I never thought I'd buy white...
For years black has been my default color for nearly everything from shoes to suits and especially for Apple products.
The Apple website has made the white ones look so good I decided to break convention and try the white. I've been pleasantly surprised.
My main reason for upgrading was for the retina screen to be able to use the iPad more for reading text.
Although I still really like the sleekness of the black one, for me, the white bezel functions better for reading...it just seems to disappear and makes the screen seem to open up more....more immersive for reading and less eye strain from less contrast.
After a weekend with the white bezel, the black one makes the screen seem smaller for a lot of tasks. To me the white bezel brightens and lightens everything up whereas the black one seems to be like gravity and suck me in.
I thought white would bother me during games and video but I was surprised that the contrast in those situations has been very easy on my eyes.
Overall, I'm enjoying working on a white iPad better than I liked the black one even though I firmly agree the black one looks really sharp and is awesome during a lot of games that use dark colors and also movies.
I guess in this case for me pretty is as pretty does.
It's a completely subjective and personal preference choice and in this case they are both great!! I'd say go with the one that bothers you the least for what you do most with your iPad.
