Hey! Just wondering who is still going strong with their Core Duo MacBook Pro and has no intention of upgrading. Also, is Snow Leopard definitely running on the Core Duo even though it's not 64 bit?

Thanks (from a fellow Core Duo owner) :)

I've got a CoreDuo BlackBook, for whatever that's worth. Hasn't let me down yet... though the fans seem to come on more now than they used to.

Nonetheless, I'll be upgrading to the 13" Pro.

April 2006 17" MBP :)

Still works fine and I think I'm skipping this year. Will wait for the next round of updates and a high res screen in the 15"

Applecare just called me. They've replaced the top case, bottom case, screen, screen bezel, keyboard, both fans and the logic board. WTF else is left?

I'm rocking a two-year-old C2D, which I think directly followed that model. B-Apple-sturds upped the models five weeks after I bought mine. Luckily there was nothing major. Had it been like this week where the prices sunk by $300 and I could've gotten a $1200 Pro model, I may have gone crazy. This thing sits in clamshell 99% of the time, so I really don't need a huge screen.

Still, I'm pretty happy with this thing. Runs way better than any PC I ever had, have had very limited (and minor) problems, my iPhone syncs with so many things. Just hoo-ah.

I just got rid of my Core Duo MacBook Pro. Compared with the 13" MBP, that thing burnt my legs to a crisp. Apparently there were heat issues with the first revision. Otherwise, the thing ran like a champ.

Still rockin the original 15" MBP. Has a couple of dents in it from going through the last couple months of hs and 3 years of college. It has burnt up a gig stick of ram and gone through 2 batteries since then though.

Do you think you will be interested in upgrading when Apple releases the PowerBook G5? ;)

Apple already released the PowerBook G5; only issue is if you try to turn it on, it will go up into a puff of smoke and disappear.

Rocking a Core Duo Mac Mini!

I'll wait until I see more impressive CPU gains, although the GPU gain over my GMA950 is worth upgrading...maybe before Snow Leopard.

My April 2006 2ghz CD 15" MBP is still rockin' with the original battery. I'm in no hurry - I'll upgrade when the 13" revision 2 Nehalem rolls around.

I still have the first generation MacBook Pro released in january 2006 :)

It runs Snow Leopard really well but is going in for repairs soonish.

  • VRAM is failing, occasionally resulting in strange red dots and artifacts.
  • SuperDrive not so super anymore, doesn't want to burn DVDs.
  • Screen inverter is making high pitched noises when changing brightness.
  • Electric-tingle if you touch other metal while the poor thing is charging.
  • Battery has lost 50% capacity after only 150 cycles (and were replaced last year).

Luckily for me I still have AppleCare a few months more :D

Basically, I doubt they have the spare parts to repair this ol' MacBook Pro.

Oh yeah, nearly forgot, it is the 2.16Ghz Core Duo model. I am seeing only 2GB as a major limiting factor these days.

I'm still running an original 1.83 Core Duo MBP.

It's third battery is on the way out, it had it's fans replaced last year and the complete screen & top case replaced earlier this year.

The AppleCare runs out at the end of August so I'll still be using it for at least the next two months. :D

Just sold mine. It was still rockin but wanted to sell while I could still get good $ for it. I think Snow Leopard + recent cuts in MBP prices is going to kill the value of CD MB and MBPs. The only thing that hurts is no more matte screen. I really hate how Apple is consistently dumbing down the MBP into a true consumer notebook.
