Whilst nothing has been confirmed, rumour of an iPhone SE2 is said to be coming in early 2020.

If apple releases an SE2, would you buy it? What would it need to have/be for you to get it?

I’m debating it. It depends a lot on what it looks like and its specs. Otherwise, no. I don’t need a new phone, but an inexpensive notchless phone with some of the latest specs could be solid.

It would be a nice travel phone for crossing the border, where DHS or other agencies might download the contents. It's an iPhone 8 design, so it probably won't attract too much attention from thieves, especially in places like Italy. Basically, it's an iPhone you can afford to lose.

It's an iPhone 8 with some internal changes so I have no plans on getting one.

If Apple designed an iPhone that was the size of the SE, had no screen bezel, and updated internals, I would buy it.

I’m currently using an iPhone 8 and I feel limited with the 2GB RAM. I seem to get a lot of safari page reloads that I didn’t experience when using the 11 and 11 Pro. So for that reason alone I’ll probably buy it as it’s rumored to have 3GB RAM.

I have to replace my 5S with something soon… It might be the SE2 (depends on the price and specs). The 11 is a little too big for me, hopefully the 2020 design will be better in this aspect (5.8" would be better for me).

I will seriously consider getting one to replace my 8 plus if it has the same kind of specs as the 8 but with the a13 processor. If they made a ‘plus’ variant then that would be amazing, but apple wont do that as it would cannibalise the newer iphone 11 range.

Any analyst that calls an iPhone 8 replacement an “iPhone SE2” is being misleading. Perhaps, instead, we should call that update an “iPhone 8s,” which is much more consistent. A true SE2 would have a smaller, more reasonable size. I have two SE devices and I’d love to see a full screen in the same-sized casing.

I've squinted at the name "SE 2" as well – the whole point of an SE for people is that it's specifically the size of an iPhone 5 – but I could totally see Apple calling it the new iPhone SE. (Or the XSE, or 11SE, and on and on.)

I get the feeling Ming-Chi Kuo has a little bit more credibility and insight into Apple’s product plans and strategy than a forum poster.

I am definitely getting it.

Whether it’s $300 or $1000, I don’t care. I’ll pay a huge premium for a smaller phone with upgraded internals.

Yes, it sucks that this phone will be bigger than a true SE2 so many of us were hoping for. But in this day of iPad-sized smartphones, it will likely be the next best thing - the smallest and lightest modern phone around.

I’m buying an 11 pro so will be sad/jealous when/if it comes out. Although 8 is already to big so I’m not sure it will make much difference.

I’ve been using SE as my daily driver for 2,5 years now. Thankfully it runs just fine on iOS 13 and Dark Mode has refreshed the software experience so I’m quite happy with what I’ve got atm. I see this SE 2 (8s, 9 whatever it’s called) as my most likely upgrade option. But two conditions must be met.

1. Just like the original SE it needs to feature the latest camera tech, iPhone 11 generation in this case. A single camera is fine as long as it will have the improved Smart HDR, Deep Fusion and Night Mode.
2. Just like the original SE it has to be a good value proposition. I’m thinking 399 to 499$ at most for the 64gb base model.

If these conditions are met, I’m in for this compact-ish, notchless stealthy beast.

Not a day one purchase, but I’ll be interested in it if the iPhone Pro 12 5.4 model doesn’t meet expectations.

This phone will be completely underrated for everything it will offer in 2020. The reality is, Apple can either create its own separate launch or include it with the other iPhones in September of next year. But no matter what, this phone will probably draw more media attention than the ‘iPhone 12’.

I think I'll have to wait and physically compare the size to my SE in the store before deciding for sure.
I remember when I got my iPhone 6 and told myself that it's not much bigger than my 4s so it won't be too bad.

Really? I have yet to have that happen to me with Safari. I do use an adblocker so that may attribute to less memory usage.

With iOS 13xx, off course it have dark mode.
Well, we don’t know for sure. If Apple’s tech requires more than one camera or the new camera module to achieve night mode, then this SE2 might not have it. Note that this is supposed to be at the current iPhone 8 price point with similar design language. At that low price point, Apple might simply use the iPhone 8 and replace the A11 with the A13 and more RAM, and even then that would be already a decent deal. Case in point the iPad mini 5 with the A12, yet it doesn’t have the same exact camera feature set as the iPhone XR because it uses an older camera module. Who knows. Whatever it is, for me personally the dealbreaker is night mode.

My mom threatened to buy a candy bar Nokia phone if her se ever breaks lol. So she was glad to see news of the se2 coming out lol. She loves her small phone. I’m hopimy they can do iPhone 8 size but Face ID

My iPhone 8 has been great but I’m totally bored of the design. I’ve had the 6, 6S, and now the 8. If Apple just updates the 8 I'll more likely move to a larger device like the 11 pro. I’d love an SE sized phone but Kuo prediction sounds more like an updated 8 to me. The 5.4 rumor sounds enticing if true so that may be something in my future as well. I’ve declined to upgrade so far due to size, notch, and price. It will be interesting to see what they come out with.
