I will never pre order a device that I haven't tried out. When it comes out I will try it in the store and then I might buy it. To be honest though, the average user will not notice a difference going from a iPhone 4/4s compared to the 5. The screen is bigger yes, but IOS is so smooth that the speed increase cannot be that noticeable.

That's not quite accurate. The speed is very noticeable. Let me find the video that was even better than Apple's.

LTE makes no difference where I live. The screen size is cool, but it's not enough for me to upgrade. I have never considered my 4S to be slow, and I am pretty happy with the way my jailbreak is set up. The camera update on the 5 is underwhelming (a great camera update would have been enough to get me to buy).

So I'm sticking with my 4S for now. I will definitely skip the 5 entirely. I'd like to take this time to check out windows mobile so I may buy an unlocked Lumina 920 when they come out just to play around with it. I already know that I don't like Android enough to make it my main platform, but it has it's pros and cons.

I have the iphone 4 and will upgrade to the iphone 5 on Oct 7th. There's a major difference from 3G to 4G LTE also the iphone 5 has the A6 chip which my iphone 4 does not have i'm sure if i added the ios 6 to once its out to the iphone 4 it will bog it down since i'm on an older chip. Theres differences in technology when comparing the iphone 5 to the previous versions.

Want an unlocked 64 Black for a backup mobile. I can wait. I could have did the early upgrade with AT&T but I'll save it for my Lumia 920. This will be my only iPhone for the next two years. I have no interest in the 5s.

I too am taking a pass. AT&T won't allow me to upgrade so I guess that will give me more time to evaluate alternatives to the iPhone over the next year as well as alternatives to AT&T.

Smart, very smart.

Apple continues to milk this three year old design. It might be updated, but it's still too similar. They took the easy road out, then hyped the heck out of it in self serving ways to con, oops I meant convince the public it's all new.

Stretching it out so they could claim a larger display, it's more of the same for the third year. You've got to hand it to Apple, they can sell anything.

Yet to those of us that are aware of the true state of the art technology available, we're taking a pass on this over used design.

I believe this may be the year that Apple wakes up & realizes they need to make the next iPhone better.

..... Apple blatantly screwing the customer.

I don't think you are aware of the "true state of the art technology available." Does anyone else have a phone this thin, with a screen with integrated touch and as sharp and with this much saturation, with this long a battery life and with anywhere near this build quality? How about a camera this nice? Nokia is closest but nobody has touched a real one yet.

Now you can make the argument that functionally, you can do most of what you can do with the 5 with a 4s. Not a 4 or 3GS, but a 4s. I understand that and probably wouldn't upgrade a 4s either. But my 4 is showing it's age and I have an upgrade.

This phone is totally redesigned. Yes, it has a similar look to the sides and buttons. But are you that shallow that you can't look at what is inside? Totally new screen technology (with integrated touch), new battery tech, totally redesigned internals, state of the art processor and graphics chip, a camera and lens that is unmatched by anything twice the size. A new connector that is small, reversible and capable. Three microphones and better speakers.

Yeah, same phone but "stretched" alright. lol

It looks pretty similar though. I'll give you that. It would be a total redesign if they curved the back and used cheap plastic though.... lolol

Because of my upgrade ability, or lack there of since I got my iPhone 4S on launch day (thanks AT&T).

I'm gonna hold out for the iPhone 5S. I'll just be an "S Guy"

I'm not eligible to upgrade until 12/4, so I have 3 months to read reviews and make my decision. Right now I am leaning towards not getting it. I hate the taller form factor. I would love LTE, but the coverage is still spotty where I live. I'm actually considering a switch to Samsung for the first time. I really want a bigger AND wider screen.

I'm still debating. I have a launch day 64GB 4S on AT&T that could probably still pass for brand new. No signs of wear because I keep it in my mophie juice pack plus, which is secure and made of hard rubber.

No, AT&T won't extend me an upgrade. They point to their strict agreement with Apple as the reason why. They won't even offer me any type of credit toward my bill. Called 3 different times and spoke to 3 different CSR's and each told me "Nothing we can do" in their own individual way. Not that I was expecting an early upgrade, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try. I'd have to pay the $449 price for 16GB.

Now I COULD sell my 4S and get $350 for it, and, at the end of the day, break even. But, in thinking about it, I'm not sure it's worth it, coming from a 4S. If I had the 4, there'd be no question, but, functionality-wise, I'm hard pressed to find much that a 5 can do, which a 4S cannot....provided I get on iOS 6.

I won't have the bigger screen or LTE, but, truth be told, AT&T doesn't yet offer LTE coverage where I live. So, even with an iPhone 5, I would only get the same HSPA+ "4G" speeds which I already achieve on my 4S (which is actually fast enough for me).

The differences in speed between the 2 devices MIGHT be noticeable IF I did a side-by-side comparison. But again, we're talking differences in mere seconds at best. I don't do anything on my 4S that even makes full use of the A5 processor at the moment.

Truth be told...I bought the original iPhone in early 2008, but passed on the 3G. I held onto my original for 1.5 years and then got the 3GS in June 2009. Then, even though I had an early upgrade available, I passed on the 4, back in 2010, due to not liking the design and antenna-gate. I updated my 3GS to iOS 4 (at the time) and was all good. I sat on upgrade eligibility for well over a year, and then got the 4S on launch day. The jump from 3GS to 4S was quite large, and I was happy that I'd waited.

So, again, I think I shall keep my 4S through the duration of my contract, and then see what Apple has in store next year (5S, anyone?). If I update to iOS 6 - still on the fence about that too - then all I'll be short is the A6, HD facetime, and 4" screen...oh yeah, and the whole "lightning" thing.

All three phones on my family plan are eligible but the thing holding back the others is the data charge they'll have to eat that they don't have now with their flip phones. Me, I think it will be best to sit tight and see what 'gates' may be in the early production units...

Went to sleep super excited to order and everything in the morning. Woke up, added to cart, but just couldn't complete the order. I'm even getting new customer pricing on the 64GB but here were my hesitations in order of concern:

1. Not sure if the lightning connector will place nice with my car, $500 Bose home stereo, alarm clock, and about 10 other 30-pin accessories. (if it does, I rather wait for 3rd party adapters because I need a boatload of them)

2. Absolutely cannot live without a jailbreak. My iPhone 4 sat in a box for 6 weeks before I even used it until the jailbreak came out.

3. Want to see how AT&T LTE holds up in NYC after a month of everyone on the iPhone.

4. The fact that every detail of the phone leaked ahead of time, for some reason the excitement of getting it right away died down since Wednesday.

5. My 4S is unlocked and I travel for work a lot which makes swapping sims cake, won't get an unlock for another 2 years with the 5.

really with music searches or changing playlist the 4S can get glicky..

It's not something I've noticed to be honest - I have absolutely no complaints about the performance of my 4S. I don't play games on it though - if I did, I'd maybe think again because there are bound to be plenty of games coming out soon that make use of the extra power available in the 5

Keeping my 64GB 4S.

A family member is getting the 5, so I can't wait to try that out. I want to find out if the drastic change in weight (140g->112g) will make it feel cheap like an android.

Plus I cannot stand the stock iOS and waiting for a JB will be >3 months

So? He is well within his right to cancel if he has second thoughts.

Not sure why anyone who preorders should care about how it affects those who also wish to preorder.

You're right. Wasting time and such is so stupid.
