Squaretrade's iphone plan seems to offer similar coverage and only a $50 deductible.

Any reasons to choose one over the other?

Squaretrade now charges $75 for all claims. Apple is $79. You're viewing an old policy. Not sure they will honor it for the newer iPhones. They changed it last year just after the iPhone 5S came out.

Can Apple Care Plus work if you are on vacation overseas and have an accident with your phone?

Hmm. Do either cover loss or theft?

You have 60 days to buy from when the phone is dispatched, I'm getting the applecare, better to be safe than sorry.

Who's getting Apple Care + for the iPhone 6/6 Plus?

I've never needed AppleCare+, but I bought it for my 6+. I'm worried the larger size may slip out of hands more easily. Haha

You have 60 days to buy AppleCare+ and if you don't buy it at the time of purchase you have to take your phone down to the Apple store so they can inspect it.

I believe it can be bought within 90 days so feel free to defer this decision until later.

You have 30 days from the purchase date to add it. :)

it was changed to 60 days.

How to get AppleCare+

  • Add it to your shopping cart during the checkout process when you purchase your new iPhone.
  • Buy it within 60 days of your iPhone purchase. Your iPhone purchase date is the date we ship and charge you for your order

you don't have to go to the store anymore (since last year). you can call them over the phone and have applecare plus added to the device.

How to get AppleCare+
  • At an Apple Retail Store (requires inspection of your iPhone and proof of purchase)
  • By calling (800) 275-2273 (requires you to run a remote diagnostic and provide proof of purchase)

Yes.... definitely getting it once I receive the phones. The phone is bigger and I may get butter fingers with it. I was pretty nervous ordering to begin with. I was scared to add anything extra in fear that the site would kick me out. But yes I plan to get it. I got it with 5. I'm getting it with the 6. You just never know.

I know AppleCare+ doesn't cover loss or theft. Just accidental damage + warranty type things. Not sure about SquareTrade.

AT&T's expensive plan ($9/mo + $199 deductible) does cover loss/theft, but it's a hefty priced plan.

I didn't have the option to buy AC+ at checkout of the apple store app so I will be buying it as soon as I can get the phone to my local apple store. Saves me the $12 a month I'm paying sprint for my note 2 insurance.

I'm gonna see how it goes and maybe pick it up before the first 60 days are up. I bought it for my iPhone 5, never used it until just this week. I'm having the sleep/wake button failure and rather than mail it in and have them fix it, they said since I have Applecare+, I qualified for ERS, where they ship me a new/refurb, then I have 10 days to ship mine in. I thought it was that they would fix and resend, but it's just a straight up trade out. Normally it costs an extra $30 for that, but it was covered. So, now i've got at least a newer 5 waiting at home so I can swap it out. The plan was to just send the 5 in after I got my 6 set up, but that would cut it really close to expire of AC+.

wonder if these claims would have any effect on the insurance company raising your rates...
I checked with my insurance company (Liberty Mutual) and they want $20/year for coverage up to $5,000 with a $50 deductible. Sounds like a no-brainer, but I'm still concerned about the rates question.

To anyone who's had such a policy and made a claim for their broken iPhone, what kind of rate increase if any did you see when you went to renew your policy?

After watching the drop tests today, I will definitely be getting AppleCare+. Does not look like the screen does well with any kind of drop and while I don't have my 6 Plus yet, it seems pretty well-documented from reviews that it can be a bit awkward to hold (especially for photography) and the case is somewhat slippery.

Can you purchase AppleCare+ over the phone or online after you already have the phone? Or do you have to take it into the store?

I think you can do it over the phone, but they need to send a "diagnostic check" to your phone.

I've had no rate increases. I used the service 3x (had some bad luck with my phone) this year and I believe at least once in the past two years. They usually just require a bill, but the last time I had to get it notarized. Still well worth it.
