I've found it really useful for notes, reminders and alarms. And pulling facts from WolframAlpha. Can't wait till we get the local business information and directions over here in the UK next year!

It's only going to get better. Remember it's still in beta!

Im using it much more than expected. I assumed it would be just a novelty, in actual fact its a real time saver! Reminders, setting alarms, reading/texting while driving etc.

How do you guys use it to send texts?

For me it says my phone is locked. What good is it if you have to pull out your phone to input the access code?

And yeah I have it set to allow access in passcode settings.

I've been using Siri and it works well for most questions, but if I ask it for something about a local business, for example, where is the nearest pizza restaurant, it always replies that Siri is not able to give information for businesses outside the US and also something about using only the UK voice.
It works very well for other sorts of questions.
Is anyone else in the UK having this problem?
Is there a solution?

Yep, take your phone back, you're still in the 14 day return period. Apple aren't supporting outside of the US for maps based searches etc until 2012, byt which time it'll be iPhone 5 time. Siri is just a gimmick.

Has anyone used Siri in public yet, I mean where other people you don't know can hear you talking to your phone?

I've been using Siri a lot since I bought my 4S. I mostly us it to read and reply to text messages when I can't look at the screen, make notes, create reminders, and set alarms.

I like telling Siri to "shuffle songs" when I already have my earbuds plugged in and the phone in my pocket.

I haven't used the map features yet but it would have been really useful last week when I was selling an item on craigslist and my HTC Thunderbolt kept getting me lost.

Yep, regularly. Start Siri, place phone to head, ask question, remove from head to read answer (or leave to listen), return to reply or ask next question - works great!

Or, pause, repeat song/album, continue playing music etc

I've been using Siri every day for the basics--alarms, iMessages, find information, reminders, etc. and while exercising, to catch up on those incoming bits of tasks that I always held off until later for!

Siri is an awesome feature! My family loves it do and users her also, for the ones who have iPhones!

Siri should not be under-estimated!

I agree, it's like a kids toy which is why it's so popular at the moment. Going forward only the kids will be playing with it.

Go through all the threads and you'll find that you missed a few opportunities to say how useless Siri is. Just because a lot of people are treating Siri as a novelty (and I agree that a lot of the examples being posted are frivolous) doesn't mean that there aren't legitimate uses for Siri in situations where typing is difficult or impossible.

I've been using it. "disable all alarms" in the morning when I wake up, "is it going to rain tomorrow" when I'm getting all my work stuff ready, "where's the nearest _____" whenever, and various other fun stuff. And I can't help but say thank you every time.

Quite Amazing

The wife and I are setting appointments and sharing a single grocery list
in the car sending texts setting reminders -

it's truly useful - a revolution in how we are managing things.

Like lots of people, I played around with it a lot when I first got the 4s. Now that I'm past that, I use Siri for reminders, notes, playing music, and some texting.

I don't think I will ever quit using Siri for reminders...it's just a whole lot easier to tell Siri to remind me than to launch the app and start typing.

My only issue is that Siri seems to be down a lot (not able to connect to the network).

Siri will not be so great if it is unreliable. Hoping the network stuff gets sorted out in the near future and eventually it "just works."

I played around with Siri for a few minutes, then turned her off. I already have a woman in my life who is smarter than I am and tells me what to do. :)

its certainly not a toy and will have serious longetivity as it continually improves its performance. Its here to stay and its the future.

Like the iPad others will jump on the bandwagon and start putting serious AI voice activated apps into products.

Apple may not have been the first with voice activation but the company certainly can spot an underperforming area of the market, turn it into something that really works, is simple to use and then becomes a world beater that others scramble to copy (hello Samsung).

With wi-fi "n" on, the Siri websearch is staggeringly fast. Beats typing a search into a search engine all ends up.

I think Apple has shown that Voice Activation can really work for the first time and its gonna become mainstream in the future

I've been using it like a lot of other folks. Calendars, reminders, etc.

I can't wait until I can say "Navigate to XYZ" and Siri fires up TomTom and away I go....

When I got up this morning and was still groggy I asked Siri "what time is it?" and she told me the time without me having to look at the screen. Turning on the phone and looking at the screen would probably have worked too, but it's nice to be able to just ask it and get a response.

I also ask Siri for the weather now as I get dressed, again something that would just take a button press and two swipes normally, but being able to interact with it naturally via speech feels nice.

Works great in the car. Siri even works through my car's audio system via bluetooth. So a nice option to listen to or respond to texts hands free. It'd be great if I could initiate her through the steering wheel controls, but not a big deal to push the button and speak.

Funny thing is, I can remember people saying that about the iPhone itself a few years ago. I was the first in my office with one, and everyone thought "it was just a toy that played music and games".

Now, 8 out of 10 people in my office have an iPhone and love it, and they get a LOT done on it.

I believe you are 100% wrong. Apple will be known as the company that brought voice recognition into mainstream use, and they are just getting started.

It is by far the feature of the 4S that i use the most, even more so than actually making phone calls. rather than google something on the web, i tell her to. Too lazy to set your alarm? tell her to. I find my self really not "using" my phone becuase of Siri.

To be honest, its fairly worthless. Its good for parlor tricks and not much more.

How can it be worthless when you can use to help you to do what you already do on the phone? Do you text? Ok this will make it hands free and write/read text for you. Do you go on Facebook/tweet? This will post msgs for you? So much more it can do. There is nothing worthless about it. This is not a novelty. This is the future!

stupid stuff

I am using it, mostly dictation, speech to text for sms, imessage and email.

what I REALLY don't understand is why I can't open apps with it, or search the DEVICE with it.

Also, why can't it get me flight status for an airline flight? That would seem to be a no brainer, it can't even parse the context/content and take me to a website with info.
