. But after thinking about what I would gain (and lose) and the expense, I realized I'm just fine with my MBA.

Love my MBA too much to ever stop using it. At this time I don't have an actual need for the Macbook. I'm a fool for Macs so I will not say never. It does look cute.
