I highly recommend calling your insurance company and asking if they have an electronics rider. This costs me $5/year (on top of my renter's insurance) and has ZERO deductible. It covered two broken screens and one defective battery this year, no problem. All I do is send them the bill and they send me a check.

On any iPhone since the iPhone 4 they have been able to replace the battery so you would only get a battery replacement through your warranty. If the phone had liquid damage, however, you could pay the deductible and get a complete replacement.

Ok, didn't realize that.
With my iPhone4 & 5 they asked me if I wanted to swap phones.

I handed over my phone and they handed me a me new one (refurb) in the store.

Do they actually make some people sit and wait while they swap batteries?

I can't wait to drop AT&T's Android insurance plan. My Samsung phone died in June and I had to pay a $199 deductible. This is after paying $9.99 a month for their insurance premium for a year and a half. On a holiday weekend no less, so I was phone-less for 5 days. Never again. If I'd had a junky "backup phone" available, I'd just have waited out the last three months.

AppleCare+ all the way. $79 is a lot easier to handle than $199 22 months into my contract. I looked at SquareTrade as well for iPhone 6, but still prefer AppleCare+ as Phoenix has a ton of Apple retail stores.

I've never had it but I think I will this time. I don't like to use protection so no case for me. No screen issues but my 5's ear speaker stopped working after a drop of butter fell into it. The mic has been off and on.

Can you purchase the Apple Care Plus if you are pre-ordering from your carrier's webiste, in my case AT&T?

What kind of insurance are you referring to? Renters? Homeowners?

So you pay for Applecare, and if you drop your phone and crack the screen, you STILL have to pay $75 to have it replaced?

How is this any better than just paying some 3rd party place to fix it for you for $70-$100 anyway?

I'm going to get it this time... I am going to go naked with the iPhone 6 plus and don't want to be nervous every time I have my phone out!

AppleCare+ is definitely worth it. A single drop without AppleCare+ is more expensive than two drops with it.

I would have it for this reason. I'm always as careful as I can with my phone, but my luck usually is that I don't buy something like AppleCare + and then I break my phone.

so, if you buy AppleCare+ for the iPhone 6 (plus)

and within the 2 year period you get a few scratches on it, and maybe a tiny dent from a drop....couldnt you drop the phone into a pool and then go back for a replacement device for $79?

thus getting an "almost" new phone 1.5-2 years after purchase??

Really you'd be getting a new phone for $100 + $79 which is not much less than what Apple charges for out-of-warranty replacements.

Good point! I guess it depends on how much you use it. So each repair/replacement is $175.00. I see that some have used it a few times. Is this really worth it vs what you'd pay _if_ you need to have your phone repaired/replaced?

I always get AppleCare+.

My last few experiences when I cracked a screen with AppleCare+ is that they replace the phone for you for free. I know the policy says $79 but the last 2 times I went for a repair, they didn't charge me.

I've always passed on Apple care, and just rely on my Amex card's warranty & accidental protection.

Wait for the first year under the normal warranty. If something internal goes to **** in that time you're covered. If it doesn't, it's not likely it will later.

They replace cracked screens for free for a good majority of people without AppleCare too.

wonder if these claims would have any effect on the insurance company raising your rates...

I've always gotten AC+ except this last time with my iP5s. I've never used/needed it.

On my kids lines...that's a different story.

I make sure there is a reason to use AC+ at least once during the cycle, but I normally get my 2 replacements.

If you drop your phone in water, a 3rd party will likely not be able to fix it. Also, having any repair done by a 3rd party would void the remainder of your Apple warranty. Not worth it to me.

I'm seriously thinking it's money well spent, especially since I am paying $400 ON CONTRACT for my 6+
